Chapter1
POV Hannah.
"Did I manage to get pregnant, Doctor?" My eyes sparkled as I looked at the doctor sitting in front of me. My smile spread perfectly.
I hoped that God would grant my five-year prayer to bless me with a child in my womb.
Dr. Helena sighed heavily. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Hannah. This time, you failed again because your uterus is very weak, making it impossible for you to get pregnant."
My smile faded. I bowed my head in sadness. Once again, I had to swallow my disappointment.
I couldn't even count how many times I'd undergone in vitro fertilization.
"The symptoms you're experiencing are stress-related. I'll prescribe some tranquilizers to help you relax."
I nodded weakly. Tears fell onto my lap. Once again, I failed to bring happiness to my husband, Alejandro Conner. And today was our fifth wedding anniversary.
I had wanted to surprise him because he desperately wanted a son to be his heir.
For Alejandro, life without a child was a disgrace. I felt guilty and useless as his wife.
"Thank you."
After picking up the prescription, I decided to stop by my favorite bakery to buy a heart-shaped cake and some candles.
I needed to mend our strained relationship. Ever since the doctor told me two years ago that it would be difficult for me to get pregnant, Alejandro's attitude had drastically changed. He became very distant and often ignored me. He even loved his work more than he loved me.
Especially after he secured the contract with Ambrose Corp on the Golden Vista project, he hadn't come home for almost a week.
Although it hurt, I tried to understand. Alejandro must have been just as devastated as I was and was trying to forget his sadness by burying himself at work.
That's why I was determined to restore harmony in our marriage, just like before.
I often did sweet things to reignite Alejandro's fading love, like giving him a cake every year on our anniversary.
I wanted to leave precious memories for Alejandro on each anniversary.
A few minutes later, my car stopped in front of the lobby of Conner Corp, Alejandro's company.
Before going in, I gazed with pride and admiration at the luxurious building. Since we got married, Conner Corp had climbed to the fifth spot among the largest companies in the USA.
I was very proud of Alejandro because I also played a role in his success. My father's support had made it all possible. My father owned Baxlor Corp, the second-largest company in the USA. That's why I was confident Alejandro would never leave me.
As I entered, all the employees greeted me as I passed by.
I took the elevator up to Alejandro's office and met Nora, his secretary.
"Is Mr. Alejandro inside?" I couldn't hide the smile on my face. My cheeks flushed. I missed Alejandro so much.
“I-I'm sorry, Mrs. Conner. Mr. Alejandro can't be disturbed right now because he's in a meeting with the company's top executives." Nora seemed nervous and panicked, looking at me as if she'd seen a ghost. She kept glancing at the door to her boss's office.
"When will he be finished?" I swallowed my disappointment once more.
Alejandro was a workaholic, often forgetting everything else, including our anniversary.
I understood because Alejandro had to manage two companies simultaneously—Conner Corp and Baxlor Corp. Since my father had his accident two months ago, I asked Alejandro to lead Baxlor Corp temporarily until my father recovered.
Still, I couldn't deny the loneliness in my heart.
"Alright. I'll wait until he's done with his meeting." I decided to sit on the couch in the waiting room.
“I-I think you should go home and rest, Mrs. Conner. I'm worried your condition might worsen.”
“Condition? What do you mean? I’m not sick at all.”
“A-are you sure?” Nora seemed uneasy. “But Mr. Alejandro said you had uterine cancer, which made it hard for you to get pregnant.”
I was shocked, then chuckled. “That’s not true. You must have misunderstood. Alejandro would never say that.” Even though our relationship had become strained, I was certain Alejandro loved me deeply.
"Ah, Babe. Harder! Faster! It's so good!"
Suddenly, I heard a woman's moans of pleasure coming from Alejandro’s office.
"Whose voice is that?" I slowly moved toward the door, but Nora quickly blocked my way.
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Conner, but you’re not allowed to go in. Please respect Mr. Alejandro’s privacy.”
“Privacy? I am Alejandro’s wife,” I asserted. My feelings were mixed as I listened to the strange woman’s moans.
Who was this woman? If they were in a meeting, why was she moaning?
“But Mr. Alejandro ordered it. He’d fire me if I failed to do my job. Please, try to understand,” she pleaded.
I grew irritated by Nora’s persistent attempts to stop me.
“Step aside, please.” My voice was soft but firm.
"But—"
“He won’t fire you just because I went into his office.” I tried to reassure her.
Without waiting for Nora’s response, I barged in.
My eyes widened, and my mouth fell open. The paper bag with the cake dropped from my hands and shattered.
“Hannah?!” Alejandro hurriedly put on his clothes, as did the beautiful woman he’d just slept with.
“What are you doing?!” I screamed in anger, trying to contain the pain in my heart.
It felt like the world was collapsing on me as I caught my husband having s*x with another woman on the couch.
“Who is she, Alejandro?! Why are you having s*x with her?!”
“How dare you enter without permission, huh!” Alejandro shouted. “Where are your manners?!”
I was stunned. "Manners?!" It felt like I was struck by lightning at his words. "How dare you ask about my manners after you betrayed me!”
“Shut up! I don’t want to argue with you!” Alejandro pointed to the exit. “Now leave! I’m busy!”
“Busy?!” I laughed bitterly, tears streaming down my face. “Has cheating been your ‘business’ all this time?!”
Alejandro remained silent. I glared at the blonde woman with green eyes who stood frozen, her head bowed.
"Is it because of this b*tch that you haven’t come home all week, huh?"
I approached the woman and slapped her with all my strength. “How dare you sleep with my husband, you slut! Are there no other men in the USA that you had to take mine?!"
“Stop it, Hannah!” Alejandro instinctively pushed me away, nearly causing me to fall, then stroked Camilla’s cheek.
“Are you hurt, Darling?”
I was at a loss for words. I was the one most hurt, yet Alejandro was more concerned about her.
Camilla winced slightly. “My cheek really hurts.” She leaned her head on his chest.
"Fu*k!" I yanked Camilla’s hand away from my husband’s embrace, causing her to stumble against the wall.
“Argh!” The impact echoed through the room. Camilla crumpled to the floor, clutching her stomach.
I was shocked by her reaction. I swore I didn’t push her that hard, but she acted like she’d just been hit by a truck!
“Fu*k off!”
SLAP!
“Argh!!” I spun around as Alejandro slapped me hard. My body hit the floor with a thud, making my head spin.
Alejandro glared at me. “How dare you hurt my lover! She’s carrying my child! If you ever hurt her again, I won’t hesitate to end you! Apologize to her, now!”
My heart felt like it was being pierced by thousands of arrows. Pregnant? That meant they’d been sleeping together often. How could I have been so stupid to trust Alejandro when he said he was busy with work and couldn’t come home?
I struggled to stand, pain radiating through my body, and looked at Alejandro in fury. "That b*tch deserved it!”
“You!” Alejandro instinctively raised his hand to slap me again, but Camilla quickly grabbed it.
“Calm down, Darling. I’m okay. You shouldn’t hurt her.” Camilla pleaded, making me want to vomit. “Have pity on her. She’s also a woman.”
“Stop acting like an angel, Darling.” Alejandro groaned softly. "She hurt you. I can’t let that slide!”
My chest tightened, and my eyes burned, but I held it back. I couldn’t let them see me cry, especially when Alejandro was more concerned about his mistress.
"I don’t need your pity, you slut!" I spat.
“Stop calling Camilla a slut, Hannah! Didn’t you hear what she just said? She’s still defending you, even though you’ve been cruel to her!" Alejandro yelled angrily.
“Cruel?!” I laughed bitterly. "She seduced you, and you expect me to thank her?”
“She didn’t seduce me! I wanted her! You should blame yourself! I wouldn’t have cheated if you could give me a child!”
Alejandro’s words cut deep into my heart. I never thought he would say such hurtful things to me.
“You’re a failure as a woman! I wouldn’t have married you if you weren’t a billionaire’s daughter!”
I tried not to cry in front of that jerk, but damn it, I failed again. My tears fell, soaking my cheeks. I must have looked so pathetic.
“I only married you to steal all your father’s partnerships! I’ve been pretending to love you this whole time!”
I swear Alejandro’s last words hurt more than anything about the child.
Alejandro grinned with satisfaction. "Now I've captured all of your father's partnerships and made my company successful enough to beat Baxlor Corp! Now I don't need you anymore! I'm divorcing you, right now! Now get out of here! I never want to see you again!"
My world was so shattered that I couldn't cry anymore. I turned to Camilla, and she grinned mockingly at me.
