Amelia
I still didn’t feel very comfortable in this situation. My eyes kept drifting toward Sean, the man who was still gently holding my child and occasionally stroking his head so softly.
It was pure coincidence, running into an old friend, and since Julian had fallen asleep, he’d decided to drive us home.
Unable to refuse his kindness, I let Sean do as he wished. Until our eyes met, and he smiled.
"Amelia, I really hope you won’t ignore me this time."
His words made me press my lips together. What I did in the past must have left a mark on his heart. I really had been a bit cruel back then.
He sighed as he adjusted his position. "I never did anything wrong, Amelia."
The way he spoke in that teasing tone, just like he used to, he makes me smile and feel a little lighter, even though we’d just met again.
"Yes, I’ve saved your number. And you should do the same."
Sean had moved so quickly earlier, taking my phone and saving his number in it.
That was one of the things I liked about him, his incredible thoughtfulness.
The car stopping pulled our attention back, time had flown by so fast, and we’d already arrived at my house. The wide yard with its blooming flowers still left my heart feeling empty whenever I looked at it.
I quietly took a short breath and got ready to lift Julian, but Sean didn’t allow it. He watched over him as he got out carrying Julian, making me hurry to catch up.
"Sean, I can carry him." I still tried to take Julian from him.
In situations like this, when I was always blamed, I couldn’t help feeling anxious about every little thing, even the smallest thing could turn into something big.
"I’ll carry him up to the door." Sean responded, still walking.
"Sean, you’ve helped me enough. Let me."
My mind was filled with so many things. He had done so much for me, yet I still felt so small and guilty toward him. Without realizing it, our steps had stopped—right in front of the brown door.
After our little back-and-forth, my heartbeat was still racing. His eyes caught mine as he gently handed Julian over.
"Now you can take him," he said in a soft voice.
I took Julian in my arms. "Thank you, Sean."
He waved, walking back to his car but looking back at me several times before he left.
As he left, I let out a breath. I felt relieved that Sean hadn’t run into Liam, because I knew how much that man hated seeing me with anyone else.
Looking at Julian’s face, all I wanted was to lay him down on the bed and let him sleep comfortably. But as I stepped inside the house, those blue eyes looked at me in a way that shattered my heart.
His expression was harsh, as if wrapped in darkness. He had been watching us all this time.
He stepped closer. “Who was that man?” he asked.
He was still wearing his suit—it looked like he had just gotten home. He shouldn’t have come home at a time like this anyway, since he usually buried himself in work, came home at midnight, ignored the dinner I made, or didn’t come home at all.
He always made sure his hatred showed clearly in his eyes whenever he looked at me. And like a fool, I would keep trying to be a good wife, hoping I could earn his love.
I managed to hold myself together. “A friend of mine.”
I thought that would be enough, but he didn’t let me pass so easily.
"You’ve found a new trick." He’s breathing hard as he spoke.
I didn’t understand what he meant.
"You’re going to tell your friend that you’re my wife and think that I’ll care about that?"
The anger in his words hit me like bullets tearing through my heart. I held Julian tighter, trying to stay calm and contain the pain as my heartbeat quickened.
"I-I… I never thought that way. He just helped me, that’s all."
What was I thinking? Of course he would never believe anything I said, his sneer only mocked me further.
I wanted to ignore it, to just get through it and act strong like nothing had happened in front of him. When I thought that, he grabbed my arm so hard that his eyes seemed to pierce right through mine.
"Stop ruining my life—whatever you do, I could never see you as my real wife, and I have never loved you. Wake up, you’re f*****g disgusting, Amelia."
Every word he spit out was full of anger and contempt, I feel my heart tearing apart over and over again.
My body weakened so quickly. I couldn’t hold myself up anymore.
"Liam, please — Julian’s sleeping…"
"Remember that." He snapped, then turned and left me there.
I quickly went to Julian’s room, laid him gently on his bed. then my own body collapsed to the floor, tears streaming endlessly down my face.
Even though our marriage was a business deal, I never imagined he would always be this cold and full of accusations.
My breath came out in ragged gasps because of these emotions, until I finally forced myself to go to my room to calm down. The truth is he doesn’t love me. I had known that for a long time. And the real reason he never wanted anyone to know about our marriage was because he didn’t want to clear up the rumors, so nothing would disturb Sophia later.
Liam said that his marriage to Sophia would happen as soon as she woke up.
A while later, I fixed my hair. I took a deep breath and pushed away the pain that filled every part of me.
My attention shifted when my phone vibrated, a message from Liam appeared.
I won’t be coming home tonight.
I replied immediately.
Ok.
A short reply, as usual. I didn’t expect anything more, that’s how he was. He would never grant my requests or do what I wanted.
Right. I didn’t expect much, because that man was probably sitting next to Sophia right now, telling her how much he loved her. And in those moments, I could see the face of a man who truly cared, the face of a man who loved a woman I could never be.
I still don’t understand myself, how I could stay so painfully naive.
A long breath escaped my lips. “Should I call Sean?”
The entertainment world was something I truly loved. I had a long list of things I wanted to do—I even secretly kept adding to that list with all the ideas I still had. But I can’t do any of it because it would involve Liam.
He would be furious, saying I only did it to hurt his pride.
As I was thinking, my phone vibrated again.
I take a deep breath before opening the message. it was from Liam’s best friend, a man who utterly despised me and constantly said I was the unlucky woman who trapped Liam.
Gabriel would arrogantly give me orders as if I were just a servant. Or sometimes he’d send me things about Liam and Sophia’s relationship.
They love each other. A woman like you will never have Liam’s love.
Remembering his sharp words made my forehead crease. Finally, I opened his message, and it shattered my heart.
Sophia is awake. Look, now Liam can finally be with his true love!
He even sent a photo of Liam hugging his woman with tears in his eyes. God… I swear at that moment my heart hurt so much, and I realized I had such an ugly side… hoping maybe that woman shouldn’t have woken up…
