‘Zander, don’t. Please, babe. I’m fine. Can you just trust me for once?!’
I could feel his anger rising and fast. If he blew, these kids would get hurt. I was gonna have to speed this along. Trevor wasn’t saying anything yet so I kicked him. I mean, actually kicked him. Which drew his eyes to me and I glared at him silently trying to command him to speak.
He took the hint, thankfully, and growled at this Randy dude whom I seriously wanted to drop kick into oblivion. “Let the boy go, Randy. If you let the pups go I’ll give you the girl.” “And what's she to me, Ole Yeller?” Randy's men laughed at the name, but I didn’t find anything funny in it.
