I sat there, holding her in my arms, listening to her heartbeat slowly fading. Max was howling in my head, all kinds of emotions running through him, but all I felt was numb. How? How could this happen? Why put us through all this just to lose them both?
I felt my Dad trying to take her from me and I growled with so much force that the walls shook. He was speaking to me but I heard nothing but static. I just kept listening for her heartbeat to fill my ears again. But all I heard was silence. Silence that was engulfing me, pulling me down into the abyss with her. And I would happily let it. Without her I didn’t want to live anyway.
