The hunter shook his head in answer to Crystal’s question. “Why ever would we want to sacrifice one of our own? No, it’ll take a great deal of power. All the hunters from dozens of villages would need to work together to bring it about. Which is why we need so many to agree. Hundreds of us will need to participate.”
“What about all the worlds we could visit?” Keeley protested. “There are so many things we could learn from them.”
“Hunters aren’t dragons. We don’t have the same need to travel to unknown places that you have,” the hunter stated.
“Maybe you don’t,” Cort pointed out.
The hunter met Cort’s gaze. “Very few hunters feel the need to travel beyond their own lands. We’re satisfied with our lives. With our own hunting grounds. With the forests of our ancestors.”
