Sara stood up from the bed with much difficulty. Her leg was in pain but she didn't let that deter her. She got down from the bed and limped towards the door. She listened for any sounds coming from outside, but there were none. She opened the door slowly and walked into the hallway. The hallway was large and quiet, there was no one in sight. Sara slowly began to make her way down the hallway. She limped, and with each step she took, she felt a sharp sting of pain go through her, but she didn't stop. She needed to leave this place. Sara walked on for close to ten minutes and still didn't meet anyone. She was beginning to tire out, and she still had not found the exit. She was beginning to think she was lost.
'How big is this place exactly?', she wondered in her head as she limped along the hallway.
'Is this a home or a palace?', she wondered.
Meanwhile, Killian and Kaile were in the throne room discussing.
"Are you sure it's her?" Kaile asked his brother, who sat on one of the steps.
"I'm sure." Killian nodded.
"I was tracking the rogues who had attacked the village the last time I caught her scent. It's definitely her; she's our mate. Don't you feel the connection, too?" Killian asked back.
"I do feel the connection", Kaile nodded.
"But she said she has had five previous mates before; why would someone have five mates?" Kaile asked.
"I don't know", Killian shook his head.
He also found this particular piece of information about her peculiar, but she had been tight-lipped about it and had refused to say anything when he asked her.
"Regardless, it's best we wait for her to heal before we revisit the topic again. You saw how she took it earlier", Kaile told his brother with a hint of warning in his tone.
Killian lifted his gaze up to look at his brother slowly.
"The kingdom is unstable with father's death. The rogue attacks have been more frequent; we do not have time to wait around, brother", Killian said in a cold tone.
"So what? Do we rush her? Do we force her? Put yourself in her shoes. If you were the one who found out that you were mated to twins, how would you react?" Kaile asked his brother.
Killian didn't reply and remained silent.
Sara took what seemed to be her tenth turn and yet she still had not found the exit. She was getting really tired by now. Just as she was wondering where everyone in this huge house must have gone, she came face to face with a young woman in what looked like a servant's uniform. Sara froze in place.
"My lady!", the woman exclaimed and rushed to her side.
"What are you doing out of bed? Come, come you must rest", the woman said as she took Sara's arm.
"No, I don't want to rest. I want to leave", Sara said as she shook the young woman's hand off.
"Leave? My lady. You can't. You have to stay here and rest, come let me take you back to your room", the woman offered and began to lead Sara back to her room.
Sara tried to struggle out of her grasp, but her grip was gentle yet firm, and Sara could do nothing but be led back to her room.
The Throne Room
"My alphas", a guard greeted as he walked into the throne room.
Both Killian and Kaile turned to look at him.
"Yes, what is it?", Kaile asked him.
"It's the woman, my alpha. She was found outside of her bedroom", the guard informed them.
"What?" Kaile asked, surprised.
Killian raised his eyebrows.
"Where is she now?", he asked.
"Back in her room, my alpha, but I believe she was trying to escape", the guard told them.
Kaile blinked while Killian smirked.
"I think we best go see our mate and explain some things to her,” Killian said as he stood up and began to walk out of the throne room, not caring to wait for Kaile's response.
Sara's room
The young woman helped Sara lay down on the bed. And although Sara was disappointed that she had not been able to escape, she was grateful to be back in bed again. Her legs hurt from walking for that long.
"Just rest my lady. Is there anything you want?", the young woman asked her with a smile.
"I want to go home", Sara answered.
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that. It's best to wait for the alphas, they will be here soon", the woman told her.
"The alphas?", Sara repeated, confused.
"Wait, you mean..." just at that moment, the door to her room opened, and Killian walked in.
He looked at her lying on the bed and Sara immediately avoided his gaze. He walked towards the bed like a tiger on a prowl. As Killian approached the bed, the young woman bowed and stepped aside.
"I heard you were out in the hallway", Killian said calmly but his aura was incredibly dark.
"Yes, I want to go home", Sara answered, trying not to show how intimidated she was by Killian's aura.
Kaile rushed in and met Killian and Sara in what seemed to be a staring contest.
"Are you alright?", he asked Sara, breaking the tension that was building up in the room.
"I'm fine. But I want to go home, why are you keeping me here?!", Sara demanded.
"But your home is here", Killian answered.
Sara blinked.
"No, it's not", she answered.
"Yes, it is. As future Luna of the Mooncrest pack, your home is here, where your people are", Killian said with a smirk.
Kaile looked at Killian sharply.
Sara's gaze shifted between them.
"Future Luna?" she asked, blinking, confused.
None of them said anything. Killian had a smirk on his face while Kaile looked at her with an apologetic smile.
"If I'm the future luna and I'm mated to the both of you, that means, the both of you are.....?"
"Alphas", Kaile answered.
"We are the alphas of the Mooncrest pack", Kaile told her.
It all suddenly seemed to click in Sara's head. This huge place was most definitely their palace. The young woman dressed like a servant, and talked about being the future Luna. But there was no way.
"No, there's no way. There's no way I'm your mate. You must be mistaken", Sara protested.
"How are you so sure?", Killian asked with a smirk.
Sara bit her lips.
"I just am. There's no way I could be your mate or the future Luna", Sara told them.
There was a short silence until Killian finally spoke.
"Seems like you won't believe us no matter what we say and we do not have time to spare. There is an easy way to know if you are our fated mate", Killian said in an imposing and firm voice.
"Send for the moon priestess,” Killian told the young woman, who bowed and left to carry out his orders.
"The moon priestess?", Kaile asked.
"Yes, the moon priestess is known to communicate the wishes of the moon goddess, so she will know if Sara is really our fated mate or not", Killian said.
Sara knew he was right. At this point, only the moon goddess could know for sure. The three of them waited in silence, each in their own thoughts.
Sara's mind was a mess. She hoped in the back of her mind that the moon goddess would not be so cruel to her to give her another mate to reject her just after a rejection but she couldn't stop the dread she was feeling.
The doors to Sara's room opened, and the young woman from earlier walked in, followed by another woman dressed in all black; her face was covered with a black veil, and her head was bowed. As she stepped into the room, she immediately whipped her head up and stared straight at Sara, eyes wide.
"You!”
