CHAPTER 7 Lyra POV I spined towards the mirror, at first surprised to see her but recalling what she had done, I spoke. "You did this!" I exclaimed. "You made us switch bodies!" I added and the goddess bursted into laughter. "Is that what you think?" She asked. "Who else would have done that if it wasn't you?" I asked. "Why are you doing this now?" I questioned but she only smiled. "Oh no, darling." She replied. "I didn't cause the swap. I didn't even think of it." She added, confusing me. I stared back at her, puzzled. If she didn't cause the swap then who would have done that? "Are you saying you didn't cause this?" I asked, referring to Malrik's body. She examines her nails before replying. "If I wanted you in his body, I'd have just put you there." She said, "Why would I bother with the heart transplant?" She added. I stood still, trying to figure out what she said. She was right, she was the moon goddess. If she had wanted to switch our bodies, she would have done that easily but what exactly went wrong between Malrik and I? "Then what caused it?" I asked, stumped. "That's the delicious part," The moon goddess smiled. "I have no idea. Ancient magic." She replied. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Perhaps? The universe's sense of humor?" She teased, leaning closer: "All I wanted was for the Wolf King to fail the trials. You did that beautifully." She added. My fists clenched by my side, trying to hold my tension. "So I'm done?" I asked, still anxious. "I survived the trial," I rushed. The goddess's eyes gleamed, though I couldn't describe that. "I don't think so," The goddess replied, taking me aback. "We're just getting started." She added. My face scrunched up in confusion. Clueless about what she meant by us just getting started. "What–" "Seven tasks," The goddess purred, interrupting me. "Complete them, and you get your revenge." She replied and my eyes widened in shock. Seven tasks? How could she suddenly have seven tasks for me when she only gave me a task in replacement for the heart she gave me. "You didn't tell me–" "Fail even one," The goddess said, tapping my chest. "And that pretty heart I gave you will rot inside you. Slowly. Painfully." She added, with all seriousness. "Seven?" My breath catches. "You said one task!" I added. "I never mentioned a task." She replied. "I said survive the trial and you did." The goddess replied with a twisted grin. "What?" I blinked, rapidly. "Now for task two." She replied, ignoring my question. The mirror suddenly turns blurry and words burn in the mirror. Task two : DESTROY THE COUNCIL OF ELDERS I stared at the mirror, confused. "Destroy the council?" I muttered. "Destroy the council? How am I supposed to—" "Figure it out," The goddess replied, simply. "Oh, and good news—in sixty days, your darling ex-mate Kaelen and his precious Meli will visit the palace." She added and my heart pounded rapidly. "Kaelen is coming here?" I asked, not hiding my surprise. "Mmm-hmm. Political summit." She answered. "You can have your revenge then. But only if you complete my tasks." I stood still and my mind whirls with images of Kaelen's face, his smile and most especially the look on his face when he shoved the scalpel in my chest. My blood boiled at the thought of that but there was something I was concerned about at that moment. "What does the body swap have to do with anything?" I asked but the goddess grinned at me. "Everything." She replied. "I'm going to use it to tear this kingdom apart." She added, blowing a kiss and vanished. I stared at the mirror still in shock, I slumped against the sink, exhaustion crashing over me. I stumbled out of the bathroom walking to the room as I stumbled to the massive bed, collapsing. I stayed in the bed, staring at the ceiling of the room as I drifted into sleep instantly. It was all dark for a while until a trace of light shone on my face, the light faded slowly as Malrik prowled towards me, naked. His golden eyes glowing as his gaze was fixed on my body too. He had a burning gaze, golden eyes threatened to pulverize me to bits as he stared down at me. "You think you can ruin my kingdom and walk away?" He growled. I made to speak but before I could, he rushed over to me pushing me roughly onto the bed. I made to stand but in a quick pace, he spread my thighs stopping me from moving. His mouth descended on me, tongue licking through my folds. His touch made my thighs clench in excitement. "Malrik!" I arched, rolling my eyes in pleasure. He moved over me, making his face meet with mine. He stayed still for a while and I almost moved wanting to know what was going but he thrust two fingers inside me. "Marlik," I groaned, biting my lower lip as my body vibrated. "Come for me, witch." Marlik smirked, thrusting his finger deeper. "Oh," I screamed, clutching the bedsheets as my thigh shook terribly. "Do it witch," Malrik demanded. "I will," I screamed, shattering. The pain doubled as I wouldn't let go. "Marlik," I cried, waking up with a painful erection. I jerked up from the bed, wanting to stand from the bed but I fell back on the bed. I glanced around, trying to catch a glimpse of anyone but there was none and I was still in Malrik's body. "Gosh," I groaned. "It is a nightmare." I muttered, realizing what had happened. I shut my eyes, wanting to stand again when I heard a sharp knock on the door. I jerked up, opening my eyes that instant. "Your Majesty, you're late for the council meeting." A male voice said. I rolled my eyes, trying to figure out who it was. There was no one else who would have come to call me except Malrik's Beta. "Council meeting?" I asked, uptight in Malrik's voice. "It started ten minutes ago, sire." He answered, outside the room. I flicked my eyes, severally. "What do I—how do I—" Lyra scrambled, trying to figure out what to do. I had no idea how to be the Wolf King, I knew nothing about how he acted around his Elders. I've never been to the council meeting before, how will they expect me to act in their presence. Goodness. What do I know? I couldn't even sense Malrik's presence anywhere close, would he even give me any response at this moment. He seemed even pissed when he left earlier. “I have no idea how to be the Wolf King!”
