The Beginning
Safire               Safire glanced at the sun peeking through the buildings. It touched her porcelain skin and she flinched momentarily before she remembered the dark magic necklace she was wearing which protected her from the sun. Safire’s strawberry blonde hair shined in the sun and highlighted the red and brown undertones. She had been sitting by her desk when the rising sun disturbed her methodical writing. She pulled her sweater tightly around her slim body as she stretched and acknowledged the beginning of a new day.           Safire was a vampire. She was turned into one when she was only eighteen and she looked young so she placed down her pen and notebook and started to get ready for school. She lived alone in an apartment in the Upper East Side. It overlooked Central Park and it was beautiful. She managed to gather money and moved every four years. She was on her own since her parents were killed while she was taken prisoner and turned.          Safire shook her head as the dark thoughts floated in and concentrated on choosing an outfit. She changed into short black shorts, a dark red cropped tank top, and an old pair of combat boots. She ran a brush through her hair, grabbed her bag, and left her apartment.          The streets were filled with disgusting air so Saf was sure to hold her breath. It wasn’t like she needed to breathe but it was a soothing action. She walked through the streets that made people stop and stare. She was tall, standing at about 5'9", with long strawberry blonde hair and clear creamy skin. She had bright green eyes, a cute button nose, and thick plump lips that turn down slightly. She walked straight and with purpose which drew people’s attention. Every morning she walked to her school and it took her half an hour but she loved walking.           The honks and yells and smells were all interesting to Saf. She was born in 1894. In 1912 she was changed to a vampire. She remembered the lack of smog and honks and missed the cleaner times. She found it funny that humans never tried to stop polluting although they seemed concerned about it. She was walking when she felt someone staring at her.          The man was stocky and glaring and Saf strongly suspected he was a Vampire Hunter. They were always searching but Saf had the power of convincing people to do what she wanted, so no one ever took her in. She stood still and waited for the man to walk up to her. He tilted his head confused that she didn’t try to run. She leaned against a building and waited for the hunter to approach her. The hunter made his way through the busy sidewalk and soon enough was standing next to her.           “I know what you are, don’t bother lying,” the man said. He stood right next to her and it was obvious that he didn’t know about her ability. Only a few people did. He would not have approached her so confidently if he knew.           Saf grinned and made eye contact with him, making sure she held his full attention, “I am a human and you didn’t go on a mission looking for a vampire, you went on a mission to buy a kitten and give it to your boss,” Saf said using her persuasion. She told him to do a random thing, she was annoyed and she knew buying a kitten would probably make other Hunters laugh at him.           “Okay, goodbye human,” the stocky man responded in a monotone. Saf sighed, flipped her hair, and continued her walk to school. Not all vampires had powers but she was lucky enough to be one that does have some.           She finally entered the ugly brick building and her friends found her immediately, she befriended a few humans because she didn’t want to be lonely.          “Hey, Saf,” Kevin said and wrapped his arm around her waist. She knew he liked her but she didn’t return the feeling. She slipped out of his arms with a smirk. Zoe, who had walked up with Kev, laughed.          “I told you your advances were unwanted,” Zoe said and Kev glared at her.           “Zoe is right,” Saf said and Kev sighed.          “I’m gonna get you one day,” he said and took the rejection quite well. All three of them were used to this daily procession. Kevin knew she didn’t like him but she was so beautiful he just couldn’t stop.          “I doubt it, although you’re not too bad if I get stuck with you,” Saf said as she started walking to her first class. Kev followed like a puppy and Zoe secretly wished it was her who he worshipped.          “You know you guys aren’t even close to the same level,” Zoe joked but was slightly serious. Saf was so beautiful and almost unworldly. Kev was a normal boy with average hair and eyes. Zoe was also average, they belonged together not him and Saf.          “Welcome class,” Mr. Higgins greeted before Saf or Kevin could respond to Zoe's jab. Mr. Higgins was a nice man but a horrible teacher. Saf sat down and prepared to be bored, so she was surprised when a new student walked through the door. She wouldn’t have been surprised if she had heard a heartbeat but he too had none.          She met his eyes and he nodded acknowledging she too was a vampire. He walked to Mr. Higgins and handed him a note. “Class, this is our new student Mr. Collin Agrest.”          “Hi,” Collin muttered and sat at the empty seat on Saf’s left. She turned to him and offered a smile.          “I’m Safire,” She greeted. She was very curious as to why there was another vampire. She was also very hesitant to find out because she very passionately hates vampires.           “I heard about a… I heard you were here and I came to talk with you,” Collin said. He kept his face flat and Saf could tell he was an older Vampire than she was. His eyes were pitch black and cold and Safire could tell that he wasn't a vampire that she would get along with.           “After this class, I’ll just ditch,” Saf offered hesitantly and Collin nodded. He turned and seemed to think the conversation was over so Saf spent all of the class wondering why another Vampire came to find her. Collin must have been a few hundred years older than her which was why she decided to see what he wanted, but she knew that she could take him if it came down to it.           When the bell finally rang Kevin and Zoe came and started talking but nothing processed in Safire's racing brain. Safire told her friends that she wasn't feeling well and that she was headed home. They said their goodbyes and she raced to the parking lot. When she finally met Collin by his car she was ready to scream, she was more than curious to see what this was all about. Collin was standing next to a small red sports car.          “My clan is having problems with the Hunters and we need you could come to persuade them,” Collin asked straight forward. Saf didn’t like his brisk manner. She hadn’t talked to another Vampire in over fifty years and while some may find that lonely, she found it a blessing. So to have a rude vampire bossing her around right now was not exactly making her feel like she was in a helping mood.           “I don't know,” she said and tapped her foot while thinking. She hated vampires. They ruined her life. The coven that attacked her village only took the most beautiful men and women and turned them and left everyone else to die. She spent a few years with that coven being taught the ways of a vampire, but once she discovered her powers she ran away and never looked back.           “I wasn't asking. Get in the car,” Collin ordered. Saf glared at him she was about to persuade him but before she could open her mouth he grabbed her and shoved her against his car. He wrapped heavy chains around her wrist and shoved her in the car. He blindfolded her and laid her down in his passenger seat. Safire decided to save her energy to fight once she got to where he was taking her.      Well... this should be interesting... she thought to herself.
