She touched Tenskwatawa’s forehead with her hand and he faded from sight, having disappeared through the strands of time. Mab turned away from us and walked back toward the house. I watched for a moment and then squeezed Jeremiah’s and Renée’s hands tight. Being so tired, I needed to draw on their strength to open the dreamline. I had no words left to say. Tired, distraught, and longing for my daughter, I thought of home in my mind and felt my body fading. Before we vanished, I opened my eyes and could see a young Renée staring at Queen Mab who had not yet left on the dreamline. We disappeared but I did catch the young Renée’s cry of anguish as she saw her family’s remains. Yet she would find her younger sister still alive, but fragile and broken. I shut away thoughts of what we had seen
