Jaxon decided he was going to try to think like the psychopath, even without the drugs. This was an old mining town, which meant that there were most likely abandoned mine shafts. While he knew that he could possibly be wasting time, this was the only lead he had. It made sense that the killer would be hiding in the mine shafts, because no one even lived over that way, and there was less chance of anyone spotting anything.
