Chapter 2 Katie Rogers threw her cell phone on the passenger seat and sped through the deepening snow. In the rear seat, her German Shepherd mix gave another of those jaw-splitting hacks, like she was trying to cough out her own back feet. A sharp smell of urine filled the car. “Hang on, Golly girl! Almost there!” She urged the car faster, even though the tires were starting to slip in the curves. The headlights tried to pierce the snow, but the view through the windshield was like the Millennium Falcon going into hyperdrive. And there it was.
