I watched as my kids crawled into bed. I looked over to see it was only 8:30pm.
“You two are eager to get into bed,” I smiled as they nodded.
“We wanna hear the rest of the story mama.” My little girl said, as her brother nodded his head.
“Yeah! We want to know what happens to Lillian!” I chuckled.
“Alright, alright, okay where did we leave off?”
“The cave monster!” Laveaha yelled out.
“Lillian heard deep, low growl, and had decided to go with her gut and turned around, that’s when she was meant with. . . “

I had decided to listen to that feeling, it had saved me from the bear, so maybe it will help me here. With that, I turned around to be meant with a huge scaly face staring right at me. The scaled were black, the head was bigger than my body, with sharp pointy teeth. On top of its head had two spiral horns, that only went around once. They were gray on top and faded to a black. Steam came out of its nostrils as it breathed out, but what captured me the most were the eyes. Purple, blaring eyes stared right into my green ones. They seemed to light up the dark cave, the pupil being a black slit. I couldn’t stop looking into the eyes of this. Only on thought ran through my mind, ‘Dragon’. A dragon was in front of me. Something so unheard of, thought to not exist was right in front of me. I was standing in front of a dragon. My heart seemed to beat out of my chest. For, I think out of fear. This could easily of killed me, yet we both did not move. We both stared into each other's eyes.
That’s when it took a step forward. My eyes widen. I took a step back. It kept walking forward, and I kept walking backwards. It only had to take three steps before are noses were inches apart. It bared its teeth, and growled again. I started shaking. My eyes welling up with tears. After everything I’ve been through this is how I was going to die. Oh, how I wish I could move, but my body was paralyzed. I kept yelling to run, yet my legs did not listen. I closed my eyes, waiting for death. I waited, and waited, but instead of being met with my death, I heard what sounded like the smacking of lips. Slowly I peeled my eyes opened, to see the dragon opening and closing its mouth, as if trying to speak. Finally it spoke.
“What are you doing here?” His voice had boomed, and echoed off the cave walls. I stood frozen, and kept shaking.
“I-I’m s-s-sorry, I d-didn’t mean t-to stu-uble in your cave. But t-there was th-his bea-ar an-nd,” I started crying before I could finish. ‘I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna-’ My thoughts ended as I earned a snort. I opened my eyes and looked at the dragon as he shook his head.
“Hmm what to do, what to do with you. Why is such a little thing like yourself out in the woods?” He looked behind me out the cave, “With no one?” I shook my head while tears fell.
“P-please don’t hurt me.” He snorted again.
“I’m not gonna hurt you little one, as long as you answer my questions truthfully.” I nodded, “Good girl, now why are you in the woods?” He had questioned me.
“I ran away from home.” I let out a breath of relief when I didn’t stutter.
“Why did you run away?” I shook my head not wanting to answer. He huffed out a breathe, “Fine you don’t have to answer that one.” I noticed how his voice was raspy, probably from not speaking for a while, but it also had this hard, stone cold to it. Do dragons even have emotions? Who knows?
“What’s your name little one?”
“Lillian,” I said in a soft tone, I was still on edge, and my head was down. I was feeling exhausted from the events of today, and slightly dizzy. I didn’t hear a reply from him, for I had passed out. As I hit the hard, cold cave ground, I heard one last thing. ‘Dammit’.
***************************************
I slowly woke up to the sound of the crackling of a fire. I felt the heat coming from it, and it felt amazing. I also felt the blanket that laid on me. I snuggled into it. That’s when I remembered everything, ‘Bear, cave, dragon, passing out, DRAGON!’ Immediately I bolted up and looked. It looked like I was in a different cave, and next to the blanket was a fire that was slowly dying out. I felt a chill crawl up and I picked up the blanket, laid it across my shoulders, wrapped myself in it. I continued to look around. I made my way to the entrance, my suspicion being confirmed. I was in a cave way up high on a mountain. When you exited the cave, there was a little cliff, before a drop. I walked backwards, scared of falling.
“Ah. your awake,” I whipped around to see those bright purple eyes. I gulped, and slowly nodded. He walked closer, it looked like he was in deep in the cave, and it looked as if the cave goes on forever. It was a huge opening, and huge all the way through. Big enough for the gigantic dragon to move around freely. My curiosity slowly grew. I tilted my head.
“Is this your home,” He nodded.
“Indeed it is, Lilly.” I tilted my head again.
“Lilly?” I had to crane my neck up to look at him. I was already extremely short, standing around 5 '0 foot, and it didn’t help that he was a huge dragon.
“A nickname, considering your name is Lillian.” He had said, and I nodded in understanding. No one has ever called me that, hell it as rare to hear someone say my real name. I looked down. Not knowing what to say.
“Damien,” I snapped my head up, and tilted my head for the third time, “My name, Damien.” I nodded.
“That’s a very human like name?” I had questioned him. It was though.
“I speak like a human, so isn’t appropriate to have a name like one?” It felt as though he was questioning me. I guess it was true, I was talking to him as if he were human. So I nodded. I began to grow curious, why wasn’t he hurting me. So I tilted my head, and asked.
“Why haven’t you hurt me? Why do I feel so comfortable around you?” I straighten my head. Damien’s eyes went wide, before standing up, and shaking his eyes.
“That’s something you’ll figure out in the future. But for now I’m hungry and I’m sure you are too. So I’ll go get us some food.” with that I watched as he flew out of the cave with a bewildered look.
I couldn’t help but ponder on the events that have happened these past days. I was going to marry that man, I ran away from home, I got chased by a bear, and now here I am in the dragon’s den, with a dragon who can talk. I held the blanket close to my cold body, and walked outside. Looking up at the sky, it was cloudy, and I got lost in my thoughts. I began to think about the dragon, Damion he said was his name. What was he planning, was he planning on eating me. Those thoughts scared me.

My husband had scoffed, and our little babies looked at him, I turned to him and glared, “Is there something you would like to add love?” The little ones giggled.
“Why yes, wouldn’t the dragon want something fattier, Lillian is probably a tiny little thing, which wouldn’t do no good for a huge dragon,” He said as a matter-of-fact. My glare hardened as my dear husband wore a smug look, and my babies laughed.
“Daddy is in trouble I think Ollie,” Laveaha whispered loudly to her brother.
“How is Lillian supposed to know that, in her mind the dragon is a scary beast, who pretty much kidnapped her and took her to his home,” I told my husband. His smug look dropped and he look at Oliver.
“Oliver, you might have to protect me, from your mother,” I rolled my eyes at my husbands dramatic-ness.
“Anyways, Lillian soon went back into the cave, after the outside was too cold to bear and went to were the fire used to burn…”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was trying to get the fire back on, but yet it didn’t seem to like me. I tried over, and over again, but soon gave up after the 100th attempt. I sighed and tightened the blanket that Damion had given to me. Soon I heard a grunt come from behind me, and a loud ‘Thump’. I turned to see what was the noise, only to see Damion, shaking out his wings, and holding something in his claws. A few seconds later he started walking towards me and looked at the died out fire, he shook his head and blew. His breath held flames, that stuck onto the wood, and stayed alive when he was done. I sat down and huddle towards the warmth. It felt so nice.
“Thank you,” I looked up at him and he gave me a nod.
“Over there is some more logs,” He gestured his head to the right, “Do you know how to skin an animal?” He had questioned me, and I nodded. I was taught at a young age to do so I could prepare food for my ‘dear’ parents. “Good,” was all he said before putting down a rabbit, and he turned away. I looked around for my bag, which I knew held the knife I stole from my father.
“Where is my bag?” I questioned Damion.
“Over by the logs,” He began walking towards the back of the cave and laid there, he curled his body, and closed his eyes. Little bits of steam came out of his nose as he breathed.
I walked over to the logs and saw my bag, I dug through, and found the knife. I also grabbed a few logs for the fire. I reached were the dead rabbit laid and picked up, and walked to the fire. There I began skinning the rabbit, cutting off pieces of the meat that I knew I wouldn’t eat. I stuck the pieces of meat that was good onto the end of the knife and held it over the fire, cooking it. Once it was done I took it off and began eating it. It felt good to have some real food after a few days of not having any.
Once I was done eating, I looked over at Damien, who seemed to remain asleep. I sighed, and looked at the entrance of the cave. It was dark outside, and I continued to look around. Finally my eyes felt heavy, I threw in another log into the fire, curled up with the blanket and fell asleep.
“...she went to sleep, and so should you two,” I smiled at my babies, as they looked at me with shocked looks.
“But momma! I wanna know what happens next!” Oliver stood on the bed and exclaimed.
“Please can we stay up longer,” My little girl drew out her please, and I smiled while shaking my head.
“You can find out tomorrow night.” I stood up to tuck them into their beds.
“Momma is right you two, it is very late, plus the story isn’t going anywhere,” The two of them pouted, but climbed into bed. We tucked them into bed and kissed their head. We said our ‘Love you’.
“Are you sure love they should hear this story?” I looked over at my husband.
“We shouldn’t shelter them from the world. They want to know too.” I told him, to which he just nodded.
