Chapter 5 Forget it happened

1440 Words
After Sierra left the room, William stood still, lying on the bed and staring at the ceiling, reminiscing about last night's events. Sincerely... He couldn't believe what happened either. He had s*x with Sierra! Sierra! His best friend. The one girl who was off-limits to him. A sigh left his lips, and he brought his palm to his face, facepalming himself. "How did this happen?" He asked, letting out a groan. He had forced himself to act calm while she was present so Sierra wouldn't freak out even more, but now that she was gone... He could finally have his moment of freaking out. Last night was one of the longest nights he had ever had. Sierra had convinced him to take her to his brother's birthday party... A party he didn't even want to go to, but after she asked him about it countless times, he had no choice. He had only taken a glass of alcohol when he noticed someone he didn't expect to be there. His girlfriend, Sonia. A weird thought had crept into his head, but he shook it off and went to meet her. He also didn't expect how harshly she would welcome him. She had pulled him to the side and questioned why he was there because he hadn't mentioned anything about going to the party. William, although he had more right to be at the party than his girlfriend and had his own suspicions, explained that he was only there because of Sierra. But then, out of nowhere, Sonia picked a fight with him. She argued that he was always with Sierra, that she had some kind of leash on him. William got mad and obviously protected his best friend, but then Sonia said something that stuck with him. "Either you're blind, or you think I'm stupid because it's obvious you have feelings for your so-called best friend." Those words made William freeze. No. He didn't believe it. That was bullshit. But before he could recover from those words and speak, Sonia spoke again and told him straight up that the relationship was over. His heart ached. Sonia had been his girlfriend since the first year of college. Although they occasionally broke up, they always got back together. But something told him that wasn't what would be happening tonight. Before he could say anything, Sonia walked away. Because of that, he hadn't been in his right mind. Her words kept ringing over and over in his head. He had feelings for his best friend... He had never seen Sierra that way. Oh... There was one time, but it was a long time ago. The feelings he had had long been buried because he didn't want to ruin the friendship that they had. He had forgotten about it... And Sonia reminded him. Maybe that was why his head got muddled when Sierra kissed him last night. A part of him had thought, what if... What if she felt the same way? William's hand slowly moved away from his face to his chest, and he placed it where his heart was, beating firmly and a bit too fast. He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. What if this time... Was the right time? The feelings he thought he had buried had resurfaced. He could feel them... And it felt amazing. His lips stretched out into a wide smile. "f**k," he muttered before letting out a low chuckle. Last night should be wrong, so why was he feeling butterflies in his stomach anytime Sierra's face popped into his head? Maybe last night was supposed to be an eye-opener for him. It was meant to happen. William sighed again, a huge smile still planted on his lips. He stayed still for a few more minutes before sitting back on the bed. He spotted his boxers not too far away, and he stood up from the bed to get them. He had just placed one of his legs into his boxers when, all of a sudden, he heard the sound of the door being opened and a familiar voice spoke. "Hey, Liam, you..." His eyes widened, and he turned around quickly. "Wait, I'm just..." "Ah! f**k!" Sierra immediately screamed as soon as her best friend's bare buttocks came in front of her eyes. She turned around quickly, holding the now-warm cup of almost-empty coffee tighter in her hands, her eyes shut tight. "How are you not dressed yet?!" She whispered harshly, squeezing her eyes even tighter. She had the grace of being drunk last night and could barely remember how William's body had looked, but with what she had just seen, the memories were coming back, and she hated it! She could never unsee that. William chuckled at Sierra's shy reaction. She truly was bolder when drunk. He placed his second leg in his boxers before answering her. "Why are you whispering?" He whispered back to her. "Because your brother is in the house!" Sierra replied, again with a sharp whisper. William drew the boxers upwards until they reached his waistline before snapping the band. "Well, it is his house," he answered, his tone slightly sarcastic. Then he turned back to face Sierra, who had her entire body turned away from him. A small smile appeared on his lips. "Are you done?" Sierra asked him after a few seconds, and he hummed before picking up his shirt, which he had spotted earlier. Sierra turned around but immediately wanted to turn back. Yeah, he was done... But her eyes couldn't stop looking down there, which clearly had a... Ah, f**k. What did she get herself into? She forced herself to look up, but her gaze was lost on his abdomen... His abs. 'Was he always this toned?' William noticed the way she stared at him, and a feeling of pride swelled in his chest. He threw the shirt around and wore it with both hands without bothering to button it up. He spoke again, clearing out the weird silence between them. "Sia, I was thinking about what happened and, I think that maybe we should..." "Forget it ever happened?" Sierra suddenly interrupted him, forcing her gaze to his face. "I was just thinking the same thing." The smile on William's lips disappeared slowly. "What?" "I mean, sure... We had..." Sierra paused before muttering the next word as low as possible, but in a tone William could still hear. "Sex..." She gulped before continuing. "But we are sexually active people. It's impossible for two people of different sexes to be best friends without ever banging each other, right?" She added the last part with a nervous chuckle so it would seem like a joke. One which William wasn't finding funny at the moment. "What?" He asked, the smile completely gone from his face. The butterflies he had felt before had disappeared also, almost as though they were killed. Sierra cleared her throat before taking a few steps forward. "I'm just saying that we should put last night behind us," she said, and then sighed. "I was drunk and you were..." She wasn't too sure of his story, but she didn't want to think about it. "Aish, it was a mistake. One that should never, ever happen again, and it wouldn't." A mistake. What he had thought was an eye-opener or was destiny... She just said it was a mistake. William felt a sudden ache in his chest. It didn't even hurt that much when Sonia had said it was over last night, and he had been with her for almost two years. Yet after one night with his best friend, after making him feel this way... She said it was a mistake. "Yeah." He turned away from her, taking in a sharp breath before repeating her words. "It was a mistake." One that would never happen again. Sierra didn't notice the pain in his words, neither did she see the glint that passed through his eyes or the expression on his face, so she smiled before letting out a sigh of relief. "I knew you'd understand," she said, her smile getting brighter before going to sit by the side of the bed. It took William a few seconds to mask the pain in his expression, and once he did, he turned to face her. He noticed the smile on her face and how it hadn't left. He just had to ask... "So, why are you so giddy?" Sierra's eyes twinkled. She had been expecting this question. "Well..." Her look made it seem as though she wanted to explode with joy. "Your brother just said he liked me!"
