The town of Bercah
The town of Bercah was not a place known to the world. It did not appear on royal maps, nor was it mentioned in the stories told by traveling merchants. Yet to those who lived there, Bercah was the center of everything. It was a quiet town surrounded by wide green plains and distant blue mountains that stood like ancient guardians around the land. A small river flowed through the eastern side of the town, bringing life to the farms and gardens that fed its people. In Bercah, people lived simple lives. Farmers rose before sunrise to tend their fields. Blacksmiths shaped iron beneath the glow of hot furnaces. Traders filled the small marketplace every morning with baskets of fruits, grains, fabrics, and herbs. But among all the people of Bercah, there was one young man who stood apart. His name was Xavi. Xavi was not born into wealth or royalty. His father had been a woodcutter, and his mother a weaver. From childhood, Xavi learned the value of hard work and patience. Yet there was something unusual about him. He possessed a calm strength and a fearless spirit that made people trust him instantly. Even when he was a boy, he would climb the tallest trees, cross the strongest rivers, and explore the edges of the forest where others dared not go. Some said the boy carried the courage of ten men. Others said destiny had its eyes on him. Xavi himself did not think much about destiny. He simply lived his life with honesty and determination. As the years passed, Xavi grew into a strong young man. His shoulders were broad from years of work, and his hands were rough from cutting wood and carrying heavy loads. But what people admired most was not his strength. It was his heart. Whenever someone in Bercah needed help, Xavi was the first to arrive. If a roof collapsed during a storm, he repaired it. If an elderly farmer struggled with harvest, Xavi helped gather the crops. Because of this, the people of Bercah respected him deeply. Yet there was one person whose opinion mattered more to Xavi than anyone else's. Her name was Annie. Annie was the daughter of a respected man in the town. Her father, Eldric, was known for his wisdom and strict traditions. Many people came to him for advice when they faced difficult decisions. Annie had inherited her father's intelligence, but she also possessed a kindness that made her loved by everyone. Her laughter could brighten even the darkest day. Xavi had known Annie since they were children. They grew up playing near the river, chasing birds across the fields, and climbing hills that overlooked the town. Over time, their friendship grew into something deeper. Love. But loving Annie was not simple. Eldric was a careful man, and he believed his daughter deserved someone extraordinary. One evening, as the sun slowly disappeared behind the mountains, Xavi walked toward Eldric’s house. His heart was beating heavily in his chest. He had made a decision. He wanted to marry Annie. The wooden door creaked softly as he knocked. Moments later, Eldric opened it. The older man studied Xavi with sharp eyes. “Good evening, Xavi,” Eldric said calmly. “Good evening, sir,” Xavi replied respectfully. “What brings you here?” Xavi hesitated for a moment before speaking. “I have come to ask for Annie’s hand in marriage.” The air became silent. Eldric did not immediately answer. Instead, he stepped outside and closed the door behind him. The evening wind moved gently through the tall grass around them. “You are a good man, Xavi,” Eldric finally said. “But being good is not always enough.” Xavi listened carefully. “I want to know,” Eldric continued, “that the man who marries my daughter is capable of facing the impossible.” Xavi frowned slightly. “What must I do?” Eldric looked toward the distant mountains. Beyond those mountains was a place few people spoke about. A place surrounded by mystery and fear. “The Forest of Casis,” Eldric said quietly. Even hearing the name made the wind feel colder. Stories about the Forest of Casis had been told in Bercah for generations. It was said the forest was ancient—older than kingdoms and older than recorded history. Many travelers who entered it never returned. Others returned… changed. Xavi felt a chill run through his body. “What about the forest?” he asked. Eldric looked directly into his eyes. “Deep inside the forest lies a magical Sceptre.” “A rod created long ago by the guardians of Cansis Magic.” “If you truly wish to marry my daughter,” Eldric said slowly, “you must go into the Forest of Casis and bring back the Sceptre.” Xavi’s heart pounded. “That is the only condition?” Eldric nodded. “If you return with the Sceptre, I will give you Annie’s hand.” “But understand this…” “Many men have tried to enter that forest.” “None have succeeded.” The silence between them grew heavy. For a moment, Xavi thought about the danger. He thought about the stories. The beasts. The puzzles. The ancient forces said to guard the forest. Then he thought about Annie. Her smile. Her kindness. Her belief in him. Xavi straightened his shoulders. “I will go,” he said firmly. Eldric studied him carefully. “You leave at sunrise.” That night, Xavi could not sleep. The moon hung bright above Bercah as he walked through the quiet streets of the town. Every house was silent. Every light was dim. Yet his mind was filled with questions. What truly existed inside the Forest of Casis? Was the Sceptre real? Or was this simply a test designed to prove courage? As he walked, he eventually reached the river where he and Annie used to sit as children. To his surprise, Annie was already there. She turned when she heard his footsteps. “You spoke to my father,” she said softly. Xavi nodded. “And he told you about the forest.” “Yes.” Annie walked closer. Her expression carried both worry and admiration. “You do not have to do this,” she said. But Xavi shook his head. “I do.” “Not just for your father.” “For you.” Annie’s eyes glistened in the moonlight. “The forest is dangerous, Xavi.” “I know.” “You might not come back.” Xavi smiled gently. “Then I will make sure I do.” For a moment, neither of them spoke. The river flowed quietly beside them. Finally, Annie reached into her pocket and pulled out a small silver pendant. “My mother gave me this before she died,” she said. “She said it protects the heart of the one who carries it.” She placed it into Xavi’s hand. “Take it with you.” Xavi looked at the pendant and closed his fingers around it. “I will return,” he promised. And deep inside his heart, he meant every word. At sunrise the next morning, Xavi began his journey. The mountains ahead waited silently. And beyond them… The Forest of Casis. The place where courage would be tested. Where magic still lived. And where the destiny of a man named Xavi was about to begin. But unknown to him, the Sceptre he was about to find carried a power far greater than anyone in Bercah could imagine. A power connected to an ancient throne. A forgotten kingdom. And a destiny that would one day make him King of Casiscor. Yet that destiny would also bring conflict. Betrayal. And a battle over who would inherit the final power of Cansis Magic. But for now… Xavi was only a man walking toward a forest. Unaware that history itself was waiting for him inside.
