Blurb

Since Daisy opened her eyes to the world, she has only ever known suffering. Her mother barely survived her birth, only to die when she was three years, a mere cub.

Daisy’s father resented her for his mate death. The purity of a father’s love faded away only to be replaced with pure hatred making Daisy’s life hell on earth. Bullied in school by her peers and at home by her sister and father she spends her days dreaming of the day her mate will come and save her. Take her away forever.

People treated her like she was diseased, blaming her for the misfortune of her family. The bullying only got worse the older she got. Daisy never knew what friendship or love was. Even Martha her sister joined others to make her life hell.

On the last day of the winter solstice, the moon shines brightly shining light on a tired Daisy pushing through bushes, scratches all over her body but clutching her prize tightly in her hand, praying she got home in time to meet the celebrations. Her father had sent her on one of his many fools’ errands to keep her away from the party. Lost and confused, she missed her way, unknown to her it would change her fate forever.

Two pairs of glowing red eyes stared at her from the bushes. The air thick with a sickly-sweet scent of evil and dark sinister thoughts wrapped tight around her chest. Instead of panic and fear she felt strangely drawn to the scent. One brave step closer to the bushes, followed by a loud growl brought her senses back, turning on her heels Daisy ran in the opposite direction. Flowing silky dark hair in her wake.

Unknown to her, those pair of red eyes track her all the way home. Patiently, watching the quiet doe-eyed slender girl from the boundary of Stoneridge Pack.

Daisy has sealed her fate, she will be taken by the predators, their new toy...

1: The beginning.
DAISY’S POV I hear Jenny’s shrill screams followed by the sound of a table crashing hard against the wall. She is thrashing her room again. Only the goddess knows what went wrong now. The sound of rushed footsteps and the coarse baritone of father’s soothing voice reach my ears. “Calm down Pumpkin.” His placating voice, as he tries to calm my hysterical sister down. Here we go again. Riley cowers under the bed. His tail tucked under his legs; his big brown eyes look at mine in pure fright. Last summer, Jenny woke up one beautiful morning and got so angry when she saw her face covered in break-outs and pimples. She lost her mind and trashed her entire room and ripped open her bed. Dad had to soothe her and the next day he went into the market, bought fresh bed covers and fillings for her bed. In two days, it was good as new. Like nothing ever happened. Something crashes hard against the wall. Slowly, I stand to my feet. I hear hushed cursing and what sounds like my father scrambling around trying to catch her. Jenny is quick on her feet. I hear a frustrated sigh followed by approaching footsteps. My eyebrows shoot up, one quick peek at Riley, he blinks slowly. He hears it too. The hard knock comes a few seconds later. Rolling my eyes, I drag my feet across the cold tiled floors. Taking my time to reach for the door handle, I take a deep breath. Squaring my shoulders, I brace myself for whatever will happen once I open the door. Twisting the knob, I yank it open to reveal the aching familiar face of my father. Whenever we go to the stream, I overhear women talking about how much resemblance I bear to my late mother, some even argue that I look more like my father. Sometimes, I look at his face and see mine mirrored back. “Hi dad.” My voice is flat and emotionless. He just stands there; for a split second he says nothing, he watches me like he is not actually seeing me standing in front of him. “Did you take your sister’s new dress?” he asks me matter of fact. I guess it is straight to business then. I shake my head, no. My eyebrows scrunch up in confusion. “Are you sure you did not mistakenly have it mixed up in some of your stuff?” he looks over my shoulder into my tiny room. His eyes do a full sweep. Scanning the armchair in the corner, there is a heap of clothes there. Washed and unfolded. “I did not even know she had got a new dress.” I shrug halfheartedly. How is her missing dress my problem? “No need to get mouthy with me, young lady. Your sister is losing her mind over this dress. She wants to wear it today,” he frowns. His thick eyebrows twist into his signature disappointed look. His dark brown hair is all over the place like he has been running his hands through them. He is shirtless, only wearing brown khaki shorts. “Dad, what do you want me to do? I did not see a dress.” I sigh. Pushing my door open further. He eyes the pile like he wants to come in and rummage himself. I roll my eyes. “We don’t even wear the same size; can we be serious right now?” I give him a bemused look. He grunts and turns his back to me. “Come out and help us search. It should be lying around here somewhere,” he says just as another one of Jenny’s shrill screams hit my eardrums. I wince, even my dad bites hard on his bottom lip. That girl has a set of pipes on her. “Can you keep it down?” Shutting my door with a quiet thud. I know she hears me because she lets out a more furious scream. “You must have taken it, you jealous b***h. Where did you hide it?” her voice rises up. I follow behind dad, carefully entering her room after him. There is confetti, feathers and wood all over the place. My eyes are wide as saucers. How did Jenny manage to do so much damage in such a little time? We lock eyes. Hers narrow to slits. “What did you do with it?” she asks softly. Like a snake under grass, she slithers towards me. I look between her and dad. “Don’t be ridiculous. We do not wear the same clothes size, so what am I going to do with your dress?” I scoff. “Heaven knows!!!” she raises both hands in the air in frustration. I snicker. “When last did you see it?” I fold my arms across my chest, waiting for an answer. “Why? You fancy yourself a detective now?” she asks with a mocking sneer. “Do you want to find your dress? Yes or no?” I ask her pointedly. I rather be snuggled up with Riley not here listening to her annoying voice tell me what to do. She grunts, eyeing me up and down. “I am sure you stole it.” She grunts out coldly. Our father acts uninterested. He carefully gathers shattered wood off the floor. “Shut up with the accusations, Jenny. Okay?” I spit out at her. Her eyes widen in surprise. “Hey, Hey… do not talk to your sister like that.” Dad turns to me, his voice stern. “Wait why? So, she gets to call me a thief and I cannot tell her to shut her mouth up?” I ask, looking from her annoying brown eyes to an identical pair on the right. “She is having a hard time….” he starts. “You know what? I do not have to stand and listen to this. Goodluck in finding it, I am out of here.” I turn on my heels and head back to the comfort of my room. “Come back here! Dad, make her come back!!” Jenny screeches. I snort. Reaching my room, I shut the door behind me. Deep down, I know staying in the house for now is going to end up in more screaming matches. Jenny is out for blood this morning, and I am always her victim. One quick look in the mirror, my long dark hair is failing out of the messy bun I threw it in. Grabbing a comb from my nightstand, I run it through the long tresses. A few strokes to take the tangles out before I throw them back into the low bun. I opt for grey plaid shorts and a red tank top. The tank top hugs my slender frame, squashing my b-cup boobs. My long legs are exposed, I consider changing into a free short skirt. On second thought, I settle for my shorts. They feel more comfortable anyway. I grab Riley, tuck his small frame into my pouch, I sling the bag across my shoulder and head out. The noise outside has quieted. Our house is a three-bedroom house, a huge front yard and a garden out back. Dad and mother shared the master bedroom as a mated couple. Now it is just dad’s room. Jenny has the second-biggest room while I get the corner room. I love my room anyway. Tons of sunlight and the only window face the garden. A pretty view to wake up to during the summer days. Making my way through the kitchen. I contemplate grabbing an apple from the fridge on my way out. “Off into the woods to dilly-dally again.” Dad says blandly without looking at my face. He busies himself with setting up a fresh pot of tea. “Yes, but I will not be gone for long today.” I shrug. “Since you are headed there, grab me some poison ivy, oak roots and seaweed on your way back home.” Dad instructs me. “Okay Dad.” I nod. On second thought, I head over to the fridge, grab my shiny red apple and head out. The crisp cold air smacks me across the face. I forgot how windy it has been this week. It gets hotter during the day, but the mornings are chilly. A deep breath to prepare me for the adventure ahead. The sky is clear blue; the smell of rain hangs in the clouds like a taunt. Climbing down the front porch, I start my short journey. I follow the backyard, the path is narrow and bushy. The walk is about twenty minutes from our house. I take my sweet time, admiring the insects flying around landing on flowers and fruits. A ladybug lands on my arm. For the first time since I woke up this morning I smile. A real full smile from ear to ear. This is surely a good sign. Riley meows softly, I continue on my way. Soon, I come to the forest boundary line. Thick and tall trees stand like giants, daring me to venture into the ‘evil forest’. I push past the shrubs, the familiarity of the muddy earth, the dewy branches and damp leaves rub into my hair and skin as I push past. Soothing, the chirping of birds like music to my ears. The symphony of birds and frogs calling out to each other. The tight knot in my chest slowly loosens. The forest is my home. The home to all werewolves.
