Chapter 4

Secan’s POV She is divine. So beautiful he couldn’t even comprehend. Her dark red waves bounced as she walked away and he couldn’t help but stare. Her hips swayed in her scrubs and her bunny slippers just added the right touch. He looked at his wristwatch, and it was already past ten. He had to go back and give his Father a status report. He stopped at Gem’s ward and gave her a report on how pretty his niece was. She had just begun to wrap her mind around the fact that she was a mother, but the question left hanging in the air could not be ignored. “Who is the father?” he asked, keeping his voice icy. “Well?” “Don’t tell me you have been sleeping around, and you don’t know,” his eyes darkened. “I haven’t been sleeping around.” She blurted out a lazy attempt to defend herself. “I know the father.” “Who then?” She took his hands in hers. “Just promise me you won’t take his head.” “You know I can’t promise that, Sweetheart.” “You have to!” she squeezed his hands tighter. “You like this one?” he smirked. “I might even say I love him.” “Spit it.” “Promise me first.” “Fine, I promise.” He rushed up the steps in fury and curses. Searching, he found Ricardo sitting with his dad in the living room. They were helping themselves to bottles of alcohol. “Ahhhh! Secan!” his father called, but he was too focused on getting to Ricardo to acknowledge him. “What the hell man?” Ricardo yelled as soon as Secan landed a blow to his face. “Ayy Ayy Calm down Secan,” his Father raised his voice. But Secan only acknowledged him when he had landed three extra punches to Ricardo’s face. “Ayy Secan, he is like your brother!” “What the hell bro?” Ricardo yelled. “Bro?” Secan spitted, “if I am your brother, doesn’t that make Gems your Sister?” Ricardo’s eyes widened with realization. “I …” he tried to defend himself. “Please, explain what is going on?” his Father yelled. “Ricardo here has been putting his d**k into Gem’s for Heaven knows how long!” “Ayy ayy! What Ricardo?” His Father was visibly stunned. “I got to the hospital and Gems was pregnant.” “Ayyy! What?” “She was already seven months gone, and her placenta was at the back of her uterus.” “Did she know?” His father asked and Secan shook his head. “The baby?” Ricardo asked. “She is in a critical condition. In an incubator.” “Doctor?” his father smiled. “Rena?” Secan replied, confused. “Ayy she is a witty one. The only one to carry out an operation without signed papers,” he smiled. “How do you know her?” “I knew her father, and he asked me to protect her too before he died. Miss him. He was a darn good man.” “How have you been doing that and how did I not know about this?” Secan asked, more disappointed than angry. “Ayy I planted spies in her medical academy a long time ago and they followed her to the hospital,” he smiled, “don’t go looking like that,” he chuckled. “It was a long time ago and it was best I didn’t bother you.” “Ayy father, not cool.” Secan narrowed his gaze. “So, yeah. What are we to do with you, Ricardo?” Secan’s father looked at Ricardo. “I wanted to slit his throat on finding out,” Secan remarked and Ricardo gulped. “But Gems loves him so.” “And we both know that Ricardo has feigned abstinence for a while now. That means he is loyal, no need to take his head.” “Yeah he was busy, ….” Secan started. “Putting my d**k inside Gems!” Ricardo yelled. “Papa, I love Gems. Okay? And I want to be with her, no matter what.” “How old is Gems’ again?” Secan’s father asked no one in particular. “Nineteen?” Secan replied. “Ahh yes …best you two get married then.” Secan’s father lit a cigar. “Don’t want my granddaughter living illegitimately,” he added. “That would be so cool papa. I can’t wait to tell Gems.” Ricardo's face lit up. “First, think about her getting better, then think about your baby, before any kind of wedding.” Secan gave him a disgusting look. “I need my granddaughter here,” his father puffed out from the cigar. “I have begun to arrange for that. I also tried speaking to Rena about working here but she seemed uninterested,” Secan folded his arms. “That little missy is not going to leave her job,” Secan’s father raised his voice. “I figured that much. She saved Gem’s life and at this point I don’t trust anyone else,” Secan was bored. “How much ya offer?” Ricardo asked. “Ten million.” “She refused?” “Didn’t even think about it,” he replied with irritation, and his father threw his head back in laughter, almost choking on smoke. “Careful, Papa,” Ricardo remarked, and Secan rolled his eyes. “That girl is really stubborn you ain’t seen. One time when she was sixteen and her school didn’t let her serve food because they thought that her big wavy red hair was going to get into all the food. She put hair falling oil in all the hair products of them teachers.” Their father laughed some more. Ya’ll needed to see them photos. “I’ll pass.” Ricardo rolled his eyes. Ricardo and Secan were both similar, but different. They both knew one thousand and one ways to kill a man, but Secan preferred knives while Ricardo liked his guns. Secan likes to play with his prey before killing them, but Ricardo just pulls the trigger. He had blonde hair and Secan had black hair. Let’s just say he was less miserable than Secan was. He hadn’t watched some thugs torture and r**e his mother over and over, after all. “If you want to know how to get the little red-haired to agree, come closer.” “No one else is here, Papa.” Ricardo chuckled and Secan’s father rolled his eyes. “You want to know or not?” he asked and Secan quickly sat opposite him, with Ricardo sitting beside him. “You are going to need a nice old influential fella on your list.” “Anyone in mind?” Ricardo asked Secan. “There is one,” Secan smiled, “Nitro Adge.”
