Alpha Ace’s POV
“Ace, I need you to find someone for me discreetly. My beta Mark will meet you at the entrance of the Red Moon pack with all the information.” I hear my half-brother's mind link me. Hmm, he must be desperate if he is asking me. He never talks to me unless he needs someone taken care of or needs them to disappear. Alright, tell him I’ll be there in 10 minutes, and I cut the mind link. He is lucky that I had a job before this, and I was only down the road.
10 minutes later.
I see Mark standing half a mile from the pack entrance. I stop my car for him to get in. He gets straight to business. He knows my rules. “Alpha Ace, Alpha Blake needs you to find Claudette Odette. He does not want anyone to know that he is looking for her or that she has runoff. She was last seen at the Event dining hall in the middle of the pack territory.
Here is her picture and a shirt from her room. She couldn’t have gone far since she was in heels and an evening dress. Do not approach her. Just watch her and let Alpha Blake know where she is and if she is with someone. If she is with someone, get rid of them but do not hurt her.”
Now, this has me intrigued. I’ve never been hired to find someone that is not a threat to my brother or the pack before. What is he up to? Alright, get out. I’ll let him know when it’s done. I stare at the picture, memorizing every detail, from her beautiful dark brown eyes to her sun-kissed tan. The scent from her shirt is intoxicating. It is invading my senses like nothing I have ever felt before. I take one last deep breath in before getting out of the car to start my search.
It is like the universe is guiding me. Even though I have never been to this territory before, I quickly find the building where the dinner was held. It looks like the cleaning crew is here. I take in a deep breath to see if I can catch her smell but nothing. Even though Mark has already checked some of these places, I like to do it myself because I never trust that people will catch something as I would.
On my search from where the dinner was held to her house, I see a small opening in the woods. I can feel the hair on the back of my neck stand up. As I enter the woods, my wolf and I are now on high alert. I would shift, but I do not want to alert anyone, especially since Blake wants me to be discreet.
The further I walk, the more I start to hear running water, maybe a creek or river. A light breeze brushes by when I finally smell her sweet scent. I know I’m close now. I take in another deep breath to see if I can sense another person with her. The only scent I’m picking up here is hers. I walk a little further and come to an opening next to a river. I stay in the shadows as I scan the area to locate her.
When my eyes finally land on her, I can't help but stare. Her dark hair is loosely pulled back, with a few curls falling in her face. She is even more beautiful than her picture. She is on top of a bolder against a tree as if it were a chair. She looks so peaceful sitting there like she doesn’t have a care in the world. What does Blake want with her?
The thought of something happening to her makes my blood start to boil. What is going on with me? I shake my head to get the ideas out of my mind. This is a job I need to remember why I am here. I inch closer to her but make sure not to make a sound or let her see me.
I stay there for at least 45 minutes, waiting to see if she is meeting anyone. While I was waiting, she never moved or called anyone. It makes me wonder what would have caused her to come out here at night by herself. Does she not know how dangerous it is? I guess I should mind link Blake. I bet he is going crazy by now. He has no patience. I scoff to myself, and my wolf growls at me in my mind. We both put up with him only because he is our half-brother, but that only goes so far.
Blake, I found her! She is by herself. I tell him through the mind link. WHERE IS SHE AT? He stupidly yells back through our link. I growl back. I’m watching her now. If anything changes, I will handle it. I shut the mind link immediately after. I do not care what he has to say, and he would not dare try to hunt me down.
He may be known as a dangerous Alpha, but we both know who the dangerous one really is. I could have told him where she was, but for some reason, when he snapped back through our mind link, he made my wolf mad. I never allow him to get under my skin, and I have worked hard to get my wolf to be the same. But now my wolf is pi**** off. He is pacing back in forth in my head. I can’t make sense of this. My wolf is no help as he just shuts me out.
I look at my watch. It is starting to get late. I do not want to stay out here all night. There is no way she is meeting anyone. However, I do not want to scare her by going up to her, but I do not want to leave her by herself either. I guess I will just have to wait it out. I find a good place off to the side a little ways. From here, I can watch her and keep her safe in case something happens.
“Mhmm”…..It sounds like she is starting to wake up. “s**t!!!” I hear her yell at herself. She looks frantic as she is trying to get her bearings of her surroundings. I guess she just realized she slept outside, I laugh to myself. I watch in awe as she jumps from the top of the bolder in a long dark red dress and lands perfectly on her feet. In a split second, she is gone. HUH? Who is this girl?
