Episode 4
The library had become Emilia’s sanctuary, but now it held something more a heartbeat she couldn’t ignore. Each day, she rushed past the tall shelves, not for books, but for the folded papers waiting like secrets only she was meant to find.
This time, when she opened the book, his letter was longer.
“I wonder who you are when you’re not writing to me. Do you laugh easily? Do you stay up late, unable to quiet your thoughts? Do you feel lonely in a room full of people the way I do? I shouldn’t ask if I don’t want to break the spell. But I can’t help it. Every word you give me feels like a gift I don’t deserve.”
Her eyes stung as she read. No one had ever cared to ask such questions, let alone with such tenderness. For a moment, she pressed the letter against her chest, as though it could steady the wild beating of her heart.
She wanted to answer everything. To tell him she stayed up too late, that she sometimes cried without reason, that his words made her feel less invisible.
But when her pen touched the paper, she hesitated. How much of herself was she willing to give a stranger?
Across campus, Adrian sat in the café, staring at the crowd, his mind lost in her silence. He didn’t know her name, but her absence would already feel unbearable.
