Chapter Two: The much anticipated choice > >> I was really prepared to tell Ona about everything. I had to let her know that the reason that she had been having all these pimples on her wrist was because of her sisters and nothing that she had been doing wrong. I really could not believe that they could continue to be as evil as they were being right now. Anna and Beth had always had a fun thing about them. What brings them together is the fact that they can be evil together and apart from that I really have no idea what makes them closer than that. Because while they were still in high school, they were definitely not the best of friends. But once they had me to pick on full time, that is when friendship strengthened and I definitely see how that could work. Hailey as well fell into that trap. Hailey and Ona were closer until she started to realize that she is misleading me as well and that is when Ona said that she was not going to continue to be best friends with her anymore. In one way or another. I still felt very guilty because it was like I was being the cause of a divide between sisters. But every single time that I brought that up to Ona, she always tells me that I'm her sister as well and I have to remember that. It definitely did not make me feel better every single time, but it was the truth and I really don't want to lose Ona. I rushed to her room and I am more than shocked to walk in to find her with another woman behind her, a new dress on her body. As the dress is continuously being zipped up. Tears are on Ona's face and I can just see that she definitely does not want to be doing this right now. What happened? Was this forced on her? It was stupid of me to even dare to question that. Of course she has been forced into this. “ What is going on here?” I asked her and she just takes in a deep breath before pulling away from the other lady behind her. “All right then, I know my mother instructed you to be here, but get out. My lady in waiting is here and she's the only one that I will allow to do this to me”. She says to her and I can't just see the hesitation on the face of the woman that was currently fixing up her dress. “I really cannot do that, my princess. If I defy the Queen, things will not be good for me. You know I'm also going to get in trouble. Please, I cannot leave your side at all. I she told me not to”. She says to her and Ona just shakes her head. “Get out! And that is an that is an order from the Princess and if you are not going to listen to me then that it means that you're going to get in trouble as well. Do you not know that you are not allowed to defy my orders?” She asks, clearly very angry. “Ona. Just let her stay, trust me”. I say to her and she just looks at me in utter disbelief. What happened to her reading her books? What happened to her just not going there. I mean, I felt it coming. I mean, I feel like I was being really gullible in the first place to even think that she will be able to get away with having a day of just reading her books in peace. This would have never been allowed. Of course, Queen Kate would have never allowed anything like that to happen at all. Not to let her daughter embarrass her in public. Yes, it definitely was going to be clear that the reason she was not coming was because she did not want to and the Queen could not make her. And of course she would never let that happen. “Just go to the bathroom and leave us alone. OK? That's the best I can offer you”. I say to the woman and I could just see the look on her face changing. The pitiful look that was begging from where I see is no more. Instead what I see is a hateful face. She was one second away from rolling her eyes before she nodded her head and walked to Ona's bathroom. “Ona, what happened?” I asked her and she just sighs before sitting on her bed, the large and poofy skirt of the dress laying around her. “ She forced me. She got another gun for me and she forced me to do this. Actually, she said she suspected I might do something, so she had two guns made, just one in a different colour. Now I'm wearing a purple disaster”. She says. “ I hate purple!” Ona adds with immense rage in her voice. Her fingernails clasp at the skirt of the dress, like she is wishing to rip it apart like the other one. with sadness deep within me, I sigh, unsure of what to say for a few seconds. “I know you hate purple, I really know that you hate purple, and I cannot imagine how you must be right now. What are you going to do? Are you going to just accept it? You might as well.” I ask her and she just shirks. “ I told you, I really don't know what I'm going to do, OK? I'm just tired of this. She has no heart, that evil woman that gave birth to us!” , I really wish I could help her in one way or another but there was nothing I could do. “You know what? I'm going to go out there and I'm going to make her wish that she just let me stay in instead. She's going to wish she did, yes indeed” , Ona starts and I really have no idea what it is that she has a mind, but I have a good idea of what it could be. Knowing her, she's probably going to do something really embarrassing. Something that would just tell the king that this is the last daughter you would want as your new daughter-in-law. And she was really good at it because unlike all the other sisters that we had, she was willing to be embarrassed if it meant that she would be getting her way. She did not mind what was at stake and she would make it happen every single time she wanted to. “No, Ona, please, just…this is a good opportunity for you. I do not want you to miss out just because you did not want to leave me here. I'll be fine”. I say to her and she widens her eyes. “No you will not! And besides, what makes you think is not about you?” She questions, crossing her arms over her chest. “ And it's not all about you. I do not want to be married off to some boy that I've never met.” She says to me and I say “that is not true. You have met him before, remember?” I ask her and she rolls her eyes. “Yes, I did meet him and yes I know what I told you the day that I met him, right? It does not matter, there was just a once a feeling. I'm a different girl now. I just want to be in my room reading my novels. Is that too much to ask for?” She asks and I just shake my head at her. “No, it is not. But you know there's no winning this. And if you become the Princess there it might be that bad”. I say to her trying to comfort her. But that is all for nothing. The door quickly opens and in walks Queen Kate with a smirk on her face. “There she is, fully dressed for the occasion.” Her loud laughter fills the room. “Rip this one apart and see what happens”. She threatens and Ona just huffs in frustration with dark eyes. “I know you're very good at making threats blah blah blah whatever”. She says before standing up. “Do not dare talk to me like that! Such a disrespectful child!” Queen Kate threw her long hair over her shoulder, crossing her arms. She was standing by the door like she was going to ensure that nothing happens, to ensure that Ona and I go nowhere, and that Ona does make it to the ceremony. “Just go!” Ona says in a soft voice even though I know her true desires are to yell loudly and throw things around. “I see you have your lady in waiting with you. Do not let her be a bad influence. You have to leave this place eventually, she is not your responsibility.” Those words stab my heart as they leave her mouth. How I hate how she still manages to get to me. Not once did she look me in the eye while saying that to Ona. In fact, not once did she even look at me since she had been standing there. Ona was not always like this with our mother. The relationship that they have got ruined after she asked my mother to show more mercy and present me as her daughter before the entire Kingdom. After our mother refused and punished Ona for making such an “outrageous request” in her own opinion, she decided that she was going to be like I am with her, feeling like she is not her mother at all. But it really did not matter to Kate all that much. She was pretty good at doing everything that a person with a conscience would have a hard time doing. She had no conscience, she could do absolutely anything at all whenever she wanted, and even if it hurt somebody else, she really did not care. As I held hands with Ona and escorted her out to the throne room, my heart was already sinking. After begging Queen Kate to let me stay by her side. she finally agreed and I was there with Ona. The atmosphere was very tense, at least for me. It just felt like everybody was afraid in this room and even if they were not showing it, there was that energy flowing in this room. An entire month had been literally spent preparing for this. It was big. If one of the princesses is to be married off into that Kingdom, it meant a huge thing for the two packs. The packs had always been allies, even during wars, had always saw eye to eye, and our pack was the second most powerful. Combined with the Agoa Forest pack, it was a very formidable pack. And if the unity of the Prince and the Princess happened, it would just be solidifying the relationship even more. That is precisely why everybody was so excited for this day. And of course, people had placed their bets. Everyone was excited to see which Princess the king would fancy the most. Some believed would be Haiti because of her striking beauty. Because she made the perfect trophy. They were not mates and therefore whoever got married this on this day would just serve as a perfect trophy. Because there was one thing that every wolf knew. Without a mate, any wolf is absolutely weak. You cannot harness your full powers if you do not have your mate by your side, and the more time goes bad that you are without your mate, the more useless you become and eventually lose your wolf and lose your sharp senses. No wolf was going to stick to that, so whoever would be chosen on this day would have to live with the burden of knowing that the Prince would eventually come for his mate once he found her. MThe whole reason this was happening was because the Prince had not found the mate, and once that happened, it definitely was going to be time to call it quits or time to take the back seat. For that reason, I really do not want Ona to be chosen, but it just sounded like something that would be a good opportunity for her. She probably would be much better in a place that is not her home because she was always in bad terms with her parents, with the Queen and the King and it was always frustrating to her. “Let me officially welcome you to the palace, King David Hunter of the Agoa Forest Pack. You are highly welcome, as always in a palace.” The amount of effort going in to his voice, the amount of effort going into King Owen Reed's voice to make it clear that he absolutely respects the other king is absolutely astounding. It was always like this. Whenever the king came around, it was very weird and that it happened, but every single time that he did, a fuss was always made. “Right. Now, You know what reason I'm here for? What are the options?” The king was precisely straight to the point and my heart was just pounding her against my chest as I watched Ona walking towards her sisters as her mother definitely instructed. It was really happening right now. The king was going to make his decision. Whoever that was going to be chosen today, would be getting married the very next day. It was daunting, definitely.
