ISABEL'S POV. My shoulders sagged in defeat at his words but I nodded anyway. I tried, and tried again, just like elder Lowell asked me to and each time I failed miserably. Until suddenly I felt something. For the first time since I started this ritual about an hour ago, I actually felt something. It was like a bolt of energy shooting through me. The intensity of it made me gasp, tears spilling down my cheeks. “Good,” Elder Lowell said, his voice sounding a little distant. “Hold onto that connection, Isabel. Don’t let it go.” I nodded, concentrating with everything I had in me. I didn't know what was going on, but I could feel him now. His strength, his fear, his pain. It felt like I was feeling all of his emotions and I could feel that he'd lost his way. I could feel his frustration.
