Chapter 5 Sierra’s Spot

770 Words
I had to rush out of there. I couldn’t believe what happened. Of course I remembered last night. I know how to handle my liquor but I didn’t want Mike to know that. I also didn’t want him to know that I remembered last night. I don’t know what came over me.  As soon as I got home I got in the shower. I stood there for what felt like hours letting the water run down my body. I could feel it gradually getting cooler as the hot water was rubbing out. I really had been here awhile. “Goddammit,” I muttered aloud. I turned the water off and reached out for my towel. I glanced down at my phone resting on the counter of the sink. It was lit up and it looked like I was getting a call. “Awe, s**t,” I looked to see who it was and guess who? Michael. I didn’t know what to even say so I let him go to voicemail. Then I noticed the dozen missed texts and calls.  I unlocked my phone and went to my messages.  ‘Hey Sierra, hope you got home safe’ 10:28 AM ‘Just wanted to check in and make sure you’re okay’ 10:41 AM  ‘You haven’t answered my last couple of calls. Hope you’re okay’ 10:52 AM  ‘I’m coming over to your house. Wanna make sure you didn’t get in an accident...’ 10:57 AM  Awe hell. That last one was sent five minutes ago. He’ll be here any minute. I quickly wrapped the towel around me and rushed to my bedrooms closet. T-shirt and shorts will have to do. I threw them on just in time to hear the front doorbell ring followed by some really aggressive knocking and Michaels voice shouting, “hey Sierra? You in there? It’s Michael.”  “Coming!” I yelled back as I was running to the front of the house. I opened the door to a very stressful looking Michael. “I’m fine Michael.”  “You just didn’t answer your phone...” he said, his voice laced with concern.  “As you can see, I was in the shower,” I said as I gestured to my still dripping wet hair. My T-shirt that I had thrown on was already pretty wet from my hair and I realized I hadn’t put on a bra as I noticed Michaels gaze trail down to my breasts. I didn’t have to look down to know that you could probably see my n*****s through the shirt. I quickly crossed my arms over my chest and cleared my throat, “did you want to come in?” Michael sheepishly looked up and nodded, moving through the doorway.  “I’m sorry, I didn’t think... I just... since losing Mathew I’ve become a little more worried about you.” He was telling the truth. This past week, since Mathew died, Michael had been practically hovering around me. That’s how he was able to find me so easily last night when I was standing in the rain.  For as long as I can remember that’s where I would go to clear my head. The sound of the ocean and seagulls cleared my head. Whenever I had my bad days, Mathew would always fine me there. I needed to go back there this afternoon...a lot has happened in such a short amount of time.  After pleading with Michael that I’m fine and I rather be alone, he begrudgingly left. I didn’t want to have to face the music from what happened last night. I still felt guilty and thinking about it made the regret worse. Maybe I needed to head to the beach sooner rather than later. Yes that was it. I grabbed my keys and headed out the door. I didn’t feel like driving. I usually never do. The walk is only a mile or two away but I didn’t want Michael to show up again and I not have an excuse to not go with him.  It was a little cloudy out but the temperature was still pretty warm. Good. I didn’t want to have to go back in and change out of my shorts. The drive was quick as I would expect. Not many people out thankfully. The weather lately has been nothing but clouds and rain but for now it was calm. As I started to walk out to my usual spot I felt a chill. It was at least 80 degrees outside so it caught me off guard. I ignored the cool feeling and sat down, crossed my legs and closed my eyes.  Deep breaths. In...out...in...out...  then the familiar chill hit me, this time leaving a plethora of goose bumps along my skin. I opened my eyes and I swear I had a heart attack.  “Mathew?!”
