1006 Words
Jill downed the remnant of his coffee as he pulled over at a garage, he parked his car properly and switched of the engine, he dropped the empty cup of coffee and took two full cups before exiting the car, he sighed and began to him a song he had heard few weeks back and had stuck in his memory. The stairway to his destination was right in front of him two minutes later and he began to gently yet carefully ascend the stairs, he walked slowly; one step after the other to avoid spilling the contents of the cup, two minutes later; he was standing at a doorstep and he rang the doorbell. "Come in." A petite voice answered from the inside. Jill smiled and twisted the doorknob and the door opened, the room was well furnished and he was welcome by the scent of freshly baked cookies, his nostrils flared up and he couldn't control the little excited growl that escaped his lips, the room was cozy so he announced his presence. "I'm here." Jill said in a singsong manner. "Took you long enough, did you bring the coffee?" The female's voice asked. "Yes, as your Ladyship ordered." Jill said and bowed slightly. The woman chuckled. "Bring them over." She ordered. "I see you've been up to some baking, anything to be worried about?" Jill asked concernedly as he offered her a cup of coffee. She took it from him and gave him a ghost of a smile, Jill shook his head, the woman in front of him knew well to hide her emotions and he was used to it, sometimes; he'd think she was a rare specie doing everything he never thought anyone could. "I was anxious and needed to brainstorm on something." The woman replied. "So you opted to baking some cookies to calm your nerves?" Jill asked knowingly. "Call it whatever you want." "I'm beginning to think you're weird." "Thanks for the compliment, help yourself to some cookies, we leave in the next ten minutes." "Why?" The woman stared daggers at him and Jill kept his mouth shut, he always found himself complying to whatever she said, she had an authoritative aura around her, she had dedicated her whole life to fighting for the rights of others and he couldn't help but wave off the feeling that it was more of a hunger which consumed get from within than just passion for others. "Jill, don't tell me you've forgotten why I called you over in the first place." "Of course I didn't Sarah, I just don't understand why you insisted I don't tell the others about it, it's kind of rare to fo things without their knowledge." Sarah chuckled as she threw a cookie in her mouth and munched loudly. "We're not keeping this a secret from them, I just want us to be sure before we tell them anything, I don't want to put them in danger so it would be better to check it out first, you're my right-hand man and you've had more experience in stuffs like this than any of them, you'd but agree that my reasons are logical." Sarah explained. "Fair enough, but how sure are we that this isn't a drill? Anyone could be pulling a prank on us or worse; this might be a trap, you been receiving more hate emails recently, we can't risk your safety for something we're unsure of." Jill said worriedly. Sarah gulped down what remained of her coffee, she frowned slightly as the taste didn't excite her taste bud, the coffee had gotten cold and lost its flavor in her mouth, she thrashed the cup and threw it in the waste bin just around a corner. "It's a lead, it's more than enough and besides; whether it's a prank or not we need more evidence to support our cause." Sarah said convincingly. "But it doesn't mean we should chase after the wild, we have better things to do." Jill argued. Sarah chuckled lightly, she walked past him and opened a drawer, she brought our a hairspray and applied it on her hair before proceeding to brush the almost tangled hair, Jill watched in amusement and packed few cookies into a portable luncheon. "Have you sent the news? Or read the newspaper today?" Sarah suddenly asked. "No, why?" Sarah sighed. "Yesterday, two werewolves were caught and traumatized, you had to see the fear and insecurity in their eyes, they reportedly disobeyed some rules which were obviously a lie and the government ordered that they be jailed and tortured to serve as an example to others." Sarah narrated. "That's not the first time something like that will happen, don't tell me you're been all sentimental for that." "Oh the contrary, I was also sorry for them but didn't pay much attention to it but gen a little kid ran to them, she was no older than four, she burst into tears and begged that her parents be released, her baby brother was in her arms crying as well, the parents struggled and tried to reach their children only for their heads to be blown off in front of their own kids and it was aired, do you know the trauma that child would be in right now?" Sarah questioned. Jill kept mute, digesting her words. "I've tried to reach out to the kids and told the rest of the team to find them as well and bring them over here to be with other kids, you know better than anyone what it feels like to see your loved ones die in front of you and you're unable to do anything, there are hundreds of such happenings that we know not about, do we then have the right to call a lead useless? I'm leaving, stay if you want." Sarah said decisively. Jill watched as Sarah switched off the lights in the house and wore a leather jacket, she was ready to move as she was determined and nothing would stop her.
