ISABEL'S POV. It was morning, and I hadn’t slept a wink after what happened the previous night. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t make sense of it. The way Leo had acted—it couldn’t have been him. I was convinced that he’d been under some kind of possession. When Leo spoke, the shadow that had filled the room vanished instantly. I could sense its departure as it left. But what I couldn't understand was why it had left so abruptly. Was it because of Leo—or whatever it was that was happening to him? What unsettled me the most was how, as soon as the ghost disappeared, Leo returned to normal. He had fallen back asleep, utterly unbothered, as though none of it had ever happened in the first place.
