Chapter 3: The Change

893 Words
After what seemed like hours, Lynn was finally done. We had arrived at my house and she had immediately pulled me to my room after waving a quick hello to my mother. She had pulled my hair out of the ponytail I kept it in permanently and grabbed some clothes out of her bag along with some makeup. When I looked in the mirror of our small apartment bathroom I hardly even recognized myself. I looked like I belonged as her friend. She had brushed and straightened my hair flat so i looked like one of those chic emo girls. There was eyeliner smudged under my eyes and dark eye makeup that made the green of my hazel eyes pop, and my lips had a red stain on them that was just the right amount. Lynn had changed my clothes as well giving me a bra that pushed my boobs up nearly to my chin, a low cut t-shirt with the brand of some band call My chemical romance on it (I made a mental note to look them up next time I had some time on the computer). I had refused to go anywhere in short sleeves and Lynn had understood when she look at my arms and the scars and healing cuts that were there. She had grabbed a thin long sleeve shirt , also with a plunging neckline, to put on under the t-shirt. I had on a pair of jeans that were ripped on all the right places making them look cool and not worn out and dirty and they fit so well that my flat butt didn't look so flat anymore. I didn't know what to say. I was beautiful and for the first time in my life I saw it. Lynn stood in the doorway, he ace wearing a wide grin. "Well?" She asked "I-I look amazing" I replied still stairing at myself in awe. "I know" she smiled even bigger as she inspected her nails. "We had better get going its 5:30 and the evening services start at 6." She handed me a pair of high heel boots to put on they were black leather that went to just under my knees and buckles on the side. The heels came to a wicked point and I look at her horrified. "I cant wear these!" I exclaimed and Lynn rolled her eyes. "Amanda they are shoes." She said exasperated "you'll wear them". "But I'll die! I'll fall break my neck and die." I said trying desperately to persuade her. "Fine" she said seeing I wasn't joking and handed me her combat boots. "Wear these" I slid them on quickly before she could change her mind and we were off. My mother was asleep so i didn't have to worry about her seeing me as i snuck through the living room with Lynn in tow. We left the small apartment and headed for the church. My stomach in knots the whole way. I couldn't help but wonder if Darrian would notice me now. Finally we arrived at the church it felt like the walk had taken years instead of minutes. When we got there some of the other teens were already there. Some of them were kids I went to school with. I didn't think these kids would go to church let alone realized they went to church here of all places. There was Falcon Minks another of the boys I had at one time been crushing on...hard. he was about my height with long hair dark hair that was always in his face he basically looked like an emo justin bieber, and he was a mean boy. In the fifth grade I had a huge crush on him but he had bullied me, calling me fat and telling me he would never want to date a cow like me. I had believed him so I left him alone, he was piling basketball with some other guys that I recognized. Remington Liberty, litterally the hottest and most popular guy in my school was also playing ball with Christian Cameron, Dylan Mason, Xavier Jones, and a few other guys I didn't really recognize. Falcon stopped mid shot when he saw us coming. "Hey Lynn!" He shouted "Whose your new friend she pretty hot!" He stopped dead when he got a good look at me "Whoa! Mandi the man?!? When did you get sexy?" I turned bright red and just kept walking. "Keep your head high" Lynn whispered "if you cant make it fake it till you do." And she turned to Falcon "she was always like this just took a little of the right" she paused "motivation to bring it out in her obviously you weren't it." She smiled sweetly as everyone laughed and Falcon turned beat red. We walked into the church and I felt like everyone was stairing at me. We signed in and grabbed our food, Lynn had gone ahead and I was in line by myself. "You look good" I turned to Darrian behind me. "Thanks." And I immediately hated myself for it. Thanks that's the best you could come up with? Really one word? "I liked you before though. You were real then now well your" he paused as if to try and word it without hurting my feelings. "Changed".
