Chapter 3

Sara watched as the stranger who had saved her walked into the room. It was him; he was the silver-streaked wolf, and she was sure of it. She had been a bit out of it when he changed back to his human form but she could recognize him. The aura was just the same, it was unmistakable. The man stopped and stared at her, their eyes met, and Sara was even more sure now that he was the one; that intense stare was unmistakable. "She's awake", he said as he began to walk towards the bed. "Yes", Kaile nodded and turned to Sara. "This is my brother, Killian. He was the one who saved you, do you remember?", Kaile asked her. Sara nodded because she was at a loss for words but that piece of information did make sense to her. As they stood side by side, Sara could now clearly see the similarities between them. She could see the differences too, where Kaile had long wavy hair, Killian's hair was short and cut into a crew cut and it was a darker shade of Hercules gold. Where Kaile had bushy eyebrows, Killian had Hades black eyebrows that gave him a cool look. He also had a pair of Saturn-shaped eyes that were cold and dark. He also had arched cheekbones and a lantern jaw that was square and firm. His Atlas shoulders were broad and gave him an imposing look. Where Kaile had a childish and mirthful aura around him, Killian's aura was cold and dark. The two brothers were both very good-looking, but Killian seemed to be more good-looking. "Are you feeling better now?", Killian asked, drawing Sara from her thoughts. She nodded. "Yes", Sara managed to say softly. "Thank you for saving me." Sara thanked him after a few minutes. He only nodded in response. "Rest up", Killian said. "Actually, I feel a lot better, and I can return anytime soon,” Sara said as she struggled to sit up. Kaile immediately rushed to help her. "Return?", Killian asked as his eyes squinted. "Yes", Sara nodded, confused by the sudden change in atmosphere. "To my home", she added. There was a short silence as the brothers glanced at each other before looking at Sara. "Um, miss...", it was Kaile that first spoke. "Sara", Sara completed for him. "My name is Sara", she added a bit embarrassed this time that she had not introduced herself ever since. "Sara", Kaile repeated her name and smiled. Sara felt she could melt from the way Kaile had said her name and his smile. "Sara, you can't leave", it was Killian who spoke this time. Sara looked at him confused. "I don't understand", she said, her gaze moving between the brothers. Kaile seemed to warn his brother with his eyes before he turned to Sara. He looked at her with gentle eyes. "What do you mean I can't leave?" Sara asked, this time in a demanding tone and more desperate. "Sara, you can't leave because..." Kaile began to speak. He glanced at his brother who looked on with an empty gaze. ".... You are our mate", he said finally. Sara blinked as she tried to process what Kaile had just said. She was about to say something when she remembered something the previous evening that she had forgotten. She remembered that before she passed out, Killian had called her, 'mate'. Sara's eyes went wide. Was it true? Was she his mate? But, wait, Kaile had said, ‘Our mate.’ He couldn't mean? "I... I don't understand", Sara stuttered. There was a short silence that was broken because of Killian's groan. Kaile side-eyed him and smiled gently at Sara. "Well, for starters, a mate is a fated partner..." Kaile began to explain. "No..... No", Sara interrupted him. "I know what a mate is, I've had five. What I don't understand is how I could be your mate", Sara told him. Killian's otherwise empty and uninterested eyes seemed to sparkle with interest as he looked at her. "You have a mate?", he asked her sharply. "No. Not right now, I do not", Sara answered. "But you've had five fated mates", Killian said. "Why? What happened?" he asked in a firm tone, but Sara wasn't swayed. Was she to just tell these strangers about things like that, so she kept her mouth shut. "Regardless, you are mateless right now, so it is not incomprehensible that you are our mate,” Kaile said. Sara looked at him. He had said 'our' again. Could he really mean? "You keep saying 'our mate'. By 'our' do you mean?", Sara asked him cautiously. "Yes", Kaile nodded. "Don't you feel the bond between us?", Kaile asked her. If Sara was to be truthful, she did feel drawn to the brothers, but it was impossible to be mated to brothers, right? "But that's impossible", Sara protested. "It's not really. It does happen for brothers, twin brothers to have one mate", Kaile said. "Twins?!", Sara screamed. Her gaze moved between them. The both of them gave off completely different auras that it was hard to believe they were twins but the resemblance as brothers was definitely there. "Yes, we are twins", Kaile nodded. Sara didn't say anything. She just stared at every other place in the room trying her best not to meet Killian's eyes. Ever since the topic of her previous mates came up she had refused to answer. He had been staring at her intensely and piercingly. The silence in the room began to stretch on until Kaile finally spoke. "I think we should leave you to rest up. And also time to process what we just told you", Kaile suggested. Killian didn't say anything and just turned around and left. Sara watched him leave before looking at Kaile who smiled warmly at her before turning around to leave as well. Sara was left alone in the room with her thoughts and she did think. She thought deeply about what the brothers had just told her, was she really their mate? But she had just been rejected by Ken two days ago. Was it really possible to get a mate this soon after being rejected by a previous mate? And to twin brothers for that matter. She remembered what happened to her previous mates; would these brothers also reject her when they realized her past? Was this moon goddess trying to play a cruel joke on her? These questions and more were what we were going through Sara's mind as she lay down on the bed. She couldn't find the answer to them but she knew what she had to do. She needed to leave.
