Chapter Three: Evil prevails. > >> Music was filling the room as I stood pinned to a wall, furthest from the other palace workers that were deemed precious enough to be in the room. King David had a scowl on his face, like the sight of everything disgusted him. Quite the difficult man to pleas he was. That was probably why everyone looked so intimidated, even I was shaken. After all the effort everyone went though, it just looked like everything repulsed him. "Princess, arrange yourselves in no particular order. We do not want any of your traits to earn you points. Everything will be decided based on how you perform today!" Marcella, the head of staff said the instructions out loud and as though Anna was timing her words, predicting what would follow, she dashed to be in front of everyone else, knocking Hailey down on her way there. Gasps filled the room as a thud echoed through the large room. The throne room was one of the biggest rooms in the palace, and seeing as only a few peuple were here, it made it even worse. "My lovely sister! What did I do?" Anna came rushing back and kneeled down. "Did I injure you? You were already limping, weren't you?" Hailey just silently stared at her before standing with quite the hassle. "I am fine." she declared before taking in a deep breath. She always cried so easily, and I could see it in her eyes right now, she was only holding the tears back. "The first task is to perform the royal bridal dance, that you will entice your future husband with. Anna, you may begin since you are first." Marcella announces and Anna does as she said, dancing her soul away. You would have to hate her not to be impressed with the way she danced. The king was still looking displeased, but that was probably just a front. So many people predicted that she would be the chosen one, and of course they were delighted to see her dance really well and set the bar high. Beth followed, missing many steps of the dance and basically lacking confidence. At the end of her dance, she was glaring at everyone in the room because silence followed. Hailey was immediately disqualified from the dance round when she instantly fell and twistsed her ankle after trying for a few seconds. While everyone felt really sad for her, she just appeared to be angry. Poor Hailey must have no idea how planned this was. My heart began pounding hard when Ona was called up next. Ona hates dancing, and her face was not saying anything else. She gave the dance not even ten percent of herself, dancing with a face full of annoyance. When the music stopped playing, she rolled her eyes, dragging her feet to the end of the room where her sisters were. A few more rounds of the "competition" that nobody wanted to acknowledge as a competition continued and in the middle of giving her speech, gasps filled the room again as Beth growled out in pain. Holding her stomach in pain, she ran out if the room and silence washed over us. It was embarrassing, deeply.. Beth must be wanting to die right now. It was a not as bad as I thought it would be to he here, if I did not need to be concerned for Ona, this would be more peaceful. There is not a single person trying to talk to me, and there is not a single chore that I am stressing about in the back of my mind. "Enough! This has been embarrassing enough! I have no time for games. The princess that went to answer nature's call can stay there. I will make my decision at once!" King David announced and the room went quiet apart from queen Kate, trying to urge him to change his mind. "B-but... My king. Wouldn't it be hasty to make a decision before determining how fit the princess really are for this role?" “Do not ever question how wise I am, Kate. Bring the girls forward and I will be out of here soon. I know what's best for my son and I will know it when I see it”. King David simply responded, and Queen Kate clearly looked very embarrassed. I mean, it definitely made sense. The man that King David was was very good at making people feel absolutely shriveled up, like they did not like him. “ All right then my King, you are correct, I was mistaken”. Queen Kate responds and I can just tell how angry King Owen looks right now. “Excuse my Queen, she tends to speak out of line sometimes. Bring forward the girls.” King Owen directs his attention from his wife straight back to Marcella and she ushers the girls forward. Hailey is barely making it better. She continues limping forward. I suppose admitting defeat was just not an option to her. “All right, that's enough, you stay back. Very, very weak, stupid girl” King David responded and Hailey just gasped out in shock. “ No, my King, I promise you this has never happened to me before. I do not know what happened, someone must be out to get me.” Hailey yells out and King Owen just starts shaking head. “Who would be out to get you? Hailey, this is just a very unfortunate event, just accept that you will have better luck next time.” Anna immediately responds and I can just see that smirk on her face. Anna looked rather very satisfied with what had happened to Hailey, because her overwhelming beauty would cease to be a threat to her. Anna looked rather very satisfied with the situation right now. I mean, she felt that for all it must have been very pleasing to her right now to be seeing exactly what's happening right now in front of her eyes. And the fact that she had no remorse at all was just beyond astonishing. However she did, it was absolutely a mystery to me, but she knew just how to be heartless to even do something like this to her sister. Bring me the other one. “ Where is the other one?” David asks when he realizes that only Anna is in front of her and Ona definitely doesn't want to move from where she is right now. “ Ona was it? Get here! rather very stubborn you make my decision too easy.” He sighs. King David just looked so disappointed . “You, it will be you.” He announces and Anna just widens her eyes in shock and I can just the look of relief on Ona’s face. This seems like a very rather unfair competition, and I could not believe that no matter what, evil prevails. It was true . For such a powerful leader, King David clearly did not have the best charge of character. Or maybe he did. Maybe he just realized. That one person that was willing to be this determined must have some kind of evil in the blood. And it was true. If he was looking for an evil daughter hanger then he had definitely found one for himself “Are you-, am I…the one? Are you? Is this not a joke, my king? Alma asks the question,Standing up and bowing down to King David. “My King, I promise that I will be the best bride for your son. You will not regret your decision my king, I promise you that.” She responds and I'm absolutely disgusted by this moment. Of course I do not want Ona to be the one to be feeling there, but the fact that this was happening in such an unfair manner was absolutely upsetting. “All right then everybody, you have heard King David's decision!” “and it's not final!” Out of nowhere a voice alarms everyone and everyone just stares to the entrance of the room, and I am just left stunned as the most handsome man I've ever seen walks through the door, his dark brown hair perfectly suiting his moss green eyes as he took every step like he just oozes power, like he just owned this room. I had definitely seen this face before, very faintly, and it had never been in person. I knew who it was. It was King David's son, the one and only heir, Prince Ethan and he did not look happy at all. “ I told you, you will not make a decision for me father, and did I not give you perfect guidelines on how to do it even if I was to let you?” He questions and King David looks rather upset. “I will not be having this, I am not going to marry her.” He yells out when he realizes who has been chosen. “My, my Prince, whatever have I done to you?” Anna questions with haste and Prince Ethan just scoffs like he is almost laughing at her internally for being stupid about something. Something she should know. “Do not ask me that. You will not be my wife. It’s not like all the eight kingdoms do not have at least one boy that has a story about being between your legs!” He retorts and Anna’s mouth drops open. “M-my prince! Those rumours have gotten to you too?” She asks and prince Ethan just holds his index finger in front of her face before he turns around and points it in a different direction. “You. I will take you.” He points at Ona's direction and Ona immediately widens her eyes. “ What? That is not what is going to happen. I am so sorry my King, but I will not be your daughter-in-law. I am not fit to do such a thing. Have you not seen me? I'm the most embarrassing thing in this family!” Ona yells and King David just looks rather annoyed. “Get back to the car and leave. I am the one that's going to be choosing my own daughter-in-law.” King David says and King Prince Ethan just shakes his head. Something about him was still alluring and I really could not put my finger on it, but it was probably just his charm, his looks. He was the kind of man that demands your attention every single way that he went, and it was rather not surprising that I was being captured by his charisma right now and the fact that he was willing to stand up to King David. Not a lot of people were willing to do so and I did not think that it would be his son. That would have the best to do it. “Yes, my king. My king, please, please talk to him”. Anna says, getting closer to King David and basically clinging onto his legs. He immediately kicked her away and she landed on her butt as the whole crowd gasped. “You are coming with me”. Prince Ethan says to Ona. “ No, I am not. You will not make me!” She protests. I hope I was not the reason she was insisting on refusing. “We forgot about one very important thing. All the princesses did not join this competition. Oh yes, that's right, I'm going to reveal it. Can you tell him to stop right now before I reveal that you have a hidden daughter?” Ona suddenly yells and everyone gasps in the room, Queen Kate being the loudest of them all as she rose from her seat and immediately demanded silence from her daughter. “ Ona, Ona! don't you there!” She pauses as she looks around. “ don’t you dare start without your fake stories! Tell the. To someone’s toddler before they go to bed so they can at least be useful!” “ Oh I will do it because the hidden daughter is actually in this room and she deserves to be a part of this competition just as the rest of us deserve to be here.” Ona yells and immediately I just feel my heart sinking down all the way to my stomach. What does she do when this could not happen? She knew what the price of this was. The fact that I was alive was dependent on the secret being kept. She definitely could not be doing this right now. I immediately started shaking my head at her and she just shook her head straight back at me. “I will do whatever it takes to protect her if you try to kill her, but I cannot hold it any longer. If you must force me to do this mother, I will definitely reveal who she is and how she came into being.” Ona yelled and my heart was just beating fast and I was just hoping that someone would do something about the situation and make sure that Ona does not reveal there's a real truth right now, but it did not look like those in that could stop her. “Where's that Princess?” King David asks and immediately Queen Kate rushes to his side.. “ Oh my king, I think we should take a break. This has definitely gotten out of hand” . “Stop it. Are you hiring a daughter?” He asks and King Owen rises from his seat. “This is always been one great misunderstanding. Ona, you are the worst. Go to your room.” “Hold on, king Owen! how shall she go to her room when I have requested for her? I said sp, she's coming with me,” Prince Ethan yells and Ona immediately objects. “I'm not going anywhere. I have had it. There she is. There is the daughter that Queen Kate and King Owen have hidden for 18 years of her life. There she lies. She deserves to be a part of this competition just as much as the rest of us do.” Ona does the one thing I never expected her to do, and my eyes are just widened in shock as her finger points straight towards me. Everyone stares straight at me and I just feel rather embarrassed right now. Embarrassment was not the right word. This was beyond anything that I could describe. Fear, confusion, the lack of proper emotion? I had no idea, but my heart was pounding fast, like my life was over. It might as well be after this.
