amelia
Hell… what’s wrong with me?
Ever since I found out he only kept me as a blood bag for Sophia and that man loved his first love so much, I knew this day would come.
I knew I would be replaced so easily. And then he’d have the real wedding he wanted.
Yet the anxiety still devoured me. After this… what else would happen to me? I fist my hand in frustration and got distracted again by my phone vibrating.
Sean…
It felt like I had just been handed an answer to this whole situation. I eagerly picked up my phone.
"Sean."
"Amelia, I’m sorry to call you like this, but maybe you could come to the theater with me tomorrow."
I start calming myself down. The anxiety that had been drowning me began to ease, little by little.
"Alright, Sean."
Wouldn’t they all just ignore me even more once things went back to how they were? I would have even less of a place in my family—or at his side.
The need to protect Julian made me realize I had to start thinking about myself too. I needed strength. I knew that if things stayed like this, I wouldn’t be able to protect myself or Julian.
I f*****g understand.
I couldn’t shut Sean out.
"You really can?"
"Yes." I answered quickly.
"Alright, I thought maybe you’d say no since I asked so suddenly."
I gave a faint smile. The situation I was facing was so uncertain, but I wanted to find any lifeline that could help pull me up.
"See you tomorrow, Amelia."
With that, our call ended. I felt a small sense of relief. like I finally had a bit of hope to live better. Maybe it was rushed, but deep down I still wished he wouldn’t abandon me…
Thinking about so many things made my head hurt—I lay down on the bed to rest. Everything will pass, just like all those videos on the internet say, though sometimes those words only make me laugh at myself.
I don’t know when happiness will ever come for me….
In the morning, while I was preparing breakfast for Julian, I was startled by Liam watching me. I had no idea how long he’d been standing there.
Slowly, he sat down next to Julian, who was waiting for his food.
"Father," Julian said softly.
In that moment, I felt so touched seeing this, Liam gently touched Julian’s cheek and actually responded to him.
"Yes?"
And Julian’s face lit up with a wide smile. Maybe this was normal for other fathers and sons—but not for Liam. This was the first time he had even taken food from my hands and sat down to eat breakfast with us.
He ate my cooking without saying a word, as if I was beneath him. But this turned into me quietly watching him.
Was he in a good mood?
I was sure of it, because Sophia had woken up. I was a coward for choosing not to ask him anything about it, even squeezing my own hand to stop myself, too afraid to hear him say anything about our marriage now that Sophia was awake.
I take a sip of my juice and try to calm myself.
A few minutes later, we were done with breakfast. He let the maid take Julian away from us.
"Sophia’s awake."
When those words came out, my breath caught.
"You’re coming with me to the hospital today."
Everyone knew my relationship with Sophia wasn’t good and now that she knew I was married to Liam, I was sure she’d hate me even more. Back then, she would provoke me by flaunting all the ways she was better than me.
Even before she was with Liam, I never understood why she hated me.
Meanwhile, I only ever felt jealous of her because she got all the attention—but I never hated her.
"Today I want to stay home," I said, trying to avoid having to see her.
"You think you can do that?" He takes a few breaths before speaking again. “You’re coming to the hospital to give your blood again. Sophia needs it.”
He reminded me of my place.
I should have known, I wasn’t going to the hospital to congratulate Sophia or pretend to be sweet with her like we were close. Of course it was about her… the blood.
I stare at him. My heart is beating so roughly. I was still frozen as he grabbed my hand.
"Hurry up."
He pulled my hand, that’s driving me to blank. I followed him and a second later I was already in the car. The whole ride there I just sat in silence, even when the nurse called the doctor.
The voices around me echoed in my head.
"Sophia just woke up from her coma. I don’t want you to meet her or do anything."
I looked slowly into his eyes, wasn’t able to respond. He didn’t know—I didn’t want to see Sophia either. And his opinion of me was always so terrible.
What did he think I was going to do to the woman he loved so much?
Yes, I get why he treated me like this, because he hated me.
Despite all that, I wished that just once, he’d look at me gently after I gave my blood for Sophia.
I had done so much.
I got off the hospital bed roughly—a bit of courage rose up in me. “I’m glad she’s awake. So I don’t have to give her my blood anymore.”
"She needs to be completely healthy, so take care of yourself."
I glanced at him briefly, feeling bitterness as I walked away from him. The fact is, he once forced me to eat certain foods to keep my blood ‘good enough’, until I ended up throwing it all up again.
My vision blurred as I walked, holding onto the wall for support as I slowly and carefully moved forward. Just like before, my body was being pushed too far just to give her blood. And all I ever got back was his cold cruelty.
Sometimes I wonder what a marriage full of love would be like.
Walking out of the hospital, I got a phone call from Sean.
"Amelia, you didn’t forget our plan, did you?"
I held my forehead. “Yeah.”
Honestly, I had almost forgotten about it — I’d been thinking about just going straight home to rest and secretly pretend I was still strong.
I clear my throat.
"I’ll pick you up." His voice was clear and warm.
He came so fast, I didn’t expect it to take less than ten minutes. He even jogged over to me after getting out of his car.
His eyes seemed to light up. “Amelia, are you okay?”
I was still at the hospital, waiting out front.
"Yeah."
Sean took my hand. “Then why are you here?”
I gave him a small, faint smile as I answered his question. “I was just getting a checkup.”
I wasn’t sure if he believed my answer, because when we were in the car, he kept glancing at me now and then.
I broke the silence between us by speaking. “Sean, I’m going to divorce my husband.”
His face looked genuinely shocked as he heard what I said. Those words weren’t light, but I’d thought about them over and over, even before Sophia woke up. This marriage I was in is f*****g hurt.
And I should have ended it a long time ago.
"Are you serious about that, Amelia?" he asked. “Didn’t you love your husband so much?”
Every day I kept hoping for some miracle—but it never came. The pain just kept growing inside my heart.
I take a long breath. “I did love him very much,” I admitted, adjusting my seat. “Can you help me, Sean?”
