Rena ‘s POV
“He was rushed into the hospital, having a gaseous and painful abdomen.” Reynolds reported the status of the next patient she was to attend to.
“His name?” Rena asked as she opened the door to the VIP ward he was kept in. Reynolds did not need to reply because she knew who her patient for today was, it was the Senator of Little Cliff, “Nitro Adge”.
“Ahh a doctor finally,” a blonde lady remarked. His new play thing, she guessed.
“Hi, I am Doctor Rena.” She smiled and then examined him.
“We would have gone to a better hospital in the country if only he wasn’t so critical.”
The word “why” was on Rena’s lips, but she refrained from saying it. The blonde’s sugar daddy after all, was the one in charge of handing out finance to this hospital. She refrained from saying any of those because, although Nitro’s eyes were sealed shut, and he was sweating profusely, he could hear everything she was saying.
“I’m going to ask you to leave now and we will take it from here, she spoke to the blonde.
“Fine. Take care of my man,”she left the room, making animal noises.
She called for Reynolds but didn’t hear him reply. The Senator was in pain, and she had to administer a painkiller quickly. She was about to leave the ward when she sighted an already prepared tray of injections and painkillers. She picked the best one for abdominal pain and injected it into the Senator. Soon, she began scanning his huge abdomen, wondering where all the nurses went.
Within five minutes of observation, she heard the heart rate machine beep loudly, indicating he was in a critical situation. Within thirty seconds, it stopped beeping, and she didn’t want to think about what was so vivid.
She tried hand compression but to no avail. She tried mouth-to-mouth but to no avail.
Then she checked the bottle she took the liquid she had injected into him from and broke down in tears after sniffing the contents.
The bottle indicated painkillers but she was very familiar with the smell of that poison. She was doomed and was going to jail. Her career had ended before it began. There was no escape; she had killed a patient out of carelessness and not just any patient, but a Senator. She was doomed. Suddenly, the door opened, and she jumped. Realization set in as her doom loomed.
“Hi Doctor, we meet again.” Secan smirked at her.
“What…what are you doing here?” she asked him, but it didn’t matter as she was going to jail.
“I was looking for you. I wanted to know the status of my niece,” he narrowed his gaze. “I saw Reynolds in the halls and he said you were here.”
“Reynolds ….Yes Reynolds, I need to see Reynolds.”
“Why are you shaking, Doctor?”
“I am shaking?” She laughed.
He squatted near her “sweating too,” he smirked. “If you weren’t a doctor, I would have thought you were getting dirty with that dude over there.”
“You mean having s*x?” she swallowed.
“Yes I mean having s*x,” he chuckled.
“I wish, then I wouldn’t have to go to jail then,” she smiled in pain.
“What do you mean you are going to jail?”
“I …I gave him poison instead of painkillers…he is dead.”
Secan got up gently and went to observe the body. She could almost see a smile crawl to his lips.
“Tsk tsk tsk you are in big trouble Missy.” Secan said so calmly that she started to cry.
“Ohh don’t remind me,” she said between sobs.
“You are going to jail, because you just killed a freaking Senator. No, the Senator of Little Cliff. This could mean death.
This could mean life imprisonment.”
He was scaring her, and she didn’t like to be scared.
“Please, stop!” she yelled, scratching herself in fear.
“But that is the truth princess,” he squatted beside her while she cried her eyes out. “Or”
“Or what?” she sniffed.
“Or you could accept my offer and I will help you clean up this mess.”
“What offer?”
“The one you get to stay at my house and take care of my niece till she’s better?”
“How are you going to make it look like it’s not me.”
“I’m going to clean it up. Just trust me.”
She swallowed, contemplating her options. Dang, she had no option.
“Hurry, someone could…”
“I accept!” she blurted, and he arched his brows, “I accept. Just get me out of here.”
“Okay, follow me,” he got up and went out the door. She scrambled up and followed him.
Heavens may damn her but she sure as hell didn’t want to go to jail. She didn't believe she was running away after killing someone.
They got to the roof of the hospital where a chopper was waiting.
He got in and stretched his hand for her. She contemplated one last time and then thought of her Nonna and Cara. They wouldn't survive if they knew she killed the Senator and was hanged.
She took his hand and he pulled her in.
“Do you always move with a Chopper?” she yelled, above the noise.
“Not always. I guess the heavens knew what was coming and decided to send me with a chopper,”he laughed and she smiled painfully.
She looked out the window and sat in silence through the rest of the journey, her mind racing.
The life of being a doctor was coming to an end all because of a stupid mistake. The career she studied so hard for was coming to an end. She hated herself more than anything at that moment. She closed her eyes and cried in silence.
For all she knows this man could be her savior and also her doom. As she sat backing him, she could not help but feel his eyes on her back.
Those onyx eyes of his staring into her soul. She closed her eyes tight and imagined her father’s face, it always gave her peace.
Although she felt better, she couldn’t help but whisper to herself. “What the hell have you done now, Rena?”
Little did she know, she had been framed.
