BLAINE My espresso was untouched. Gabe had placed it there minutes ago, without expecting a reaction. He had since returned to the stack of documents on my desk, looking through them in silence. I sat still, fingers steepled against my chin, eyes fixed on the dark surface of the cup. After my last interaction with my principessa, I needed space to cool down. I had pushed too far. Said the wrong things. Or not. This woman confused the hell out of me. I was sure I went too far when I saw the wide-eyed horror written all over her face. But I had also noticed her licking her lips, and her trembling hand pulling me in instead of pushing me away. Was it possible that she wanted me just as much as I wanted her? Of course, I would never share her, how implied, but I wanted to see her reaction
