Episode 2: The Feeling That Won’t Fade The next night, Brittany told herself she was imagining it. The feeling. That subtle awareness crawling beneath her skin. She moved through her evening routine like always—work, a short walk, a stop at the café. Her laughter came easily, her posture confident. But something had changed. The air felt heavier. The shadows deeper. Across the street, Lucifer stood perfectly still beneath the dim glow of a broken streetlamp. She was more alert tonight. He noticed the way her eyes scanned reflections in windows. The way her shoulders stiffened when footsteps echoed too loudly behind her. She was starting to feel him without seeing him. Good. Brittany stepped into the café and ordered her drink. While she waited, she glanced toward the window. For a split second— She thought she saw a tall figure across the street. Hood up. Watching. But when she blinked, there was nothing there. Her pulse quickened. Annoyed at herself, she grabbed her drink and stepped back outside. The sidewalk felt colder now. Quieter. Lucifer had moved before she could confirm anything. He always moved first. She walked faster tonight. Not running. Just quicker. He followed at a distance, controlled and patient. He didn’t need to rush. Fear grew best when watered slowly. When Brittany reached her apartment, she paused before unlocking the door. Her hand hovered over the handle. She could swear someone had been behind her. She turned sharply. Empty street. Silence. But from the darkness near the alley, Lucifer watched her disappear inside once more. She was beginning to sense the shadow. And soon… sensing wouldn’t be enough.
