episode 3... sages perspective

337 Words
I didn’t come here to change anyone’s world.I just wanted quiet, soil under my nails, and maybe a few people who’d smile when they saw me. Pelican Town was supposed to be simple. Not easy—never easy—but simple in the way the stars are. They don’t ask for attention. They just shine. That’s what I wanted to be here: just someone who grows things and lets people be. But it turns out, people notice you when you stop trying to be noticed. They watch, they whisper, and sometimes, they glare. I saw Hailey watching me today—from her porch, arms folded, like I’d stolen her favorite lipstick or something.I just waved. She didn’t wave back.I didn’t expect her to. She’s got that queen bee aura, the kind that doesn’t buzz unless she has to.But I’m not trying to swat her crown. Leah, though…Leah’s different. There’s something quiet about her that matches my quiet, like we both hear the same silence in the trees. I didn’t plan to remember her name after one meeting. But I did. Maybe because she didn’t look at me like I was a tourist with a shovel. She looked at me like she was waiting for something. I don’t know what.I’m not sure she does either. I gave her wild onions because they reminded me of her.Not in a “you smell like onions” way, obviously. But because they grow alone, sharp and honest, kind of like she seems. They don’t ask to be picked. They’re just… there. And sometimes, that’s enough. I think I made her blush that day.Or maybe I embarrassed myself. Either way, she kept them.I saw them on her windowsill when I passed by. That’s the thing—this town isn’t used to someone new not playing by their rules. But I don’t know the rules. And honestly, I don’t care to learn them.I’m not here to climb some weird small-town popularity ladder. If Hailey wants to roll her eyes, fine.I probably would too, if I were her. Pretty, polished, and used.
