Chapter 2 Friends

Selene’s POV

I make it to school on time, I thank the moon goddess for that I don’t think I can afford dad getting angrier at me. I see my friends right outside our school.

Our school is the middle of our city. A sunken city to be exact that fell under the sea thousands of years ago, but it’s still just as beautiful

The classroom is a large, open space made of coral and translucent shells, with natural light filtering in from the ocean surface. The School is surrounded by a coral reef and there’s a kelp forest on the sides, for lighting Theres bioluminescent plants that light up and illuminate the space during darker hours of the night. It’s beautiful and it’s what I’ll miss the most when I leave the kingdom.

“Sel!!” Melodys voice filtered through the crowd she swam up to me with a huge smile on her face. she is the daughter of Haynes one of the leading guards in our kingdom. She’s beautiful with tanned skin and long brown hair her pink tail also gives her a nice contrast to her features

“Hey!” I said wrapping her up in a tight hug

“What’s wrong you look upset?”

“I am my dad found out about my French test and completely freaked out about it and to top it all off Aeron decided to tell him I’ve been hanging out with Zach and now he’s going to have a” I air quoted “talk with him” “and he will probably never talk to me again because you know my dad he doesn’t want me talking to siren men” I frowned

“Oh goddess I’m sorry Sel is there anything I could do?” I shook my head “no there’s nothing I’m also grounded until further notice” I sighed she rubbed my arm thoughtfully

“I’m sorry Sel I know it’s not ideal but the king has a point you shouldn’t be hanging out with Zach he’s not of your rank and he’s not you mate”

I scoffed “Ranks don’t mean anything to me and you know that, and as for my mate we aren’t doing anything” I said waving my hands she frowned slightly “You guys have kissed” she said

“One time, we got carried away” I said defensively “one time leads to many times and before you know it you’ll be dating and if the king finds out your dating him it could go really bad for him” she says pointedly. I exhaled slowly “Your right I guess I wasn’t thinking of the consequences” I muttered

She gave me another hug “Wait for your mate, it will be worth the wait” she said shyly

“Oh you say that because you already turned 17 and found your mate I still have 3 months to go before I can even recognize mine” I retort

she smiles shyly “I know but I know what I’m telling you your mate will be unlike any other man you meet” she smiles and with that our conversation ended Mrs.Harlington came waltzing in to teach us history we all sat in our chairs with our tails facing forward listening tentatively at what she taught. .

At lunch time I met up with zach we stood behind the school and I pulled him to the side to talk to him. He has the prettiest green eyes and brown hair he’s lean but has muscle on his arms and a 6 pack he’s a boyish kind of cute

“Aeron told my dad about us hanging out” I muttered

“s**t! What did the king say?” Zach replied worriedly

“He’s not happy about it in fact he says he’s going to have a talk with you” he sighs

“It’s okay Sel!” He pulls me under his arm gently

“Maybe it’s time we tell him about us, so we’re not sneaking around ill beat him to it and I’ll talk to him personally” my eyes widened in shock this is not what I expected “He’s furious we’re spending time together and your going to upfront tell him we want to date” he shrugs “I’m willing to I truly believe we are mates Sel, of course we can’t be sure yet I want him to know early on how I feel about his daughter” I blush at his words.

he kisses me gently I stay tucked in under his arm until our lunch bell rings signally the ending of our break. I pull away from Zach “I’ll see you later then?” He nods “Definitely” he grins at me and I head to my next class.

Before I know it school is over I did discuss with Mrs.Benoit about raising my grade back up to an A+ she told me she couldn’t give me special treatment even if I was the princess but she could tell me I had another opportunity to raise my grade on our next quiz which is next week. I sighed that wouldn’t be fast enough I really wanted to attend the water games and watch the future warriors of our kingdom battle it out.

I actually would have loved to complete in the games myself but dad didn’t let me, although this time he had a good reason for it I’m Siren royalty and I’m stronger then most sirens, even though my stature is small in size, I’m a force to be reckoned with aside from being trained to fight since I was young

I also have powers unlike most sirens that just have there siren song. I have energy surges where I can shoot out lightening bolts on command, I can also control the weather I can summon hurricanes, and tsunamis if I’m not careful when wielding my magic. Dad and Aeron also have these abilities, Aeron however is still discovering himself in terms of what he can do he’s only 20. dad still thinks he has more powers dormant that he hasn’t unlocked.

I swim to our castle, the place I call my prison.. I mean my home, the castles exterior is made up of shimmering coral and glistening seashells, with a glowing irradiance that highlights the blue of the water, jelly fish tend to hang around here swimming gracefully around the castle walls their bodies creating a bioluminescent soft ethereal glow, Tall, spiraling towers rise from the ocean floor, some topped with delicate seaweed or barnacle-encrusted spires. The castle has large, arching gates formed from giant clamshells. The windows are made of shimmering sea glass allowing the soft light of the ocean surface to filter in, its beautiful even if I’ve lived here my whole life it doesn’t change the beauty of it all.

I swim into the castle hoping I can just slide right in without anyone noticing to my dismay dad is sitting right in front of the door waiting for me.

“Selene” my dads voice calls out

“Yes dad” I say quietly

“I’m sorry” he said running his hand through his long white hair

“For ?” I questioned

“For yelling at you I shouldn’t have been so upset this morning I do expect you to lift up that grade and your still grounded but I shouldn’t have reacted like that”

I sighed I could argue in this moment. Is he really that sorry if I’m still receiving the same punishment?

but I decided I wouldn’t argue with him I just nodded my head. “Is there anything else?” I muttered

“There is tomorrow morning I have a meeting with the Alpha king and I want you to come” I rolled my eyes crossing my arms over my chest “For what exactly?”

“To start getting associated with the outside kingdom your brother will need your help to run the kingdom who better to trust then family he might not always be able to attend meetings because he’s running the kingdom but you my dear can”

i huffed “ I told you dad the first few years of my adulthood I’m going to leave this place and travel the world afterwards when I’m done then I can be of help to him but until then..” my voice was cut off by the king himself “Silence Selene!! Get those ideas out of your head you must stay here and help out! This is where you belong”

he pinches the bridge of his nose “this exactly why you’re coming with me! I’m going to show you the ropes and show you how fun these meeting can be” he said with a smile I scoffed and swam back to my room “Fun my ass! Nothing is fun about those boring meetings ugh!”..
