Chapter 1
Esmeralda was a sweet, kind girl, living in the blood coven with her mum, Morgan. Her long brown hair, a small button nose, piercing green eyes, and a small frame. This surprises many as she is half a werewolf. But she doesn't know how she is, she just doesn't understand how.
She has no memories of her dad, only her mum. Her mum only ever says, "You have to stay away from your dad to stay safe." As a child, she just felt he must be a rouge and a bad wolf. That scared her as she had learnt about rouges in school.
You see, Esmeralda's first memory is her mum crying in the back of the car. This car she didn't know any of the witches then, but she does now. Her mum had Esmeralda's head on her lap while she screamed for her dad. This confused her just as much. If her dad was so bad, why did she cry so much? Even though Esmeralda is now 6, she remembers that day and feelings that won't be answered for nearly 20 years.
Not long after that, her mum got really fat just as quickly as she lost weight. They had to sneak away with the help of Mrs Brown. She was different. She was Esmeralda's potions teacher, unlike the other teachers. Some of what she taught was kind. She paid special attention to Esmeralda and would encourage her to use her wolf side. Which the high priestess never liked her doing.
The witches in her coven didn't even like mixing with other witches. To Esmeralda, this was strange even at a young age. It was as if she knew they could mix and be happy. But as her mum says, "she's a child and has a lot to learn." She always wanted to learn and understand everything around her.
"Good morning, Mrs Brown." Esmeralda said, excited as today as many before Mrs Brown would take her on a trip to the edge of the coven to teach her spells. She didn't have friends as sadly all the parents didn't want her to be played with because she was half wolf.
"Morning moonflower." This was her nickname from Mrs Brown and her mum to remind her of her wolf side. "Are you ready for today?" Esmeralda started bouncing on her toes, as this was a secret. Only her mum and Mrs Brown knew that she was getting extra lessons. Her mum liked that she was getting extra lessons. I think she worried about Esmeralda getting lonely, especially as her wolf come in as they're pack animals.
"Mrs Brown, can we talk about mummy?" She asked with no longer perky and seriousness. Mrs Brown had to hide her smile as it always made her laugh how this 6 year old talked like a 60 year old. Looking at her eyes as well didn't help as she gave a cross look as she noticed the smile and taking so long to answer. Mrs Brown cleared her throat to help her. "Of course, moonflower. Is she OK?" She shocked her head as she walked to her desk.
The day was nearly finished, and Esmeralda was so excited, but at the same time, sad. Mrs Brown hated to see this poor child, who won't have an easy time in the next few years, struggle so much. The classroom was clear, and Esmeralda jumped out of her seat. "You're ready to go, I see." Mrs Brown stated. Esmeralda just nodded. Something was really managing to stop her happiness.
As they reached the stream around the coven, they knew it was safe to talk. "Esmeralda, is everything OK?" Mrs Brown asked, looking at the little girl who's usually running around, but today is holding her hand.
"Aunty." She said with a said tone. "How did your sister die?" Mrs Brown was taken back by this. Her sister was Morgan's Great grandmother, it was too painful for them to mention her. So why has this small little girl suddenly brought her up?
"Moonflower, why do you ask?" Mrs Brown had to understand where the question came from before she could answer it. She wiped the tear, slipping out of her eye. Her worry was Esmeralda seeing how this had affected her as their fates would be similar. That's the worst part of being a descendant of Sarah Carter. How could she prepare her? That's why she wanted to prepare her, as they would have to fight their way. But she's too young to know this yet.
"The High priest came to see Mum last night." His preparing her mum. Mrs Brown could only hope she could get them away before the worst happened. "He said that you knew how important it I for mum. That they can feel the bubble weakening. And if she didn't understand true sacrifice to talk to you about your sister."
Mrs Brown is now crying. She believed their way was the right way. But this bubble takes someone she loves every few years. As witches can live to at least 400, it feels every few years. Really, it's only every 15-25 years. If she doesn't succeed this time at getting them out of here and keeping them away, they will get them. Just as they got her sister. The worst is how they say they keep the blood line pure.
The high priestess and priest are actually Mrs Brown's great aunty and uncle. The priest is in the blood line. Before the girls are taken and the rituals preformed they must have a boy and girl. My mum was different she had just 2 girls, and my sister had it the worst. From the day she turned 16. If Alpha George hadn't been visiting the pack, it would have been the same for Morgan. Mrs Brown helped her escape with him. They had tried to get to her for years. It was only when he had to hold the meeting for all the united covens, packs, etc. They found her, Mrs Brown's heartbroke, seeing her return with her daughter. Then, he found out she was pregnant again. But we got that baby to safety.
"Aunty, did I say something wrong?" This poor baby doesn't know what's coming for her if I don't manage to get her to escape. How do I tell her everything thats happened.
"I tell you what, ask me again next year. You need to be a little bigger for this story." She meant what she said. But was unsure if she would ever want to tell her precious niece the whole truth. Because her future would be similar to her sister's if her plan failed. She made her sister a promise that when she could save the younger generation, she would.
Thinking about the year coming up to the ritual was awful. How her sister was treated and finding out the truth about her children. Her nephew was still her in the coven. Her niece went through the same ritual just as most first-born girls did. Morgan was the first she thought to be safe, but soon, she was returned. With the girl, but not the high priestess and priest ideal girl. When Morgan first arrived, they moaned that Esmeralda wasn't full blood. But as the apparent bubble weakened, they didn't seem to care as much.
They were all taught what Sarah Carter did that day as a part of their history. But it was over 400 years, and no one could be alive in that bubble anymore. As Mrs Brown is honest with herself, she knows it's more enjoyment for them. That's what makes it sicker, and the thought she could lose more to it made her angry.
"Esmeralda, are you ready to learn?" She asked her, reaching their spot.
