"I'm sorry." The doctor frowns. "You've lost the baby."
I stare at the doctor in shock as tears start to well up in my eyes.
"Pardon?" My voice fades to a whisper, a lump burning my throat.
"We are really sorry for your loss." She repeats, standing behind a nurse.
"I'm sure there must be a mistake!" I cry. "There has to be something you can do. Isn't that why you guys are doctors? To save lives! Save the life of my daughter! Please do it!"
"We really tried but there's nothing that can be done at this point."
I beat the tears from my eyes and turn to Erik and Alex, who are standing beside me.
"Talk to this doctor!" I snap. "She's clearly not listening to me! Tell her that my baby can't die! My baby is not... dead!"
