Rena’s POV
“Someone is here for the girl, Doctor.” Gina told her as she stared at the little princess she had just put in the incubator. She was really small and still under observation.
“Do you think she will make it?” Gina asked, concern written all over her face.
“We just have to hope for the best.” Rena nodded to the nurse who she specially assigned to watch her, and she nodded back, acknowledging that she understood the assignment. “Now take me to meet these people,” she said to Gina.
He was the most handsome man Rena had ever seen, and she really felt it wasn’t legal for one person to look so good. His dark hark lay scattered on his head. His well aligned jaw and face felt so unreal. His white collar shirt did little to cover up his toned muscles. As his onyx eyes met hers, she immediately had butterflies. What is wrong with me, she thought? She is a doctor and this is a professional institute, not a love match TV show.
“Hello,” she smiled, “I hear you are related to one of my patients.”
“Gems. Her name is Gems,” he replied, and heavens she felt something between her legs.
“Ohh good. Gems,”she gently pulled off her gloves, “Gina, write that down.”
“I want to know how and where she is right now, Doctor.”
“Do your men know her personal information?” She acknowledged the two men who were behind him.
“They know all a hospital requires to know.” He narrowed his gaze.
“Good then, they stay with Gina. You come with me.”
“So tell me, did your sister have a personal nurse for her pregnancy?” she asked as they walked through the hallway to Gems ward.
“You must be mistaken. My sister is definitely not pregnant,”he snarled at her.
“She is…I mean was. Because I got the baby out of her, it turns out her placenta was at the back of her uterus.
“You have the wrong Gems then.”
“Ohh really?” she pushed open the door to ward eleven. “Come. See for yourself.”
Gems was already awake, but she was still wearing an oxygen mask.
“Gems!” he rushed to sit beside her on the bed, “Gemmy?” He cradled her head and lifted it up to his lap.“Gemmy, I’m here. Okay?”
Rena felt she was intruding on a private moment. But she couldn’t help but marvel at how love made this man bend and cower right in front of her. They whispered many incoherent things to each other, and she couldn’t be more amazed at how her heart rate was improving greatly. If he hadn’t mentioned she was his sister, Rena would have believed they were couples that were deeply in love.
“Show me to the child,” he said to her, but kept his gaze on Gems. Rena guessed she had told him they had gotten the baby out of her.
“I want to see the baby too,” Gems whined to Rena. “I didn’t know I was pregnant.”
Rena’s gaze narrowed, “wait, you mean there were no signs?”
Gems shook her head, “nothing. I didn’t know until I listened to your conversation.”
“It’s a girl,” Rena swallowed. “She is in critical condition.”
“Show me to her,” he got up from beside the bed. Gems managed to sit up, but Rena knew he wouldn't let her come.
“She’s in the incubator,” she turned on her heel, “Follow me.”
“Stay.” She heard him say to Gems. “Let’s go.”
He stared at the infant through the glass, and she couldn’t tell what he was feeling. He is very hard to read.
“Will she be okay?”
“I just hope for the best. She is a fighter and very strong. She bore with the heat and struggled to survive. I doubt she will give up now.” Rena replied bubbly.
“She won’t. She is a Zinher,” he looked at her." We don’t give up.”
“Then she would be just fine,” she smiled, but he just folded his arms, observing her.
“Doctor…?”
“Doctor Rena,” She smiled once more, “and you?”
“Call me Secan.” He growled.
“Good. Secan.”
“When would Gems be discharged?”
“Well, she still needs a bit of oxygen and medical care and to be around her baby too.”
‘I want her discharged today along with the baby. I would set up a whole hospital in my home just for them, if I have to.”
“I don’t think you are thinking straight, Sir.”
“I would set everything up in two days. An incubator and all you will need. I just need you to make sure my niece lives.”
“Do you know how much that would cost?” she opened her mouth wide.
“Darling, I have more money than this country put together,” he smirked, “two days, and then I will temporarily employ you for as long as it takes to get them to full health.”
She narrowed her gaze at him, getting offended now.
“Even if you do manage to set it all up, I won’t spend my days working for you,” she brushed the bridge of her nose. “I work for the government and I will not leave the majority of people to help you. As much as I really want to help this little angel,” she pointed to the baby, “I can’t leave my job, I am sorry.”
“A million dollars.”
What? That’s huge. He is bluffing.
“I am not bluffing,” he added, and she knew she had said it out loud.
“No, don’t…”
“Five million then?”
“I am so sorry.”
“Ten?”
“Everything is not about money, Sir.”
“But with that money you won’t have to work ever again.”
“I really do appreciate all this, and I am moved by the fact you want your sister to be fine. But please get another doctor.”
“I want you,” he said possessively. Did he? Or it’s just in her head.
“No Sir, I have other patients to attend to. I have to go.” She began walking away.
“I will be seeing you soon, Doctor Rena.” She heard him chuckle behind her, and she was afraid she had just started a dangerous game.
