Viviene watch her in incredulity. She felt her sanity just escaped her mind. ‘What did I just do to have this mindless girl in front of me? Lets calm down and hear her first.’ “Lady Walmeir, how can you say that?” She inquire with a hint of offended by her assumption. “Why would I fake my condition?” She added. “You wanted me to suffer and be avoided by my friends and love ones before because you were jealous of me. And then you have this unknown illness all of a sudden. Is it because you wanted their attention so badly?” “Hah.” She laugh shortly and turn around to face her. “Seriously, have you gone mad or something? I wont deny the idea that I hated you and the others but feigning my illness is something I cant ignore.” She hissed as her eyes filled with anger and her smile scornful. “I just want you to ask forgiveness for the things you’ve done to me.” Eliza retorted. “You want me to apologize when you are not even sorry for your rudeness? Is that a new mannerism here in this empire? If it is, then alright, I am sorry for the things I’ve done before, but this will not change the truth that you are the jealous one right this instance.” “Me?” “Yes. You accused me of tarnishing your reputation without an evidence pointing that I really am that evil person and you’re pointing that I’m feigning my illness. Just how stupid are you?” “You’re being rude. I am not stupid!” “Then what are you? An ignorant child who does nothing but whine? And you even drag Sir Valor with your idiocy.” She mock and roll her eyes. “My illness isn’t something to joke around. And whatever rumors circling around you, I am not the caused of it but you. Right now you’re acting so immature and childish, wouldn’t that add to the rumors you’re complaining in front of me? You are the cause of your own downfall and not me!” She blurted. She didn’t answer and glared at Viviene. “Lady Walmeir, you are pretty but you are not wise. I pity you for that. Just to add a little of your petty understanding, I don’t need attention nor affection from anyone cause you know why?” She glared at both Alexander and Eliza then fixed to Eliza’s green eyes. “Because I am not like you who will die without it. You can have the attention of everyone as much as you like, I don’t care. Just don’t mess with the remaining days of my life here. So. Leave. Me. Alone.” Eliza’s anger blinded her and was about to slap her when someone stop her hand from touching Viviene’s cheek. “Lady Walmeir, if you hurt my sister I wont hold back.” The chilling voice made them shiver a little. Viviene’s eyes look at Arthur with wide eyes. It’s the first time that Arthur took her side. ‘I thought he’ll side with Eliza.’ She thought while blinking. Arthur let go of Eliza’s hand. “My sister has been kind to you despite of your rudeness to her back then. She invited you and handed you a present which she gain with her own effort yet you only payed it with baseless accusations and assumptions? Sir Valor, you took part of this nonsense as well by accompanying her here in our house.” Arthur fumed gritting his teeth. Viviene held Arthur’s sleeve and when he throw his gaze to her she shook her head. “I am sure that Sir Valor is only here in the pretext of knowing my condition. Is it right, Sir?” She asked to Sir Valor who’s expression is blank. “Because Lady Walmeir did not really explain the details of us visiting here, I assumed that we are indeed only here to know the lady’s condition. I apologize for not digging thoroughly of her invitation. If I knew, I would have decline.” He explained without a single emotion. “Sir!” Eliza called him but he glared at her so she shut her mouth. Viviene sigh and tried her best to calm herself. “Lady Walmeir, I let this slide for now.” “What? What are you talking about, Viviene? She tried to ruin your reputation by accusing you of spreading rumors about her and even calling fake about your illness.” Arthur fumed towards her. ‘I wonder who angered him? Me or Eliza?’ She stared at her eyes and was about to answer when she felt a painful throb in her heart. She staggered and held her chest thankfully, Arthur caught her before she fell on the floor. “Viviene!” Her stomach seems to burn and a stabbing pain filled her nape, chest and back. After that blood came out from her mouth and scattered to her dress down to the floor. The people inside the room were filled in horror as they saw her horrible state. “Viviene!” Arthur called once again and carried her in her arms. He run out from the room like a lightning. “I, I..” Eliza didn’t know what to say and what to do. Her hands trembled and her face paled intensely, then she passed out. “Lady Walmeir!” Alexander called but Eliza did not respond. He held her in his arms and followed them. They were both in the infirmary and the doctor check the both of them lying on the bed. Arthur and Alexander watch the two unconscious women. Alexander felt confused looking at the two. “Both of the ladies are alright now. For Lady Cruel I injected a medicine to decrease her temperature.” The doctor explained. “Yes, thank you doctor.” Arthur spoke with his eyed fix on Viviene. “Young Duke, I apologize for the commotion today.” Alexander said with a sincere tone looking at Viviene as well. “I know you are not someone who acts rashly, Sir Valor. Yet I cant blame Eliza for acting like this. We, pampered and gave her so much attention that she became dependent to it.” He concluded while looking at the unconscious Eliza. “I know she’s skeptical of my sister’s sudden change, even me was also doubting it at first. But when she look me in the eyes I felt a sudden disgust to myself.” He added. “How did I became an evil brother to her? I made her even more broken and now she’s..” He held Viviene’s hand feeling remorseful. Alexander walk and stop beside him. “Young Duke, I don’t know what to say for I even did awful things to the lady as well. I’ve became blinded by the light that I didn’t see what’s ahead of me with a clear mind and understanding. Please forgive me.” “I don’t know what to answer, Sir. I don’t care if I ask forgiveness a million times just, I just don’t want her to leave with sad memories.” He muttered so sad that the roses in the vase on the physician’s desk turned ice. “I admire the lady for being so calm despite her situation. I didn’t know she’s burning with fever the moment she entered the room yet she greeted us like there’s nothing wrong with her smiling pale face.” Alexander stated as he recall Viviene’s image hiding her pain behind her smiling face. He never thought that someone like Viviene can act so noble. “Ironically, she always asked me about who I like so that she can see my wedding before she died. It annoys me sometimes but I realized, she never planned anything for herself. I cant hear anything from her mouth what she likes and what she wants. I asked why to myself and then I concluded that perhaps no one cared about it, that she became used to it.” Arthur muttered with a sad smile on his lips. Alexander felt his sadness as well. ‘You can do what you want to do.’ ‘You can thing whatever you like to think about me. I don’t hold the way you think.’ ‘I apologize for causing trouble. This wont happen again.’ ‘I dont really engage myself to fairytales and romance because its not in my personality. However, if fairytales do exist in this world then it would not be too difficult to spot monsters.’ Yes. It was because they were blinded by the sudden light that appeared in front of them. Eliza, whom they know as kind-hearted, understanding and so bright somehow, makes them disappointed as they thought about her. But they are more disappointed to themselves than anyone else. “Young Duke, if you don’t mind, may I visit Lady Cruel when she wakes up? I want to apologize to her personally.” Alexander said breaking the silence between them. “… Alright.” Arthur nodded. “Thank you.” “Don’t mention it.” Both of them had a small smile at each other having the same feeling of regret and guilt for the lady who was wronged and now slowly withering. Once, there lived a couple who loved each other and had a child. Just like her lovely mother, she had a hair of gold and a pair of charming green eyes. The Marquis of Walmeir and his wife, Dorothy Faith Walmeir lived a happy and comfortable life with their daughter. Eliza love her mother so much and so as her mother towards her. But when there is love, there’s also misunderstanding. Viviene Allyssa Cruel at an early age, lost her mother and because Dorothy had a heart full of sympathy, she cared to the Viviene so much that she forgot about Eliza who was a child like Viviene as well. At an early age, she learned to be jealous. “Why do you always go with her mother? What about me?” “Eliza, dear, Viviene doesn’t have a mother and she need someone to guide her just like your mother did to you.” “No mother! I don’t want to! I don’t want you to be with her! I hate her!” “Eliza! Don’t be like that!” Because Dorothy cant understand and Eliza misunderstood the whole situation, the gap between the two slowly widen. And then something terrible happened, Eliza was having tantrums and went behind a tree to cool down her anger. Not knowing that her mother, Dorothy, went to the woods behind their house thinking that Eliza went their. Dorothy was captured by thieves, got r***d and beaten to death. After cooling her head, she returned home. Instead of a warm welcome from her father and mother, she received a cold glare from her father. The anger from his eyes seems to burn her skin and oddly, she kept on trembling in front of him. “F-Father?” “Do you know what you’ve done!? Do you know, Eliza!?” “Father? W-What is it?” “You’re mother is dead!” Her strong and firm father whom she knew was crying in front of her. The continuous tears seems like rain to her and she felt her cheeks wet due to the tears from her green eyes as well. All she can say to her father and her dead mother’s grave was sorry. Then she promised to herself that she will not be angry nor jealous over something anymore for it brought too much pain for her. Her father, indeed forgive her since she was just a child back then who doesn’t know anything, yet she can see in his eyes the longing of the love that left him. Her father’s was broken and still is broken that he never loved again. The regret in her heart remained every time. And when she met Viviene who was lonely and sad, seems like both pleasure and pity for her. Because deep in her heart she blamed Viviene for making her feel the sadness and pain she believed she didn’t deserve. ‘She deserves to be lonely and sad for making me this way. I hate her.’ She thought. And just like how she thought Viviene took her mother and her happy life away from her she also took everything from Viviene until she was left sad, in pain and broken. And she loves seeing it with her own green eyes that became dark with pleasure of someone’s suffering. ‘But why am I seeing this?’ She thought. ‘I hate dreaming this thing. It disgusts me.’ She added. “Eliza, Eliza.” A cold, deep and eerie voice called her. She look behind her but all she can see is the endless darkness. “Who is it?” She asked back. “Yes. She should have suffered so much because of what she did to you. You deserve better.” The voice muttered again. “But mother, I knew she wouldn’t let me hate her.” “No. Hate is normal for a human’s heart. You don’t have to hesitate because you’re just a human being, a special human being.” “Special? Do you really think so?” She inquired with a little surprise. “Yes. Now, I’ll help you heal your broken heart.” A black mist appeared in front her, oddly she can see it despite the darkness around. The mist surrounded her. She felt a sudden pain in her chest and its like she is burning. “Ugh!” Her whole eyes turned black then went back to normal with an intense feeling of hate and anger. Alexander and Arthur were in the infirmary when they heard a faint noise from Eliza. Both of them looked at her as she slowly opened her eyes. A pair of green irises met theirs with confusion. “Sir Valor? Young Duke? What happened?” She asked as she sit on the bed holding her head. “You lost consciousness and Sir Valor brought you here.” Arthur answered with indifference. She look beside her and saw Viviene sleeping on the bed next to her. Her ginger red hair was scattered all over the white pillow and her gentle yet faint breathing was the only sign that she’s alive despite of her pale-like-corpse image. “H-How is Lady Cruel?” She asked as she look at Viviene with worried eyes. “She is still unconscious until now. She had a fever but its already gone now after the doctor inject her a medicine to reduce the fever.” Arthur explained. “Lady Walmeir, I’m going to demand a letter of apology for your rudeness towards my sister.” He added. “I understand. I’m sorry, Young Duke.” She said in a low voice as she lower her gaze. However, her eyes didn’t show sincerity at all. Not even a bit. Arthur sighed. “I’ll lend you a carriage. Sir Valor, please escort Lady Walmeir to her home.” Arthur stated. “Yes, Young Duke. We shall take our leave now.” Alexander said and stood up. He help Eliza to get off from the bed but before they could left the room, Eliza suddenly speak. “Thank you for the hospitality, Young Duke.” She bow down avoiding his gaze to her. “And, I take back what I said earlier.” She added. “Take back what?” Arthur inquire as his forehead crease. Still lowering her head and looking at the floor, she answered. “That the lady is faking her illness. Lady Cruel is really telling the truth, that she is really, dying.” Her voice is strange that it brought a chill to their spines. She raise her head with a sad look and went out from the room. Alexander followed her without a word until they reach the carriage the duke prepared for them. Eliza went inside followed by Alexander. “Are you alright now, Lady Walmeir?” Alexander suddenly brought up to break the silence between them. Eliza look at him and smiled. “Yes. I am alright, Sir.” She answered and look away after saying that. Alexander stare at her for a while before looking away as well. He just thought that something is strange to Eliza but again, he shove it away in his head thinking its insignificant. ‘I thought I saw her eyes went black. I must be imagining things.’
