Episode 3: Closer Than Before
Brittany didn’t sleep well.
The feeling followed her into her dreams — heavy, watchful, breathing just beyond reach. When she woke, her room felt too quiet. Too still.
She shook it off.
It was nothing.
By evening, she forced herself back into routine. Confidence returned to her stride as she stepped outside, red hair catching the fading light. If someone had been watching her, she refused to be afraid.
Across the street, Lucifer observed the shift immediately.
She was trying to regain control.
He admired that.
Tonight, he allowed himself closer.
Not across the street. Not hidden far behind.
Closer.
Brittany stopped at a crosswalk, waiting for the signal to change. The street was nearly empty. A faint breeze lifted her hair.
And then—
Footsteps.
Slow. Measured.
Behind her.
Her pulse spiked. Every nerve sharpened.
She didn’t turn right away.
The steps stopped when she stopped breathing.
The signal changed.
She crossed quickly, finally glancing back over her shoulder.
A tall figure stood at the edge of the sidewalk.
Hood up.
Face hidden in shadow.
Her heart slammed against her ribs.
For the first time, she saw him.
Not clearly.
Not fully.
But enough to know she hadn’t imagined it.
Lucifer didn’t move toward her.
He didn’t need to.
The distance between them was charged — electric.
She stared for half a second too long.
Then a car passed between them.
And when it cleared—
He was gone.
Brittany stood frozen on the opposite sidewalk, shaken but strangely aware of something else rising inside her.
Not just fear.
Something darker.
And from the rooftop above, Lucifer watched her realization settle in.
Now she knew.
And the game had truly begun.
