A smirk appeared on her lips as she gazed upon their balling eyes and trembling sight. It was hilarious for her.
"Anderson?" Her teacher from before, Mrs. Faredo, exclaimed in shock
"Pleasure to remember you, Mrs. Faredo" She slightly bowed, gesturing her hand to the side gracefully
Silence surrounded them as they all took their time to take in the information the scene in front of their eyes had given them. Violet patiently waited for them to take in the information as she leaned on the door formed, hands folded under her arms. She took that time to analyze the expressions they held, and she came up with one clear answer—fear.
Who wouldn’t be scared? The funeral they attended months ago was for the person standing on their doorway. You may think that ‘Oh maybe it was a cover-up?’—it would have been their thoughts too, but they saw her inside the casket. She was lifelessly laying inside the black casket that her family had bought for her.
Shaking her head, she entered the classroom and glanced at her classmates, looking for familiar faces that were spotted at the back of the room. But her eyes glared at the groups on the other side of the room. She remembered all too well why everything came to this. And those people on that side of the room had everything to do with it.
"Mrs. Faredo, I really must apologize to barge in without a letter before, but my father had already enrolled me in this class and forgot to send an email to you.” She smiled sweetly, trying to ease the heavy atmosphere she had brought with her
Fear and Confusion were all there is to their emotions. Fear that this had all been a dream and this dead girl is haunting them and Confused how it was possible if she was indeed brought back to life.
"Ms. Anderson, y-you may… take your seat.” Her words were forced as if her mind was in shambles, trying to figure out how she could attend school after what had happened
She nodded and thanked her casually before walking to the back of the class where an extra chair was kept. She knew it was her seat because they’ve kept at least extra seats in school ever since she was gone.
Minutes before Mrs. Faredo could begin their class for the day, a knock on the door startled them.
Violet chuckled upon seeing her twin brother entering the room with exhaustion written all over his face.
“I must apologize for being late, Mrs. Faredo.” He panted “Traffic in this country is terrible.”
“Or were you chased by another hoe of yours,” Violet muttered to herself
Mrs. Faredo’s eyes shifted from her to Tyler a couple of times before finally speaking “Twins…?”
They both nodded.
Mrs. Faredo finally got to pull herself together and clasp her hands “Right, now please take your seats a-and… we shall begin.”
Tyler quickly took a seat in front of his twin sister and glanced over his shoulder to wink at her. Violet rolled her eyes at him.
Everyone who was still stunned and confused finally fixed their seats and faced the board upfront. She could see her friends’ faces who had slight tears in their eyes as they continued to keep their composure. She felt a little bad for them since she knew it was her fault.
"So, Uhm, let's Start with Ms. Anderson.” Mrs. Faredo gestured at her
Violet almost laughed out loud at her remark but chose to hide it with a smile. She knew all too well that everyone’s dying to ask what had happened. She’s not allowed to give full details—except for those she had been told as an exception.
She stood up and said “Hello, I am Violet Anderson. A former student in this school. I hope to get along with you all.”
Then it was the person beside her’s turn—Aera. “I-I’m…” She wiped her tears and said, “I’m Aera Neior, a former student.”
“Elise Hail, a former student.”
“Kora Fiero, a former student.”
While the introduction continued, Violet couldn’t help but glance at Aera. With a sigh, she said, “How’s life?”
"Horrible.” Aera sniffed and wiped her nose “You’re alive and didn’t call us?”
She sighed and slouched on her chair “My memories of before the incident were as blurry as your eyes, so I didn’t know who and what I was—who was I with and why I was there. I couldn’t call you because Dad said I couldn’t just yet.”
Aera pouted and flooded her arms “Still.”
Violet chuckled at her remark and shook her head.
After their introduction, the teacher began to explain her class for their first semester. All of it was the boring part so she partly dozed off during every morning period. Lunch came and it was all she was hoping for.
Just like she thought, no other student tried to come close to her nor ask. But her old friends did accompany her and her twin. She didn’t even mind the eyes that once again was drawn to her.
As soon as they sat on the round table, Kora pinched her arm, trying to figure out if she’s real.
"Yes, Kora, I’m alive.” Violet sighed
“I’m just checking.” Kora raised both her arms in defeat “I mean I saw you dead—when your sister got home from the states and went to your funeral she checked your pulse just in case.”
Tyler choked on his coke as he burst out laughing along with Aera and Elise.
Violet scoffed and shook her head “I figured she would’ve done that.”
“Fiero!” A high pitched scream yelled as the sound of the canteen doors flew open
A group of people that wore blue jackets walked towards them, led by an angry-looking girl who marched faster than the rest.
Ah, Bone breakers.
Violet scoffed at the hilarious name they had. It was required to be part of groups in their time. Divisions to which they would choose their names and what they are. This school has too many ‘gangsters’—she’s one of them.
When the group reached the table, the girl slammed her hands on the table, between the gap Kora and Violet made.
"I see your group Leader is alive... We meet again, bitch." She said with a glare
Violet swept a look at her from her to toe before raising a brow “I can’t tell if you’re facing us or your back is turned.”
Suppressed laughter echoed in the wide cafeteria—and that angered her even more.
“Ha! You cocky bitch.” She leaned on her side facing Violet completely “Come to think of it, you’re not in the ranks anymore. I got in the top five so…” She slowly bent forward, close to her “I’m higher than you—and I assure you, I will take your spot from before.”
A smirk appeared on her face as she leaned closer to her face “Well… Lori Mae, you’re still too slow. I’ve been gone for years and you still haven’t reached higher than five?” She pouted mockingly “Too bad.”
Lori glared at her remark, gritting her teeth, she slammed her curled fist on the table “YOU—” her voice got louder for a second before it faded lower “will never beat Glaze. He has your rank and I know all too well that he’ll stay there longer than you.”
Violet c****d her head back, laughing loudly “Lori. Lori… Lo. Ri.”
Tyler chuckled at that. He found the scene in front of him very amusing, but he noticed how Kora was completely silent at the sudden drama beside her.
“Why don’t we have a match to see if you’re worthy of the rank you have?” Violet smirked widely
Murmurs broke out around the cafeteria. Matches always were a brave concept to have your rank in any place. It was required to have your ranks switched according to who wins and loses.
Lori’s face slightly changed and she saw a glimpse of a fear cross from her eyes, but she regained her composure and smirked back “Fine.”
Violet grinned deviously “Alright then. Have them prepare a ring for us.”
Lori scoffed “Tables!”
Every student in the cafeteria hurriedly pulled the tables away from their spot and made an area big enough for them to fight in.
Lori took her jacket off and showed off her sleeveless crop top. Violet scoffed and took her hoodie off to reveal her black sports bra. She smirked at Lori’s glare and they both made their way to the center.
“Don’t go running to your group crying, okay?” Violet teased
Lori rolled her eyes “As if.”
Their referee was a student from Lori’s group. He laid out the rules for them which were required during every match.
Once the rules were all stated and it was time for them to begin, Violet was the first to attack.
Tyler snickered “I bet they'll take a few seconds.”
Aera looked up at him “Will they?”
Violet was so fast that Lori couldn’t even predict where she was going. With a quick sidestep, Violet swerved to get behind Lori, kicking her with so much force that Lori coughed out before hitting the ground. She quickly stepped on her back.
Silence surrounded them before a loud cheer broke out. Screams of disbelief and laughter echoed in the cafeteria to which Violet’s friends joined into.
She bent forward “Bye-Bye rankless. I’m on fifth now.”
Her friends were all cheering for her in excitement.
Violet couldn’t blame them. She knew how fast that was for them to see since she went through ranks 20, 15, and 7 before taking the highest. It was indeed a surprise for them to see her easily get to the fifth rank right from being rankless.
That was what made the others adore, and be frightened, of her.
Right after the mess in the cafeteria, they finished their lunch quickly to have time to stay in the courtyard where air passes through the opened sides. Her friends wouldn’t stop bugging her asking how she got to be so fast and strong. She gave them the luxury of knowing of course. That’s the least she could do to make it up for them.
“By the way, Nyx—” That was the nickname they gave her since ever since they were in middle school because of her dark aura and choice of the outfit “—Do you know who Glaze is?”
She shook her head “Well no not really. I did regain most of my memories, but I lack some areas.” Violet shrugged nonchalantly
“He’s the highest-ranking among the leaders.” Elise explained, “He took your place months after your… death.”
Violet chuckled “Whoever he is, I will take that Rank from him.”
Her eyes focused on her town brother who joined in a group of other guys to play basketball with. They continued to watch and cheer for them—Violet mostly teased his brother to distract him. Nevertheless, he was good at it.
But then her mind wandered back to what they were talking about “Does he have a group?” The three gave her confused looks. “Glaze.”
Kora nodded “he has the biggest gang in this school.”
Aera leaned closer “I heard he has other members outside too. He might even be the leader of one of the biggest groups.”
Violet scoffed “Psh, that’ll be easy. I’ll get it back in no time.”
Elise frowned “Violet, you may have taken the Fifth rank quicker than the last time, but what if you lose this time? What if you go back to being rankless or become his servant? Are you even thinking about those times?”
She smiled reassuringly and winked at Elise “DOn’t worry about it, Hon.”
“We are worrying.” The three narrowed their eyes at her
Violet laughed at their complaints and shook her head to watch her brother again.
Suddenly, a loud bang echoed in the court. As if metal doors hit the cemented walls.
“MOVE! THEY'RE HERE!”
