Chapter 1: Betrayed on My Wedding Day
The morning of Ariana Cole’s wedding began like a dream.
Sunlight poured through the tall windows of the bridal suite, casting a warm glow across the room. Outside, the city of New York moved as it always did—busy, loud, and full of people chasing their own stories. But inside the luxurious hotel suite, everything felt peaceful.
Today was supposed to be the beginning of Ariana’s forever.
She stood in front of the mirror, staring at herself in the reflection. The white wedding gown fit perfectly, the delicate details around the sleeves shining under the light. Her hair was styled elegantly, and her makeup highlighted the happiness she felt inside.
For years, she had imagined this moment.
The flowers.
The music.
The promises.
The moment she would walk down the aisle and meet the eyes of the man she loved.
Ethan Carter.
Just thinking about his name brought a small smile to her face.
They had met three years ago during an event she had organized. At the time, Ariana was still struggling to build her career as an event planner and fashion designer. Ethan had been one of the few people who believed in her.
He had told her that her dreams mattered.
He had told her that he wanted to build a future with her.
And Ariana believed him.
She believed every promise, every late-night conversation, and every moment they shared.
“Ariana.”
She turned as the door opened.
Sophia Cole walked into the room holding a small gift box.
Sophia had been her closest friend since college. She was the one person who knew all of Ariana’s fears, dreams, and struggles.
“You’re finally getting married,” Sophia said with a smile.
Ariana laughed softly. “I know. It feels unreal.”
Sophia walked closer and handed her the gift box.
“What is this?”
“Something old, something new, something to remind you that no matter what happens, you’ll always have someone beside you.”
Ariana opened the box and found a beautiful bracelet inside.
Her expression softened.
“Sophia…”
“Don’t cry. Your makeup is too perfect for that.”
They both laughed.
For a few minutes, everything felt perfect.
But then Ariana looked at the clock.
Her smile slowly disappeared.
“Is Ethan here yet?”
Sophia glanced at the time.
“He should be.”
Ariana picked up her phone and checked for messages.
Nothing.
She tried calling him.
No answer.
At first, she wasn’t worried.
Ethan had always been responsible. Maybe he was busy with last-minute preparations. Maybe he was dealing with family members or guests.
“He’s probably just nervous,” Ariana said.
Sophia studied her face.
“You’re sure?”
Ariana nodded.
“Yes. Ethan wouldn’t do anything to hurt me.”
She said the words confidently.
But deep down, a strange feeling had already started growing.
An hour passed.
Then another thirty minutes.
The wedding hall was ready.
The guests were seated.
The musicians were waiting.
But the groom was nowhere to be found.
Whispers began spreading among the guests.
Ariana’s family members exchanged worried looks.
Sophia stepped outside to find out what was happening.
When she returned, her face looked different.
Not worried.
Heartbroken.
“Ariana…”
Ariana immediately stood up.
“What happened?”
Sophia didn’t answer.
Instead, she slowly handed Ariana her phone.
On the screen was a picture.
A picture of Ethan.
With another woman.
Ariana stared at it.
Her mind refused to understand what she was seeing.
The woman beside Ethan was Victoria Blackwood.
The daughter of one of New York’s richest families.
The headline above the picture made Ariana’s heart stop.
“Ethan Carter Spotted With Victoria Blackwood Before His Wedding Day.”
“No,” Ariana whispered.
Sophia reached for her hand.
“I’m sorry.”
Ariana shook her head.
“No. This can’t be right.”
She looked at the picture again.
Maybe there was an explanation.
Maybe the media had twisted something.
Maybe Ethan would walk through that door and tell her everything was a misunderstanding.
She needed that to be true.
Because accepting the alternative meant accepting that the man she loved had betrayed her on the most important day of her life.
The door opened.
Ariana’s heart jumped.
Ethan walked in.
For one second, hope returned.
Then she saw his face.
He wasn’t confused.
He wasn’t angry about a false rumor.
He looked guilty.
The silence between them was painful.
“Ethan,” Ariana said quietly.
He avoided her eyes.
“We need to talk.”
Ariana laughed softly, but there was no happiness in it.
“Talk?”
She looked around the room.
“Today is our wedding day.”
“I know.”
“Then why are you here looking like you’re about to leave?”
Ethan remained silent.
That silence hurt more than any answer.
“Tell me it isn’t true,” Ariana said.
“Tell me that picture is fake.”
Ethan closed his eyes for a moment.
“I never wanted you to find out like this.”
Ariana felt her heart sink.
Those words confirmed everything.
“How long?”
Ethan looked confused.
“What?”
“How long have you been lying to me?”
“Ariana…”
“No. Answer me.”
He looked away.
“I didn’t plan for this to happen.”
She stepped back.
“Not planned?”
Her voice shook.
“You planned our wedding. You planned our future. You looked me in the eyes and promised me forever.”
“I cared about you.”
The words made her freeze.
Cared.
Not love.
Cared.
Ariana felt tears building in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.
“Who is she?”
Ethan hesitated.
“Victoria.”
Ariana gave a small, painful smile.
“Of course.”
Victoria Blackwood had everything Ariana didn’t have—wealth, influence, and a powerful family name.
But Ariana had never believed love was about money.
Apparently, Ethan did.
“I’m sorry,” Ethan said.
Ariana looked at him.
“I don’t want your apology.”
She removed the ring from her finger.
The symbol of their promises.
The symbol of a future that no longer existed.
She placed it in his hand.
“Keep it.”
Ethan looked shocked.
“Ariana…”
“No.”
Her voice was calm now.
“You already made your choice.”
She walked past him.
The wedding guests watched silently as she left the hall.
The flowers were still beautiful.
The music was still playing.
Everything looked exactly the same.
Except Ariana was no longer a bride waiting for her husband.
She was a woman walking away from a broken promise.
Outside the hotel, cameras flashed.
Reporters rushed toward her.
“Ms. Cole, is the wedding cancelled?”
“Is it true Ethan Carter left you for Victoria Blackwood?”
“Do you have anything to say?”
Ariana stopped.
For a moment, everyone waited.
She looked at the crowd and took a deep breath.
“I have nothing to say.”
Then she walked away.
That night, Ariana sat alone in her apartment.
The wedding dress had been removed, but the pain remained.
She looked at the bracelet Sophia gave her earlier.
A reminder that she was not alone.
Her phone suddenly vibrated.
Unknown number.
She almost ignored it.
But something made her open the message.
“Ethan Carter is not the man you think he is. If you want the truth, meet me tomorrow at Blackwood Tower.”
Ariana frowned.
Blackwood Tower?
The headquarters of the Blackwood family.
Why would someone from the Blackwood family contact her?
She had no idea that accepting that meeting would introduce her to Damien Blackwood.
A man known throughout New York as powerful, mysterious, and impossible to understand.
A man who would offer her a deal that would change both of their lives forever.
And a man who would become the last person Ariana expected to trust.
