I made the call to Terry and told him to bring everyone back tonight. With the protection of the club and the mafia, the kids — our kids — will be safe.
“You were born to lead,” Chase says as we sit in the main room, my head resting on his shoulder and our fingers entwined as we wait for the kids and women to come back.
“Yeah, but you know how much hard work it is even if you were in the role for twenty-four hours.” I say and he chuckles before kissing my forehead.
“Yeah, it’s exhausting. I was never cut out for leadership. It never thrilled me. I’m happy doing what I do.” He says and I chuckle and we settle into a calm kind of quiet as we wait eagerly for the kids to arrive.
