Chapter 4

|| DIMITRI's POV ||

My roar slipped out of my lips before I could stop them. The sound of her cries, and beating provoked my wolf to the point that the reaction came out unexpectedly. Everyone was stunned around me. Even Alpha Kendrick paused his action midway, shooting me a dangerous look. His side chick Zendaya furrowed at me with disgust. She didn't even bother to coax Raemon who was crying in her arms.

Alpha Kendrick growled at me with anger, his wolf appearing on the surface,

" What did you say?"

I forced myself to calm down and kept my head low though my wolf protested my act of respect. He almost went violently when I saw Oksana getting beaten by the Alpha. I replied in a hoarse voice, hanging my head low in submission,

" I...I am sorry, Alpha but our yard is full of neighborhood packs. If someone spots you hitting the Luna, they will spread rumors."

Alpha Kendrick appeared convinced by my words. He debated for a second before letting go of her. Relief washed over me strangely. But the doubt still lingered in my mind. I thought that I had hidden her news of going to the bar well. I wondered how the news came to him still. In the pack, no information was passed out without Beta's knowledge.

Alpha Kendrick sobered down, his fierce eyes still glaring down at Oksana. He said in a firm, determined voice,

" You are lucky that I have a considerate beta. Otherwise, I would have beaten you to death today."

Afterward, he walked onto me, said with a snort proudly,

" Thanks, bud! You are right! This b***h has ruined my mood. Let's get the guests!"

I gave him a fake smile, my eyes still lingering on Oksana on the floor. She was groaning and coughing miserably. A pain shot through my heart. As Kendrick walked past me, Zendaya followed her as well. She stopped for a second and gave Oksana a triumphant smirk. Just then I knew who was responsible for this Mascara.

As soon as they walked past the door, I rushed to Oksana, gently lifting her by her arms,

" Luna..you.."

Oksana snapped at me, throwing my hands off,

" STAY AWAY FROM ME!! "

I was too stunned to speak, a little taken aback by her words. Her teary fierce eyes were glaring at me with hatred. She continued, choking on her tears,

" YOU ARE BEHIND THIS! I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN! I SHOULD HAVE NEVER TRUSTED YOU! YOU TOLD EVERYTHING TO KENDRICK. I ADMIT THAT I WANTED HIM TO KNOW... BUT NOT TODAY...IN FRONT OF MY SON! YOU RUINED EVERYTHING, DIMITRI!"

I swallowed hard after listening to her accusations. Each word from her cut deep through my heart. Raemon ran to his mom, fell into her arms, and started to cry loudly.

Why did it bother me so much that she didn't trust me?

I was the beta of this pack, destroying a whole bunch of wolves alone. I was f*****g loyal to my Alpha only but today I felt the crisis of my loyalty. His actions made me question so many things. For once, I wanted Luna to trust me instead of my Alpha.

I tried to speak again, the sound of Raemon's crying stabbing a knife to my heart,

" Trust me, Luna! This is just..."

" ALPHA IS CALLING FOR YOU, BETA!"

A guard reminded me from the background, interrupting our conversation. Before I had the chance to explain, Oksana crawled to the other side, hugging her son tightly. She kept staring at me with those murderous eyes. I held back my words, standing up to follow my duty as a beta.

|| OKSANA's POV ||

" Do...I look okay now?"

I asked Fiona in a low voice, touching my makeup. After hitting, I looked pale as hell. Fiona nodded with a weak smile, her eyes full of concern. The matter still hurt me when Dimitri informed Kendrick on this special day. I knew that he was f*****g loyal to his Alpha but it could have been done on a different day. My baby boy was so scared to witness the situation that he didn't even leave my side for once. I had to tell him lies, telling repeatedly that his father was playing only. From his childhood, he never showed any emotion to his father. Even Kendrick never gave him such space to bond their relationship. In his eyes, Raemon was just an heir who would carry out his duties in the future.

" Mama, you look so beautiful!", Raemon finally spoke, tugging on my legs. I squatted down to match his height, thanked kissing on his cheeks,

" Thanks love! Shall we go now?"

The smile on his face died down. Raemon looked troubled as if he was heading for a war. Raemon had no idea what an heir ceremony meant. Even I wasn't informed. All I knew was that they would do something to force Raemon's wolf out. As a pure-blooded Alpha child, he needed to turn eighteen. But I worried about my son's pain. I hoped that his wolf would show some hints at the very beginning to decrease the complications.

Raemon asked in his baby voice, his eyes full of tears,

" But..Mama.. what will they do with me? Will they play with me.. as Papa did with you?"

I shook my head with a fake smile, trying my best to encourage my son,

" No, baby! Nothing will happen to you. Your father will be there. They just want to know that you are strong enough to lead the pack. You are a brave boy, aren't you?"

Raemon still appeared hesitant but he gave me his final nod, mumbling in a weak voice,

" I will be strong for you, Mama!"

Tears sprung from my eyes. No one had ever talked about protecting me. From my childhood, I was always the abandoned one, a burden to those people whom I loved. Wiping the tears from my eyes, I held his small hands out, guiding him out to the stage,

" Let's go, baby. They are waiting."

The yard was full of wolves today. Kendrick made quite an exaggerated arrangement for everyone to show off his son. Dimitri walked ahead to take Raemon from me, our eyes not meeting. I hated him to death today. Because of him, Raemon had to see what kind of weak mother I was.

Dimitri brought Raemon to the center of the yard, our pack members chirping happily. I stood dumbstruck and nervous. Fiona showed the next moment, rubbing my back,

" Don't worry, Luna. He is a strong boy."

I couldn't hold back my curiosity. Parting my lips to exhale nervous breathing, I blurted in a low voice,

" What will they do Fiona?"

Fiona replied shortly, her voice low and careful,

" Raemon is only a boy now. I am guessing that they will ask his wolf to show dominance. His wolf will have the same eye color as Alpha Kendrick. If his eyes showed color and dominance, they will consider it done. It's just my thoughts, Luna. The process can be different."

I took an uneasy gulp subconsciously. Only once I met Kendrick's wolf who had bright brown and reddish eyes. Each Alpha had unique eye colors according to their dynasty. As for Raemon, I never tried to know his wolf, considering his young age.

Kendrick began to speak loudly, his tone hinting at pride and arrogance,

" Everyone!! Meet my son, Raemon DeVille, the future Alpha of this pack. Today we have gathered here to announce my son as the next heir. Let's take a moment to bow to my dominant little Alpha."

He then turned his attention to Raemon, ordering in a sweet yet dominating voice,

" Raemon! Show off your wolf! Show them who is the dominant Alpha here!"

Raemon looked scared as he hung his head low, not doing anything. Kendrick this time shouted, his tone getting pitchy than before,

" RAEMON!! I COMMAND YOU TO SHOW YOUR WOLF OUT!!"
