Chapter 11: Valerie

1361 Words
Today is the day! I’m finally being released from the hospital and honestly it’s about damn time. I was fine hours after I woke up but the doctor insisted on keeping an eye on me for a couple of days. There’s no doubt in my mind that David and Matteo had something to do with this. David alone would keep me under lock and key for the rest of eternity if he could get away with it. Luckily I have two badass friends on my side keeping me from becoming a real life rapunzel. Laura and Blake came early to help me get settled since Teo couldn’t make it today. Some kind of meeting he couldn’t miss which was also the reason dad or david couldn’t be here. The curiosity in me is piqued, wondering what they’re talking about. The Alpha meeting was a week ago and all the other Alphas have long since returned to their respective lands. Matteo has spent every day with me while I've been here. When he wasn't here he sent Barrett or Asher in his place. Spending time with all of them individually, I wonder how they function in running the pack without ripping each others heads off. Asher doesn't seem to have a playfull bone in his 6'3" body. He's always so serious and reserved which is the polar opposite of Barrett. If you can get him to take something seriously than you deserve a nobel prize, an olympic gold medal, and an Oscar. He's so laid back and chooses to see the light at the end of even the darkest tunnels. Matteo is a mixture of the two of them but you can see how stressed he is with everything. He doesn't play around as much as Barrett because he has a pack to run and it's like he feels like he has to be serious all the time. He's not as serious as Asher because it would suck him into a black hole that he won't be able to crawl out of. I feel bad though, he must have had pack business to tend to and instead he was sitting by my bed, eating crappy hospital food, and watching old shows on t.v. I really enjoyed getting to know a little about him in my short time in the hospital. I learned that his father is away visiting his aunt in Mexico with his little brother and that’s why he couldn’t be here for the party. They tried to make it back in time but a storm grounded all planes and they had no way of making it back. Teo showed me a picture of them and he’s the spitting image of his dad. His little brother, Jaoquin, is the perfect little mixture of his mom and dad. He's got jet black hair like his dad and his mothers signature brown eyes. Matteo and his dad though, they have the same jet black hair and grey eyes that stare deep into your soul. When he showed me a picture of Madelyn I choked on the water I was drinking. She looked like a mixture of Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie. It should be illegal for Luna Rory to have a family that looks this good. Not to mention you can’t find one photo of them where they don’t look like they’re ready to walk down the catwalk at Fashion week in New York. I definitely wouldn’t be showing any of my family photos for a while. The doctor came in just as we were packing up the last of my clothes into my bag. “Dr. Solorzano, I'm still free to go right? If not, I'm not ashamed to say that I'll make a run for it.” I teased. Well not really teased, I will make a run for it. I can't stay locked in this room for another second. He laughed and held his hand up to stop me. “Yes sweetheart you’re fine to leave. I just wanted to make sure that you remembered to take it easy and follow up with me in two weeks if you’re feeling ill again. Okay?” I sighed and nodded so fiercely that my hair came out of the bun I put it in earlier this morning. “Got it doc. I’ll be fine.” Bidding us all goodbye he left to go do his rounds and we took the opportunity to get the heck out of there. They rolled me to the front door and helped me into the back of a black SUV that would drive us to the pack house. I was shocked when we got to the pack house and my room had been moved to the floor where Matteo stays. My room was big and bright and directly down the hall from him which was not surprising at all. Laura and Blake excused themselves to let me get settled and freshen up. I couldn’t wait to get the smell of hospital off of my skin. I searched through the drawers for underwear, a bra, and some pajamas and headed into the en suite bathroom. My jaw hit the ground when I took one look at that bathroom. To say I died and gone to heaven would be an understatement. The bathroom was the exact same size as the room which seemed to defy physics but I won’t dare question it. I put my things on the counter and turned to turn the water on in the shower. I quickly undressed excitedly ready to try out this walk in shower with a waterfall showehead. The water hit my skin and eased the tension that I didn’t realize I'd been carrying in my shoulders and back. I took my time just standing under the stream of hot water letting it take it all away. I reached for the shampoo that was already in the shower and chuckled after looking at the label. It was my favorite custom shampoo and conditioner- I looked at the other products and sure enough they were all my favorite products down to the toothpaste. I don’t know how long I was in the shower but my fingers were starting to shrivel so I shut the water off and got out. I dried and brushed my hair, brushed my teeth, applied lotion and then crawled into the bed. After days in the hospital I thought I'd be raring to go hang out with Blake or something but all I want to do is relax. I grabbed the book that Blake no doubt left for me on the nightstand and opened up to the page that I left off on. Someone knocked on my door startling me.,“It’s open.” I said. The door opened and Blake stepped through shutting the door behind him. “Just wanted to check on you. Need anything?” he asked. Since we were kids I could always count on Blake to make sure I'm taken care of. It was one of the things I loved most about him. He always put others before himself.  “No, I'm okay. Just gonna read a bit and then get some sleep.” He nodded and shifted from one foot to the other with his eyes cast down. “What’s wrong Blake?” I sat up and patted the bed beside me- urging him to come sit down. I put the back face down on my lap and patted the bed beside me again but he didn’t move an inch. “Nothing.” he finally looked up at me. “Your brother wanted me to let you know that you need to meet him and your dad in Alpha Matteo’s office. 8 am, don’t be late.” Before I could answer Blake turned and left. I still haven't figured out what is going on with him- I made a mental note to ask him about it tomorrow. I went back to my book and it wasn’t long before the book began to droop and my eyes went along with it. It wasn’t even dark outside yet but I let the darkness take me.
