Chapter five

1742 Words
Samantha's POV  It's James' wedding and I am so happy he is finally got married to the love of his life. It's a bittersweet moment as I am extremely happy for him but also can't help but reflect on my broken marriage. I make my way to the reception area looking at the seating arrangements looking for my table. I notice that I'm sitting next to Rebecca, I make my way to my table. At least there is a familiar friendly face at my table I hate being here alone. The constant whispers and glares I've received ever since the ceremony are starting to get to me. I thought I will be ok. I thought I will be able to hold my head high and ignore the gossiping. But there is only so much one can take.  When I arrive at my table I look for my seat, Samantha Johnson my seating card says written in gold letters. I sit down, Rebecca is nowhere to be found. That's just great! Now I have to sit here all alone. I greet the other guest seated at my table with a shy smile. They stare at me with pitiful eyes before greeting me with fake smiles. I take a sip of water looking around for Rebecca. I notice the guest seated at other tables staring at me whispering. I swear these people have nothing better to do than gossiping and making others feel bad. I cannot breathe, I need to leave this place. Everyone is looking at me whispering I cannot breathe. I get up from my seat and make my way to the restroom. I thought I will be ok, that facing the Smith family even facing Jason would be ok. But I'm not, I need to be alone right now. I make my way inside the mansion, it would be better if I leave rather than go to the washroom. The urge to have a drink was strong and I need to leave before I do something I'm not supposed to. I have been sober for 6 months and will not give up now. I don't want James to feel sad on the happiest day of his life by involving him in my drama.  As I walk to the front of the mansion I notice Amanda walking towards me making her way to the reception area. I try to avoid her by quickly running into one of the rooms close by but it's too late. "Samantha darling," Amanda waves at me to get my attention. Why the f**k does this woman want to talk to me? Does she want to gloat? Rub salt into my wounds? I take a deep breath and turn around putting on a fake smile. There is something different about her, she has a certain glow.  I widen my eyes as she gets closer, this cannot be happening. I blink a few times to ensure I'm not daydreaming. "Yes my dear, you are not imagining it." She rubs her stomach pushing it out so it can be more visible, "I'm pregnant!" She says in a squealing high-pitched voice not hiding her excitement. She looks about 23 weeks pregnant, wearing a dusty pink sheer lace and satin maternity dress.  Her words leave me speechless, I honestly don't know how to respond. Finally recovering from my shock I try to leave, this is too much for me. The waiter approaching us has a tray of champagne with him. I try to ignore my craving, I close my eyes as the waiter passes us by heading towards the reception area. My craving to have a drink is becoming more intense. I need to leave, I look at her with a blank expression and try to leave. She grabs me by my arm stopping me from going any further, "aren't you going to congratulate me?" She looks at me with a smug look on her face, I see what she is trying to do. She wants to provoke me and make it seem like I'm the jealous ex-wife who cannot move on. Before I could say anything Rebecca is by my side, "congratulation Amanda on your promotion from side-w***e to pregnant w***e. I'm so happy for you" Rebecca gives her a fake smile and claps her hands sarcastically. This woman has no filter I laugh at her comment but quickly become serious again. Rebecca my angel saved me from embarrassing myself. Amanda looks at her and rolls her eyes, she loosens her grip on my arm. Amanda and Rebecca stare at each other angrily.  Back at HSM Rebecca and Amanda were my only friends at the hospital even though they never saw eye to eye. They were always arguing and I could never understand why Becca never liked Amanda. Both of them were sweet and kind towards me I guess Becca saw right through her fake appearance.  "Hello, Rebecca nice seeing you here, anyway why don't you go back to the party. This is none of your business." Before Rebecca could respond I pull her away, "Becca let's go, she's not worth our time." Rebecca glares at her angrily and leaves. When we reach outside, I walk towards the fountain in front of the mansion. I take a deep breath and ask the valet standing close by to bring my car. Rebecca rubs my back consoling me.  "Are you ok?"  "I'm fine Becca I need to leave right now that's all." I give her a shy smile to reassure her.  We wait for a few minutes before my car arrived.  "Samantha what the f**k is wrong with you," I look around and see a fuming Jason walking towards me.  "Can't you leave us alone? We are f*****g divorced, I know I cheated on you with Amanda but that does not give you the right to mistreat my pregnant fiancée! Mandy is inside crying because of you, I demand you apologize to her!"  His words confuse me. He must be joking right? Isn't she the one who tried to provoke me? I must say this conniving woman is a good actress. So provoking me did not work now she's pretending I'm the bad witch who made her cry. Unbelievable! She knows that there were several people who witnessed our interaction.  I laugh at him sarcastically "you joking right?" The valet gives me my car keys, great timing! I give him a smile and take my keys. As I'm about to get inside my car, he grabs me by my hair. "I will not ask you again YOU WILL APOLOGIZE TO HER!" He forcefully drags me towards the mansion. I trip over my heels falling on my knees but he continues to drag me by my hair. Rebecca is shouting and screaming at him to leave me alone. I scream out in pain, I felt a burning sensation in my scalp and on my knees. Jason did not care, he was determined.  "Leave me alone Jason" I scream out in pain begging him to leave me.  "No! You will apologize to Mandy!" I honestly never knew Jason could be this cruel. It saddens me that this is what has become of us. I was hoping we could still be civil with each other.  I feel a strong arm pulling me from Jason's grip, pulling me behind him in a protective manner.  Bam!  Jason falls to the ground, He cries out in pain holding his bloody nose. Everything happened so fast one moment I'm being dragged by Jason next he's on the floor with a bloody nose.  The man stands in front of me in a protective stance. "You touch her again I swear I will break more than just your nose," he warns Jason in a deep dark voice. The man is furious at Jason for manhandling me.  "What the f**k Webber, why would you take her side. You don't even know what she did."  "Whatever she did, does not give you the right to hurt her like that. I'm sure your mother raised you well and treat women with respect. Besides, I saw the whole interaction between your precious Amanda and Sam. She did not do anything to upset your precious Mandy if anyone deserves the blame it's Amanda."  "Still it's none of your business, why are you so protective of Sam, are you together?" Jason gets up from the ground dusting off the dirt from his clothes.  "Well, that is none of your business Jason." Jason laughs hysterically.  "I see Sam after I divorced you, you seduced another billionaire? Or were you together while we were still married? I was right about you, you just a gold-digging whore."  Bam! Bam! Bam!  Dylan lost it and punched Jason again.  "How dare you say that Jason" Bam! "You never deserved Samantha!"  Bam! "She's too good for you!"  Dylan is outraged by his word, it was the last straw. He continues to beat up Jason, this is too much to handle.  I scream at Dylan to stop, but he does not. He is determined to beat up Jason. I finally walk up to him grabbing him by his shoulders. "Please stop," I beg, in a soft voice. He stops and looks at me with pain in his eyes, he wipes away my tears with his thumb and kisses me on the forehead.  The evening breeze was cool and caused goosebumps on my skin. Dylan noticed I'm feeling chilly and  takes off his suit jacket. He drapes it around my shoulders, I can still feel his heat.       He takes my car keys from my grip and makes his way to the car. I'm standing frozen in place unable to move. Rebecca runs up to me and holds me in her embrace. I release the flood gates and sobbing in her arms. She looks up at Dylan angrily, he gives her an apologetic smile.  "I will take good care of her don't worry Rebecca, please trust me. I will drive her home." Rebecca sends him my apartment address via mobile and hugs me one last time. The drive to the apartment was quiet. I can see his knuckles turning white as he grabs onto the steering wheel trying to control his anger. We arrive at my apartment building and Dylan walks me up to my apartment. What an eventful day this has been. I look at his bloody hand and invite him in so I treat him.
