Chapter Three: Crush. I just realized that I have bought two coffee when I already went back to the office. I won’t even realize it until Jojo and Mitchell were both startled when they saw me holding two cups of coffee. “Are you really addicted to coffee?” asked Jojo. I rolled my eyes as I walked passed through them. I don’t care about them. I used to be teased by these two morons. I placed the cup of coffee above the table of Mr. Davids. He didn’t even gaze at me, it seems like he didn’t notice. He was too busy reading those papers. “I bought coffee for you, I hope you’ll enjoy sipping on it!” I said with a lively tone. Finally, he looked up and nodded. Without a smile, he thanked me. I wonder how he looks like when he finally smiles. I was expecting to see his face brightens up but I guess his smile was reserved for those who deserve to see it. When I sat down in my chair, those morons who always bullied me started whispering. “Do you have a crush on him?” Mitchell asked. Damn, I didn’t even realize that they would think about that. “Nope, don’t think of something else. I just want to give him coffee to freshen up his mind. Nothing more, nothing less,” I answered carefully. Because I know that one mistake I have said, they will judge me. They both stared at me like I’m not saying the truth. They even looked at each other and shrugged. “Really, huh?” Jojo said. “That’s what my grandma said when she was having a crush on my grandpa, ” Mitchell whispered teasing me. “Don’t fool us, Antonette. We know that strategy!” Jojo busted a small laugh. I glared at them. “Think whatever you want to think!” I exclaimed. I know that Mr. Davids heard what I said because it wasn’t a whisper. It was more like a shout because really, I don’t like what they were saying. They both hush me but I just rolled my eyes. I continued working on my papers as they continued whispering, teasing me with Mr. Davids. My face was heating up right now and if Mr. Davids wasn’t there, I would definitely hit them on the face! I sigh. I don’t know, but when I have noticed the reason why Mr. Davids was like that, I feel like I have the responsibility to make him happy. I want him to move on from what happened to him four years ago. Because I know, if I were his wife or his daughter, I will be sad from heaven seeing him that miserable in life. After work, I was really exhausted that I want to lay down on my bed. Hug my blanket and kiss the pillow in my room. “I’ll go ahead first, my son has a fever!” Jojo exclaimed and stormed out of the office. Even if he was that bully, he always cares for his son. He was a single father. I yawned as I was putting my things in my bag. I really want to take some rest. Both my body and mind were exhausted. There are a lot of crimes that we are handling this month and it drained my mind. And then, there’s a new case that we will be dealing with. People think that it was just a simple accident case but we thought that it wasn’t. It seems like there’s something wrong about the accident. And that’s what we have to find out. I stretched out my arms when I finally finished packing my things into my bag. “Aren’t you going home, Mr. Davids?” I asked him because he was too focused on what he was reading. “Wait for me,” he said. I gulped. Did I just hear it right? “W-what?” He licked his lips and put down the paper he was holding. He looked at me with a blank facial expression. “I said, wait for me, ” he repeated. My mouth dropped at what he said. I don’t know how to react, again. Am I hearing it right? Is this some kind of joke? I waited for him to finish what he was doing. He put down his glasses and that’s when I finally saw him without wearing those. I was feeling nervous while waiting for him. I suddenly forgot that I am exhausted. My mind started to think about why does he want me to wait for him. Is he going to thank me? Or he’ll treat me for dinner? Or is he going to ask me for a date? What the hell am I thinking? Of course not! He won’t do that! I know that he’ll just tell me to get out of his sight because I was being a nuisance! That’s it! Don’t assume, Mara Antonette.  You just want to make him smile, you don’t have a crush on him. That was too fast! “Let’s go,” he said in a low tone. My heart skipped a beat. What the hell is happening to me? Do I have to ready myself from what he was going to tell me? As we were inside the elevator. I can’t help myself but think about many things. I was so nervous. I want to ask him why! “M-my house was just walking distance from here.” I don’t know why those words came out of my mouth. “Okay, ” he replied. The silence between us makes me more nervous. Damn this man, what is running to his mind? I abruptly want to read minds just now! “Ah, may I ask why do you want us to get out of this building together?” I asked because I’m getting uncomfortable. We just got out of the building when he finally stopped walking. I gulped when he looked back at me. He stared at me blankly. Afterward, I felt like my heart suddenly stopped when he finally. . . Smiled.
