Racheal walked up the winding driveway, her feet crunching on the gravel. She hasn't seen Lila since Axel's funeral, and she was worried about her friend's isolation. Reaching the grand entrance, she knocked softly, and the door creaked open to reveal Lila's pale face.
"Hey, girl," Racheal says gently, "I've missed you. Can I come in?"
Lila nodded, stepping aside to let Racheal enter. The interior was dim, curtains drawn, and the air was heavy with grief. Racheal's heart went out to her friend."Lila, sweetheart, you need to get out of this house," Racheal said, setting down a bouquet of sunflowers on the coffee table. "Fresh air, sunshine – it'll do you good."
Lila shook her head, her eyes welling up. "I can't, Racheal. I just can't face the world without Axel."
Racheal sat beside Lila on the couch, wrapping her arms around her. "I know it's hard, but you're not alone. I'm here for you, and so are others who care about you. We want to support you through this."Lila's tears spilled over making Racheal hand her a tissue. "You're right," Lila sniffled. "I just feel so lost without him."
Racheal took Lila's hand. "You're not lost, Lila. You're grieving, and that's okay. But don't let grief define you. You're strong, capable, and loved. And I'm here to help you find your way again."Lila looked at Racheal, a small smile on her lips. "Thank you, Racheal. Just being here with you makes me feel a little better."Racheal smiles back. "That's what friends are for. Now, let's take a small step – how about a walk in the garden, after eating they walked outside and spoke a lot more making Lila feel a little better.
In the evening time, Lila received a text from her mother inlaw inviting her to the family house, with the help of Racheal Lila got dressed and added a little makeup to cover the dullness of her face.
Rene's parents, concerned about the future of the family's businesses and estate, decide to call a meeting with Lila, Rene, and Axel's lawyer, Mr. Jenkins. Mr and Mrs Blackwood, the lawyer Mr Jenkins gather in the study of the family mansion, a somber and formal atmosphere. The absence of Rene and Lila was noticeable because they are the two must important subject of the meeting.Lila entered the Blackwood living room, her eyes adjusting to the somber atmosphere. As she approached, Axel parents stood up, their faces solemn. "Lila, dear, we're so sorry for your loss. Our son's passing has left a gaping hole in our lives, and we can only imagine the pain you must be feeling."Lila's eyes welled up, and she nodded, her voice barely audible. "Thank you... it's been difficult."
Axel's mother took her hand. "We want you to know that we're here for you, and we'll support you through this tough time. As they talked ,Lila's eyes adjusting to the somber atmosphere, she noticed a man walk into the study his dark hair and piercing eyes catching her attention. She thought to herself, "Who the handsome stranger was" "He kind of looked familiar, she thought "Lila, dear, this is Rene, Axel's brother," his mother said, her voice trembling.
Lila's eyes widened in surprise. Axel had mentioned his brother, but she never expected to meet him, especially not here, in this moment. She remembered Axel's stories about his brother's departure, but he never shared the reasons why.
Rene's gaze met Lila's, and for an instant, they locked eyes. Lila's anger surged, thinking, "This is the man who abandoned his brother, who didn't care enough to stay." But she suppressed , her emotions, aware of the fragile moment. Rene looked at his late brother's wife, she was indeed beautiful as the press said and looked more better than the last time he saw her, he was at least glad that she was trying to move on.
Axel's parents gestured for everyone to sit, and the lawyer, Mr. Jenkins, started "Lila, Rene, please, let's discuss the arrangements," he said, his voice gentle but firm.Mr. Jenkins began by expressing his condolences to Lila and the family, then explained the purpose of the meeting. "As you know, Axel's passing has left a significant void in the management of the family's companies and estate. According to Axel's will, Rene is designated as the primary beneficiary and successor to his business interests."
Lila looked surprised, her eyes flicking to Rene, who sat quietly, his expression neutral.
Mr. Jenkins continued, "Rene's presence is crucial to ensure a smooth transition and protect the family's legacy. His parents and I believe it's essential for him to take an active role in managing the companies and estate, with Lila's involvement, of course."
Rene's mother adds, "We understand this may be difficult for Lila, but we want to assure her that Rene is committed to honoring Axel's memory and protecting the family's interests."
"Moreover Axel's will stipulates that Rene must work alongside you, Lila, to manage and oversee the estate and companies. You both have a vital role to play in ensuring the legacy Axel built continues to thrive."
Lila's gaze lingered on Rene, her thoughts racing with concerns and doubts. Could she trust him? Will he honor Axel's memory?
Rene's father sensed her unease. "Lila, please know that we understand this is a lot to take in. We'll support you both every step of the way. Rene who has been the center of discussion did not utter a word throughout the meeting, he was lost in his own world, he had more important things to do, he had companies and businesses all over the world take care of, companies that would trample over the Blackwood company, but he was going to stay for some while till he found a reason not to. After the meeting Mr and Mrs Blackwood made their daughter in-law stay for dinner and discussed with her, they were glad she was at least smiling and opening up, while Rene left together with the lawyer, after wishing his parents a good evening.
Lila went to visit her parents who were very glad to see their daughter, "honey hope you are coping well" her mother asked with a faint smile, she was so saddened by the unfortunate incident, no mother ever wanted her daughter to be widowed on the first day of marriage, "yes mum I am trying, Lila replied with a smile, Lila slept at her parents house who where very happy to have their daughter for just a day, the cooked, laughed and played a small family game before finally going to sleep. The next day by evening Lila returned back to her comfort zone, unlike other circumstances where people didn't want to be reminded of their late loved ones, Lila was the opposite she wanted to be reminded of him everytime, she wanted to reel in his memories for the rest of her life, to her he was life and light and only in his memories will she survive.
