"Kimora Martins I'm going to leave without you if you don't come down now." My mum shouted from downstairs.
Apparently her major reason for agreeing to come to Oakland with me was because she also got an invitation to the Christmas dinner.
Today makes it exactly two years since dad and Luther died. Christmas day of all days!!
What an irony right?!
I lost my last bits of Christmas spirits the day it all happened. But today is not the day to be sad, it's a day to snoop around and avenge their deaths.
"Kim!!" My mother yelled from downstairs once again. She sounded really excited for the party today and I was really happy for her, anything to keep her mind away from what transpired two years ago was healthy.
******************************************
"Wow! This is really exquisite." My mum exclaimed as we walked into the hall, where the event was taking place.
The party was already in full swing.
"Megan." A sophisticated-looking woman called out to my mother.
"Tracy. It's been a while. I had no idea you will be here. Nice seeing you once again." My mum said with her signature smile.
Remember Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians? That is the exact same vibe this Tracy lady was giving me. Classic but evil.
She and mum got into some boring fashion related conversation and I started looking around for a familiar face or anything out of the norm. As soon as I spotted Dimitri, I started walking towards him. I spotted bright blue hair not far away from Dimitri.
"Please don't let it be Darcy." I prayed silently. This night was not one for high school drama.
"Not going to say hello to zaddy. That's very rude Kim."
Really Fate. Really?
He just had to be at this party too. Is this doubling as some type of high school reunion?
Why does Miller have to be here?
"Sorry to burst your bubble, but you lack everything required to be a zaddy especially southward." A snarky comment was the only thing that will make him leave me alone.
"If I were you, I won't be so rude Kim. Don't forget I still have those pictures. And I'm still mad at you for leaving me drunk the other day." He said with so much confidence.
How slow could this asshole be?!
"You have nothing on me dumbass. And if I were you, I'd stay away from me so I don't get my ass kicked." I said in between giggles. I tapped his shoulder lightly and walked away.
The look of utter confusion on his face was priceless. I had been waiting to do that for quite a while now. One more burden off my back.
"Hey big guy." I said to Dimitri.
"Hey kiddo." He said trying his best to smile at me.
He looked tired and from the way he was tapping his foot impatiently, it was obvious this was the last place he wanted to be, especially today.
That makes it two of us.
"Anything interesting happened?" I asked picking up a fruit punch from the waiter's tray.
"Except from that girl who is not so discreetly eye r****g me, nothing so far." He said nodding to our left. There stood Darcy in all her bratty glory batting her lashes at my uncle.
Never thought she'll be into older guys, that's new.
"Disgusting." Dimitri and I muttered in sync.
"Jinx." We screamed together again before bursting out in fits of laughter.
"I miss them." He said with a sad smile after letting out a few more giggles.
"Me too. But that's why we are here tonight." I said more to myself than to him.
We stood in silence for a while before Dimitri excused himself to pick up a phone call.
"You good?" Someone said from behind me.
I turned back and was greeted by beautiful hazel eyes.
"You don't look too bad in a tuxedo." I said trying my best to sound nonchalant.
Who was I kidding?! Damon looked like a model straight out of vogue magazine.
"It takes more than that to bruise my ego." He said with a smirk. "But seriously though, are you okay?" He asked the concern back on his features.
"Yeah. I'm fine although I'll prefer being somewhere a little less crowded." I said looking at all the people in expensive designer clothing, myself included.
This was not my scenery at all, I guess I picked that up from my dad, he hated such events.
"There are rooms upstairs and down the corridor and there's even this really pretty fountain outside if you need some fresh air. I dont mind gracing you with my highly demanded presence." He said raising his shoulders.
I could not help but laugh a little. Damon was something.
"You wish. Although I think sitting for a bit would be do me good. These shoes are killing me." I said as Damon took my hand and started leading me away from the crowd.
"I don't even know why you guys bother wearing them." He said shaking his head.
As we got farther away from the crowd I began having the same feeling I had at the mall the day I went shopping but this time it was stronger. It was so intense, like danger was lurking around, very close.
I was trusting my intuition by following Damon.
He would not hurt me right? No, he wouldn't, I should not think that way.
"Kim are you okay?" Damon asked looking at me worriedly.
"Yeah I'm fine." I said with a forced smile.
We got upstairs and passed by some rooms because the doors were locked or they were already occupied by some horny rich kids who couldn't keep it in their pants.
"No funny business, okay Mister?" I said jokingly to Damon when we got to the front door of a room that seemed vacant.
"What do you mean he lost her?"I heard someone yell from the other side of the door.
I and Damon were about moving to another room because apparently this one was occupied by not so happy people.
"He said she and Dimitri were together but when he turned back to where they were standing they were both gone."
The other person responded making me freeze on the spot and Damon's hand tighten around mine.
"This is bullshit! The agreement was to get them both here this night. She was not meant to let the girl leave her side and she was meant to get Dimitri close too. Martins' daughter has what we need." The other man yelled again.
His voice sounded familiar, too familiar.
Why can't I just figure it out?
These were the people Dimitri talked about. I have to see their faces. I need to know. I have to call Dimitri.
Just as I pulled out my phone to call him, the lights went off and there was a loud crash.
Damon immediately pulled me to the next room which was empty and shut the door.
"Dimitri, hello?" I said as soon as he picked the call.
"Kimora you need to get the hell out of there right now." He sounded full of regret. "Damn it! Just tell me exactly where you are? I'm coming to get you myself. Please be safe kid." He said and I could not even imagine the guilt that was consuming him.
After telling Dimitri where I was, I cut the call and tried taking in deep breaths to calm myself down.
"What's going on?" Damon asked worried.
I didn't know what to say since I was not even sure what was going.
This whole party was a trap and we fell right into it.
There was another loud crash downstairs and a lot of people began screaming.
"Dimitri please be safe." I whispered under my breath as I thought of a million things that could go wrong before he gets to me.
