CHAPTER 2: SHIFTING TIDES

Luna felt a wave of gratitude wash over her ." That's really kind of you," she said ." appreciate it ." Henry smiled ." it's no problem," he said " I know what it's like to feel like an outsider . When I first came here , I felt lost and alone .But over time , I've made some good friends. And I hope you too ." Luna felt a rush of hope " That gives me something to look forward to ." she said "it's nice to know that there's light at the end of the tunnel." Henry nodded ."And it doesn't have to be long tunnel ." he said " sometimes, all it takes one good friend to make all the difference." Luna smiled. " I'm starting to thank you might be that friend." she said.

Henry blushed a little caught off guard by her words " well I'm flattered," he said, "And I hope that I can be that friend for you ." Luna felt a sense of connection forming between them ." you already are ," she said , and Henry felt his heart skip a beat . " Well thanks " he said trying to play it cool . But on the inside, he was elated . He'd never had a friend like Luna before, and he was excited to see where their friendship would lead . He looked at her , and for a moment,their eyes locked

Luna felt a jolt if electricity run through her body as their eyes met , and she quickly looked away , blushing furiously. She didn't know what had come over her , but she knew she'd never felt that way about anyone before. "so ," Henry said , trying to break the tension, "what are your classes like so far ?" Luna was grateful for the change of subject. " They're interesting." She said " But I'm still getting used to the pace and the work load ." Henry nodded," it can be a lot to take in at first ," he said. " But I'm sure you will get the hang of it , and if you need ever need any help , you can always ask me . I know it's not easy to be the new kid ." Luna's heart warmed at his kindness ." Thanks Henry" she said " I really appreciate that " Henry smiled. And for a moment they just sat there , enjoying each other's company. But then , the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch .They both jumped up and Luna said , " I guess we'd better get to class ." Henry nodded. "see you later " he said, and they went their separate ways .

In the weeks that followed , Luna and Henry continued to see each other at school.They would chat during lunch and even started studying together after class .Luna started to feel like she was making a real friend for the first time in her life . But one day , something happened that changed everything. They were studying together in the library, when suddenly, they heard a scream coming from the hallway.They looked at each other and then ran out to see what was happening, as they ran out into the hall , they saw a crowd of students gathered around something on the floor . They pushed their way through the crowd and when the got to the front , they saw a girl lying on the ground, covered in blood " oh my God " , Luna said , her heart pounding, " what happened?" just then , the school nurse came running up . " She has been stabbed" she said ," we need to get her to the hospital." The girl's eyes were closed, and she wasn't moving. Luna and Henry stood there frozen in shook.The couldn't what they were seeing, as the nurse and so e teachers helped the girl onto the stretcher, Luna and Henry looked at each other both of them in a state of disbelief." I can't believe this is happening," Luna said her voice shaking. " I know," Henry said . " it's so terrible." They watched as the girl was carried away , and then the crowd started to disperse.But Luna couldn't move . she just stood there , staring at the spot where the girl had been lying , " Luna " Henry said gently " we have to go ." Reluctantly, Luna followed Henry back to the library, her mind racing. " Do you think she's going to be okay?" she asked , her voice barely above a whisper .

" I don't know," Henry said " But I hope so ," they sat back at their table, but neither of them could focus on their work . Luna kept thinking about the girl , and how scared she must have been .she couldn't imagine what it would be like to be attacked like that . It made her feel sick to her stomach. " I think I need to go home ." She said , standing up , Henry nodded " I'll walk you there ," he said ." it's probably not safe to be alone right now ." " No" Luna said hesitantly" it's okay I'll manage, I'll be fine" she didn't want Henry to take her home .she then left feeling more alone than ever . When she got home, her facial expression sent a signal to her aunt . Lydia sensed that something was wrong with Luna , then she asked. " How was your day at school today" Luna answered " good " " is everything okay, did something happen." Luna knew that her aunt could sense that something happened so she told right away about the girl and how terrified, worried and scared she was . Her aunt was worried but wasn't shocked "Luna don't be bored everything will be fine, okay? Lydia said while giving her a hug . But even as she said that she was worried for Luna . she feared that Luna is now becoming soft , having sympathy for the humans. It bothered her , how was she going to explain to Luna that the human can never understand them no matter much they show for them . Then Luna went straight to her room and lay down on her bed . She couldn't stop thinking about the the girl , and what might have happened even though her aunt has tried to comfort her on the situation.
