Daisy was amazed the both of the vehicles they had brought to the city, were stuffed full of the shopping she and Megan had done. She really hoped Eric didn't mind her spending money the way she had, because without the sword she had spent $50,000 on clothes, makeup and lingerie.
"Quit worrying, I assure you he won't be mad." Megan said without looking at her.
"I fully intend to blame you." Daisy said teasing her as they drove through the forest back to the Gray Dawn Pack making Megan gasp.
"Innocent little old me?" she asked in a mock offended tone making both of them laugh as she made the turn off the highway. As soon as she did they saw smoke from the base of the road, as well as the flashing lights of Emergency Services. "What is that?"
Daisy started laughing as she realized which of the buildings was on fire, and who was likely reaponsible. "Clarissa burnt it down inside of a day." she managed to say before she broke into uncontrolled laughter as Megan got closer and started laughing herself as she pulled up to a stop. Sure enough at the rear of the ambulance was Clarissa sporting scorched hair and burns down her arms. "Better call the local diners and ensure we can feed all of them." she said as Megan sighed.
"Your not going to help?" she asked as Daisy opened her door.
"I will make a call, as I have a feeling I know what the answer is." she replied pulling out her phone as she looked at Clarissa being strapped to the stretcher and being loaded into the ambulance.
"Dante's." the man on the phone said.
"How much for an emergency buffet delivered to Gray Dawn in 4 hours?" she asked the man.
"How many?" the man asked.
"Better make it 4,000. It won't matter if you outsource as well." she said as the man laughed.
"This is a joke right?" he asked her as she chuckled as well.
"Not at all." Daisy replied as Megan shook her head from the first call she had made using her phones internet to call the local diners.
"Betty's can supply enough for maybe 250."
"I am not your only call?" he asked her.
"Tell them we will take what we can get, we just need the food." Daisy said to Megan intentionally so the man she was speaking with could hear. "No, and if your answer is no, I will call every competitor you have. The Lycan King can leave a really good review, or one that says you refused to help tha Wolf Kingdom in their time of need to feed 3,000 Alphas, Lunas, and Gammas." she said knowing that threat alone would make him think twice.
"Can I call you back in a few minutes?" he asked her before she gave him the number. "Name?"
"Daisy." she replied.
"It will only be a few minutes." he said as Daniel walked over to her laughing before the phone went dead. "Not even a day?" she said making him laugh.
"There were even 5 of them." he replied as he looked at everything. "Derrik doesn't even know yet because they are in the defense meeting."
They stood there watching the firefighters try and put the fire out before the entire building was lost. Her phone ringing caught her attention as she answered.
"This is Preston Porter with Dante's, is this Daisy?" he asked politely and was not the same man she had spoken with.
"It is." she said as she watched.
"I think there was a misunderstanding about your order we would like to confirm. Can I verify the number of guests?" he asked her.
"Daniel, how many Alphas, Lunas and Gammas are here?" Daisy asked.
"3,000." he answered quickly.
"No, if you have a buffet for 4,000 there is no misunderstanding." she said into the phone.
"And you want it in 4 hours?" he asked az she looked at her watch that said it was now 3 pm.
"We could stretch it to 6 if it would make the order easier." she replied knowing 9 pm would be a later dinner than they were used too.
"We could make it in 6 hours, but the cost will be higher than normal." he said as she heard him putting numbers into a calculator.
"Price is not an issue." she said into the phone as she saw the flames blow out the front windows of the building before they began licking the side of the building.
"$22,000." he said as she pulled out her card.
"Ready?" she asked.
"For what?" he asked.
"Payment." she said as the man choked.
"Your not joking?" he asked worried.
"Nope, there has been a fire in the Kitchens of the Gray Dawn Pack. We have 3,000 Alphas, Lunas and Gammas here, and absolutely no way to prepare dinner for them. As I told the first man, we do not care if you outsource it to other establishments. We only care that the food is delivered." she replied getting angry.
The man did some numbers, and knew it would just barely be possible with all of his restaurants. "We will see you before 9 PM. We will collect payment than." he replied before she hung up.
"Where are they?" she asked Daniel as he shook his head and began leading the way.
"When did you get so brave?" he asked her as they walked.
"The girl you knew as the Orphan was never who I truly was. She was who I portrayed in order to survive, but thanks for the kindness you showed me during that time. You were one of only a few." she said as they walked into the conference building and to a set of double doors.
He turned and looked at her, with a crooked smile he was famous for. "Delta Daniel, nice to meet the real you." he said extending his hand making her laugh and shake her head as she took it and shook it. "It was my pleasure to show you the smallest measure of kindness while you were with our Pack. Perhaps in the future we will come to know eachother again." he said warmly.
Daisy smiled as she genuinely liked that idea. "Perhaps not here, but I think I would like that Daniel. Any advice?" she asked him.
"Turn around and wait for them to finish." he said knowing she would not be welcomed by the Wolves.
"Not a chance." she said as she grabbed the handle.
"Good luck." he said before dashing away before she opened the door, entered and closed it while one of the Alphas was speaking about the Rogue Orphans. So far no one was paying attention to her as she looked and saw Derrik and Erik sitting next to each other uncomfortably. She hated they were on the stage, sitting behind the speaker, but knew that it was unavoidable now.
"- furthermore, who in any other Pack has the right to tell us how we should treat the children of those who would seek to destroy us?" he demanded as some of the Alphas agreed with him as she noticed the second person in the stage as a debate.
"You are correct, we cannot tell you how you should deal with Rogues. The children however do not automatically inherit that when they change as has been shown by extensive evidence. If given the same chance as any fallen warriors children, they can be and are effective members of many Packs." the other said. "As such, they should not be treated as slaves, and forced to work all hours of the day and night when they are not at the required schools. There are also rumors of Packs who fail to report the Rogue Orphans in their Pack, and prevent them from going to school at all. Treatment so severe, that most of them would rather be Rogue than join any Pack believing they are all the same." he said as Daisy shook her head and had to bite back a growl from her beast as the Alphas began to notice her walking to the stage. Eric's eyes widened a bit as he saw her as well as the other Alpha began to speak.
"Even if true, they should be forced to earn their place in a Pack, and no Rogue Child should have a complaint as they are treated better than they otherwise would have been." he said bitterly.
"There is evidence-" the other began as Eric cleared his throat making them stop.
"Gentlemen, if you value your lives, I suggest we pause the conversation for the moment." Eric said as they saw her and Derrik's eyes went wide. "How may we assist you?" he asked her amused at her appearance.
"Ignoring the debate I heard upon my entry, I must inform you all that dinner will be delayed until 9 pm. Alpha Derrik, your new kitchen staff has caused a fire in the kitchen, and Emergency Services are currently working on containing the blaze." she said as a gasp went through the crowd. "As far as the Orphans are concerned Alpha whoever you are of Pack whatever," she said making Eric put his face in his mouth. "I assure you I will be personally investigating these reports as soon as I join the Royal Family and become Luna Queen. Any Pack I find mistreating the Orphans of Rogues in any way outside of even the smallest Law will face consequences that will be determined based on what you have done to them. If you want them to perform labor and earn their place, pay them like you would any Wolf. They are not yours to treat however you wish as you are only temporary Guardians by default. If you are not prepared to honor your responsibility to the future, you can send them to the Royal Orphanage where they will be taken care of properly." she said as the Alphas in the room began grumbling.
"What would you know of it?" the Alpha she had insulted asked her.
She narrowed her eyes at him, and he knew she was trying hard to restrain her beast. "Considering I was an Orphan of this very Pack until very recently as Alpha Derrik can confirm, I am intimately familiar with what can happen to the Orphans. I will not allow my experience to be repeated by any Pack."
"Gentlemen, the future Queen has spoken, and I must agree with her. The question is no longer if we will allow the Rogue Orphans to be used for labor, but how they must be compensated and treated." King Eric said nodding to her. "Aloha Derrik, it seems you are needed to take care of issues in your Pack."
The grumbling of the Alphas was palpable as Daisybturned around, when one of the Alohas spoke. "Just because she was an Orphan, does not mean she is an expert in how theybare treated." the Alpha who had been arguing for whatever treatment he wanted said as she stopped and turned.
"What is your name Alpha?" she asked seething as the ones closest to her could feel her Aura. As much as Derrik wanted to go see what was happening, he knew he didn't want to miss this. He had sworn for years he could see the simmering anger in her.
"Alpha Xavier of the Blood River Pack." he said.
"Excellent, I will be at your Pack within the week for your review. We shall see how the Orphans in your Pack are treated. For each violation you will receive 20 lashes by a design of my choosing." she said before she turned and walked back out.
Eric watched her go with pride, knowing that she had just set their next destination.
"Majesty, she cannot do that." Xavier said with his mouth agape as the door slammed shut behind her.
Eric nodded as he considered it. "You are absolutely correct, the legal punishment is 50 lashes per violation of the Child Protection Laws. She will be given free reign to conduct whatever investigations she deems is warranted." he replied as more of the Alphas gasped. "As far as using them as labor, I happen to agree with her. The number of reports in my office about this subject would likely surprise most of you here, and as soon as we return to the Lycan Pack they will all be given to her."
The clamoring as they began to argue against this was overshadowed by the growl he let out.
"Gentlemen, the law is already clear about what Orphans may be allowed to do, and how they must be educated. Each Pack child enjoys additional protections, and I will give you a choice. Either all you treat the Rogue Orphans the same as you would Pack Orphans, or they will be removed from your care entirely. They will no longer be seperate classes, Orphans are Orphans." he said as he stood up. "You have until dinner to decide." he finished before walking out with Alpha Derrik.
Derrik stopped him outside the door, and he nearly lost his temper. "Since I know she will likely never give me-"
"Stop." Eric growled as he turned to look at Derrik. "As far as she is concerned, this should be an eye opening experience for you. I have no clue yet the extent of what you did, but her mercy is the only reason you live. What I do is not for you, but for her. If she thinks your punishment enough, I will not argue with her. If however I receive even a single report about you mistreating an Orphan again, you need not worry about her investigating. I will simply kill you. Am I understood Alpha?" he demanded coldly looking at the man.
"Yes Lycan King." Derrik said before the man disappeared faster than he could turn and follow.
