Chapter 4

1141 Words
All his life, Jason was trained to kill. He started carrying out hits at the age of thirteen and now that he's twenty-one years old, he is one of the greatest hitmen alive, a treasure to the Diablos, who he identifies with. He is also the Baron's son, master of various assassination techniques, but clueless when it comes to protecting anyone but himself. "Father, who is this person I'm to protect?" He asks, hoping that from the old man's response, he'll understand what's going on. "She is your wife." He replies, with a cold calm tone. His wife? How did he go from a single playboy just now, to a married man? I'll tell you. --------------- Everything happened the day after The Diablo Mafia saved my dad, David Croft, from a death they would have brought upon him for being at the wrong place at the right time, he decided to join their family, for the sake of his father and the Croft Dynasty. To him, it was the best decision to make, but he needed to solidify his agreement with something valuable. "What's more valuable than a life?" He thought, before agreeing that when I become of age I'll get married to the Baron's son. To him he was doing the best for me, so what could go wrong? Sadly, a lot of things went wrong later on. ------------------- Anyways, I'm still locked up in the police station, while Baron Dominique tells Jason about me. Jason, immediately knew his task would not be easy, sighing deeply after which he asks, "Would Garbage Men Incorporated assist me?" They were an elite part of the Diablos, that did all the Mafia's dirty work, moving it from a business of one country to a worldwide. It is the big guns. "Normally, I wouldn't permit that, nevertheless, based on the situation of things right now, you will need all the help you can get." He responds, having a seat afterwards. Jason, feels insulted for some reason and is moved to ask, "What's so special about this girl that I need backup?" "I bet it will be a quick in and out." He asserts confidently, making the old man laugh for the first time in days. "I can give you an A for moxie and ability, but you are dealing with a Croft here, the last surviving Croft to be precise." He confesses, holding up a picture and staring at it as he continues. "The reason why the girl stayed silent so long is because no one knew her. I only know about her whereabouts because of some of our units in Mexico." "Sadly, once everyone knows who she is and where, it would be a battle to get her. A battle that'll shake the foundations of the world." The Baron is sure of the chaos, but. Jason isn't, deciding to ask one final question. "What do you mean Chaos, father?" " Well, right now the girl is at the station, no one knows she is there except the concerned, like me." He says calmly, to help his son understand what he is trying to say. "For now she is safe because she is not on the news, but by Eight PM, there will be a TV program about crime that will reveal her identity to everyone watching." Jason gets it now, "She's a high-value individual in the criminal underworld and we need to secure her before anyone else does." "I can do it, father." -------------------- Now to me at the station. I've written statement upon statement, explaining what happened. I've done tests and my details have been taken. It's getting late and it's starting to look like I won't be going home today. I just hope my aunt isn't too worried by now. "Hello, Lisa." A feminine voice calls to me, prompting me to lift my bowed head and stare at the woman standing in front of me. It's the officer who read me my rights, nevertheless, she is behaving differently, cooler than before. She signals me to come over to her, so I do, hoping that my obedience will get me home. "Okay Lisa, I'm guessing we started on the wrong foot, I'm Officer Kimberly." She says, beaming with smiles, pausing to see if she can get a reaction but since she gets nothing, she continues. "I went through the details you provided and I also went to check out the crime scene, only to discover something wasn't right." Now this got my interest, hence I increased my attentiveness with the hope that what she is about to say will get me off the hook. Most of the people who were locked up with me for other things had been released, leaving me alone here. That worried me, she could tell. "I know I shouldn't be telling you this, but I took your case to the higher-ups." She began; lifting my hopes a bit. "We all know you shouldn't be behind bars, yet they keep you here, refusing to let you go. Meaning someone wants you here." I thought as much, she was here to waste my time, but I didn't have the desire to respond to her. Instead, I just turn away from her and head back to my seat depressed. "I'll get you out of here, I promise." Another batch of empty words she leaves for me before heading out. "She might actually be a good person." I thought. Watching her leave, I long for my comfy bed, at least until I notice she stops at the door, her and everyone else, because their attention is on the TV. A crime show was on, where they analyze the profiles of criminals and scumbags. I used to love the show, until the murders this morning made me a cover star. Right now they are accessing what happened this morning, linking it to the murder of the crime Kingpin, David Croft, years back. The news stuns me too, as prior to this night, I didn't know my dad had Mafia ties, him and my mom. Unfortunately for me, they can now say I was involved in Mafia activity that got Jeff killed. All eyes in the room are now on me, as everyone stares at me with disdain. They are probably killing me in their heads right now and won't believe I'm innocent now. Honestly, that's not what should matter to me, what should matter to me is the fact that the show just gave the world every single detail about me that could be gathered, and the station is about to become a war zone. ------------------- "Yes boss, we've found her, the last surviving Croft. We want to handle this with caution but that might not be necessary since she is only a cub." .... "Just grab her before things get messy."
