“Just pull over here,” I said as we hit the cafe.
“I’ll take you inside,” he insisted.
“No, no. That won’t be necessary. You’ve done enough, Fredrick. Please… just go.”
He let out this half-laugh, half-scoff. “Didn’t know you had to be so dismissive.”
“Yeah, well… you’re one hell of a head-cracker. God, and I thought I’d already met me.” I smiled…actually, for the first time since this nightmare of a Saturday started.
“Don’t forget to get that treated,” he said, moving toward his car.
“Yeah, yeah.” I waved him off and headed inside.
Caspian was already there, tucked into a table corner.
His eyes locked on me the second I walked in.
“Hi,” I said, trying a smile as I reached the table.
